is there parking fees to visit the resorts along the monorail for dining or roaming the lobbys. we wanted to dine and then visit several resorts to view their xmas decorations. we also have tckts for mickey's christ. party.
could we park at a resort, dine, hop on monorail to several resorts, hop on monorail to magic kingdom, and then return by monorail to our car and not have to pay for parking? the monorail seems so much easier then driving all over wdw.

Welcome aboard

As long as you have ADRs at the Resort you're parking at then you'll be ok for a while. I wouldn't expect to find that you can park there all day !!!

There are no parking fees unless you choose to valet park. Anyone is free to visit the hotels and dine, shop or just check things out. You may or may not be given a time limit parking pass as the monorail hotels are popular.
While technically you are not supposed to park at a hotel and then go to a park (unless you are staying there) many people choose to do so. WDW has been know, in the past, to tow vehicles away (especially during busy times of the year).

When you pull up to the guard booth at most hotels, just tell them you are there to eat, etc. They check your ID and thats pretty much it.

I've traveling to all the different hotels to eat as well as check out the Xmas decorations for years now. Never had a problem. In fact, I use to just park at Ft. Wilderness (which is free) and then take the boat to MK, back in the day. I have no doubt you could the same at the other hotels and bypass having to pay for parking to a park. The only downside is that you have to switch to Disney transportation (except for the Contemp because you can just walk to MK).

Oh and of course, Walt will come to haunt you from behind the grave for stealing from Disney. :ROFLOL:

I am going to Boma at AKL.. do they give a time limit parking pass? I really want to spend a lot of time at AKL and taking in the sights

You shouldn't have to worry. We drove to AKL for dinner at Boma and spent hours there. It's more about the monorail hotels that people use to escape paying parking fees at the parks.

Boma was great, by the way. My DH & kids are picky (well maybe that isn't the best word...unadventurous?) when it comes to foods, but we all had a great time and they want to go back. :slurp:

Thanks. Do you have any suggestions about what to see at AKL?

I think everyone will agree that you need to explore the whole resort! At the back you can watch the small savannah, there are flamingos by the pool and the lobby is a site to behold - take a seat near the fireplace or watch the sunset through the massive glass windows.

It's great fun!

I have to agree! Just wander around the resort. We arrived early, looked around then had a before dinner drink. After dinner we wandered around some more.

I've eaten at Boma and Ohana (at Polynesian), and both times I was given a paper at the guard booth that indicated only 3 hours of parking was permitted.

I don't know if they enforce it, but that paper was specifically marked.

And I've wondered why they do THAT. What are looking for?

It's PR security.

So long as you don't pull up to the Beach Club and say 'we're here to park and go to EPCOT' or drive to the Contemporary Christmas week (unless you valet in which they'll always let you park there), you'll be just fine.

You can visit, dine, and shop at any/every Disney resort ... and if you leave your car there to hop to another resort and/or park you will be fine.

I have never heard one case of anyone ever being towed from a Disney lot ... EVER. Even if you have a three hour pass and stay for eight.

Disney is just, and rightfully so, trying to discourage folks from using the resort lots to go to the parks as since the Internet Era it has become a problem at busy periods.

Oh, I've heard of it, just don't know that it actually happened.

Like you said maybe it's just park of Disney's discouragement package.

I have seen tow trucks hooking up a car at the Poly, but I didn't stop to ask why...maybe it broke down or just maybe...:lookaroun

It's been a problem much longer than that. I remember being turned away at the Poly in the mid '80's.

Don't think the resorts are fond of 'oursiders' coming in and parking. We made an wrong turn error and come up to the gate at one and they made good and sure we turned right on around and left!!! So even if we wanted to go 'look' we couldn't of.:(

You can look around any hotel you want to. You just tell them you are checking it out, maybe grab a bite to eat and shop. They may as for your resort ID, or maybe not.
