Resort planning for us and mom-in-law

Hi all!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!
I was thinking about surprising mom-in-law next year with a Walt Disney World vacation trip during the Christmas season.
Can anyone suggest a reasonable resort that would be good for a couple plus 1, preferably one that has seperate rooms? :)

Thank you!
Andrew

I am not sure of what kind of room you are looking for , value, moderate or deluxe, but last year we stayed at POP, with another family, and got adjoining rooms. There was a door that locked between the two rooms. Each room having its own bathroom of course. Values are reasonable, but price will depend on the season.

Well, for that time of year I would suggest a moderate if you want truly separate rooms. And depending on how separate you want, POFQ may be your best bet. The others could end up with a long walk/bus ride between the two rooms if you ever want to visit.

You could look into renting DVC points and doing a 2 bedroom unit, but that may be a little close spacewise. Thats a personal call though. I think there is enough space, as each bedroom can close off and has their own bathroom and tv, but unless you end up renting points they can be pretty pricey.

There are a couple of options - two adjoining rooms, which you can request when booking the rooms; they usually say they won't guarantee it but they do try their best. Time of year and occupancy levels can impact this. We have done this at Pop and had no problems getting the adjoining room for our son. There are also the family suites at both All Star Music and the Art of Animation resort. At the All Star Music there is a living room area with several pull-out beds, a Queen bedroom, a small kitchenette area and two bathrooms with privacy curtains around the sink area and separate toilet/shower area. We have stayed in the family suites with my DH, DS, DB and I most comfortably. However, a great deal of this depends on how comfortable you are with your in-law. If you are on the "outdoorsy" side there are the cabins at Fort Wilderness that have bedroom, one bath, full kitchen and livingroom with foldout beds that are designed to sleep 6 -7 people. Remember, she may need her space too. We took my MIL with us on one trip. She stayed in an adjoining room with our son. I would not do it again, but that's my MIL. Depending on age and if they have ever been to WDW, many older people find the sheer size and scope of the parks and resorts intimidating and may need some private time to "re-group". Oh, heck, there are times that I need that quiet regroup time while at WDW :). You can always check out the resorts at allears.net under accommodations to get a feel of the resorts. Happy trip

Whatever you decide, the rooms will probably be significantly less expensive if you can manage to go any time beyond "Christmas week." If you wanted to surprise her with a trip in early December, or sometime in January, you'll save a good chunk of cash AND have much lighter crowds. Don't know if your schedule will allow it, but if you can, do it.

Thank you all for your advice! We're looking to go late Nov or early Dec next year.
I'm a little worried about going outside our comfort zone of Port Orleans Riverside but have to do what the finances say. I like the Art of Imagination views so far and looks like they have a pullout couch. Please keep the ideas coming.. Happy New Year!
