Resort options?

My family is headed to WDW in late Sept/early Oct. We have been multiple times and stay at a different resort each time. PO Riverside in 2007 (liked it ok), PO French Quarter in 2009 (really liked it), and Caribbean Beach in 2011 (not a fan). We are currently in our planning phase and are heavily considering FQ again but with my kids (7 and 4) should I be looking at one of the value resorts? Also what are the pros and cons of value vs moderate??? Thanks for your help!

The values, especially POP and AoA tend to have better transportation because of a single pick up point. The moderates, save for POFQ, have multiple stops around the resort. This can mean a shorter walk to the bus stop at the moderates, but a bit longer of a trip.

I have stayed at several moderates as well as ASM, and FQ will be our resort of choice going forward. The fact that it is one stop, small and relatively quiet really sold us.

Personally, I love Pop Century. I am sure the same would go for AoA but the Mermaid rooms are at the farthest point. I love the AS resorts, but HATE the buses there. I love CSR for moderates. The buses are very close to all rooms, very efficient, and the resort is gorgeous. I am staying at PORS simply because of the discount we got for a Royal Princess room. It was only $150 more for the 8 nights vs Pop Century. I stayed at this resort when it was Dixie Landings.

If you are looking to try a new resort, try CSR. The kids will love the pool area.

The mods do have closer pick-ups in general. We were in the Mermaid Rms at AoA all the way at the back within walking distance to POP, and the walk to the bus was very long. If you are in a suite, they are much closer.
PORS is soooo much nicer since the room refurbs. We felt the same back in 09, but in 12, we loved it.

Haven't stayed at POFQ, but have at PORS, food options are much better as Boatwrights is underappreciated restaurant, also, they have a horse drawn carriage ride you can take, not exactly cheap, but an extra frill, and I've found that not only do the mods have closer pick ups, but the bus lines are usually shorter as well, nothing like leaving the MK late at night and standing in line for 20 minutes to get on the bus because there are so many people. Also, I love the boat ride from PORS to DTD...its just that added little touch.

Have you tried the Family Suites at All Star Music? The suites are slightly more expensive than a Moderate Resort but you have tons more room and 2 full bathrooms. The Art of Animation has suites too but you will pay more for it. Since we don't us the bus system very often the buses are not a problem for us. We did use the buses at Art of Animation and it seemed better than All Star Music.

Question about PO Riverside since its kinda the topic here. I just booked today for a couple nights in February. I was really wanting the Alligator Bayou area, but I wasnt able to choose it etc while making the reservation online. Should I call now way ahead and request it? Or is that a request you make when you arrive to check in? I havent been able to get through on the phone so far today so thought I would try here.

If there are 5 in your party, you will be assigned to those rooms; if not, you can call and request, but they won't guarantee you will get one.

Why not finish the category and stay at Coronado Springs? ;) (I know the cabins are Mods too, but I don't look at them that way.)

I've stayed in all levels of the Disney Resorts, and the only thing I don't like about the moderates is you still get to your room from the outside like in a Value. If I'm going to pay that much more, I want to come in from a hallway. I know the Mods offer more ammenities, but if you're a commando park tourer, you're not going to use them anyways.

* Values are louder than Mods, both because of construction and inconsiderate people. (And the toilets! LOL)
* Mods have a table service restaurant, Values do not.
* Values are colorful and heavily Disney themed, where the Mods are more subtle with the Disney theme.
* All Stars share busses more often than not, Coronado will have it's own bus. However, the resort is large and will have several stops.

My favorite Value is All Star Music. My favorite Mod is CBR followed by CSR.

The AB area of POR can sleep families of five, so they kinda get dibs. You can put in a request and hopefully they'll honor it if space allows. I would call and have your preference noted on your reservation now because when you do online check in you won't be able to request it then.

I was going to suggest this very thing. Coronado is relaxing and beautiful with a great path to walk for exercise. Google "Buzz's Unofficial Coronado Springs" website and he has a ton of information and pictures.

Pop Century is a great value resort to stay at! It has a great theme, many pools, a large food court, and much more. It is really great for kids! The transportation is very fast to get to Pop Century.

Pop is just the best with kids. The bus stop at the resort don't have a cover as they do at the Mods. At the parks they are a bit farther away, but not much. Pop has its own buses. I do like the allstar's but I go to them off season when its not as crowded. All the value resorts rooms are pretty much the same. Only the theming is different.
