Resort refillable mug vs. Park mugs

If I am staying at Sports and buy a refillable mug.. can I use that mug at Pop, Music, Movies? How can they tell the difference? Has anyone used their resort mugs at other resorts?

This question comes up all the time, but it's worth repeating the answer every few months as the policy has changed over the years.

Copied from another thread:

The current official policy is that refillable mugs can only be used at the resort where they were purchased for the duration of the stay in which they were purchased. The new mugs have this policy printed on them, and the policy is also clearly posted in many of the resorts' food courts. Mugs purchased on previous stays can no longer be re-used on a later trip.

Mugs from one resort cannot be used at another resort's food court. The one exception is that an All Star mug can be used at any of the three All Star Resorts' food courts.

Mugs purchased at the theme parks have never been refillable at any venue inside or outside of the parks.

Does this policy still apply? I would only go to the all star resorts to eat? If so, is Pop Century included in this?

From Mouse Planet.com

Disney has added a new UPC bar coding system to the self-serve refill stations that, for the first time, controls a previously unenforced policy. Although the refillable mug program has always been advertised as available during an actual length of stay that allows guests to refill their mugs during their trip, in reality, guests often brought their mugs back on subsequent trips to refill them free of charge. With the UPC code tied to a guest's hotel reservation, this new system closes this loophole altogether. That is, once your stay has ended, your mug is no longer refillable. Those mugs you bought on previous visits won't work next time you vacation at WDW.\

Is this policy in effect?

Don't think anyone else has mentioned this. The last time I visited BB and TL you could buy the mugs for approx $12. Then if you wanted to use them again on another day you can buy another barcode to go on the mug to use again at a slightly cheaper price than buying a brand new mug.

Yes
NO. The mug is for use at the resort you're staying at for the length of your vacation.

You can't use it at another resort.
You can't bring back mugs from previous trips.

I went in 2006 and bought our family of 4 the mugs (we stayed at pop century). They can tell because the resorts name is on the mug and they all look different. (in 2006 anyway , no barcode system then).I have to say I take offense to those who cheated the system and brought mugs from previous visits back to resorts for free refills. Its 12 bucks for goodness sakes.People cheating the system just raises the prices for those of us willing to pay for our mugs and drinks according to the rules. Frankly its not worth the trouble of repacking all the mugs and stealing the drinks without getting caught. Just don't see the point! Its your vacation splurge the $12 PLEASE.............:brick:

Anyway, its so worth the money! WE have a family of 4. Hubby , I , 2 children. We would wake up in the morning , fill our mugs on the way to the busstop (the put them in my backpack i carried through the park til returning to the resort)and drink a coffee or hot chocolate then. Then in the evening we would refill our mugs on the way to the room. Now we had a room very close to the refill station otherwise i don't know if I would have been so vigilant about using free refills instead of buying.Think about this if you have a family of 4 and buy 4 mugs($48bucks) have one drink /coffee/juice/slushy/hotchocolate/soda in the morning and 1 at night at an cost of 2 bucks per drink (and some of those drinks are way more then 2 bucks) it would cost you $112 dollars without tax. IF you buy the mugs you get the same amount plus more drink if you like and your schedule allows it for $48 bucks!Take that to the bank lol.My husband would stand in the resturant and drink a whole soda then refill and take to the room so he got an average of 4 drinks per day by himself! We also would go back to the room in the mid afternoon hours for a break and to get ready for dinner(another refill LOL)(it was warm then and we spent time on water attractions and needed to change before dinner)We stayed for 10 days and saved at least $112 bucks doing this . Do the math , see if its worth it for your family and the kids love having these keep sake mugs after its all said and one. I have owned mine since April of 2006 and they are still in great condition after being used frequently. Good luck on your trip!
