I AM A LITTLE CONFUSED ON THE WHOLE RESORT MUG ISSUE.

1) HOW MUCH ARE THEY?
2) WHAT EXACTLY CAN THEY BE REFILLED WITH?
3) WHERE CAN THEY BE REFILLED?
4) APROX. HOW LARGE OR HOW MANY OUNCES ARE THEY?

ANY INFO WOULD BE GRETLY APPRECIATED!!!:sohappy: :sohappy:

AAAAHHHH, SO YOU CAN ONLY GET IT REFILLED AT THE RESORT ITSELF. I THOUGHT YOU COULD GET IT REFILLED AT THE PARKS AS WELL. WELL I DON'T SPEND ENOUGH TIME AT THE HOTEL FOR THAT TO BENEFIT ME. NOW IF I COULD GET IT REFILLED AT THE PARKS THEN IT WOULD BE WORTH IT.

Resort Mugs

You might not think it's worth it but if you buy more than 4 drinks at the hotel for your stay, then it's worth it. We use it a lot more than you think, my husband goes down for his coffee every morning and has two cups. Then when we get back at night we go get drinks then. It's really worth it!!! Also, we go to the Poly the last few years and we keep bringing them back. So we more than got our money's worth from it!

I got 2 resort mugs about 7 years ago and I bring them back every year :) one for PO and the other for wilderness lodge. Saves about $40 if you get a quick drink the hotel twice a day for a week.. hehe

ALWAYS get a mug. You cannot believe how much you will save.

Morning coffee (tea, hot choc, soda)
Afternoon refreshment when you go back to rest...we usually end up with 2...one to have with our snack and another to take back to the room.
We usually get another when we go back to the room at night...you can get dehydrated very easily...even if you drink in the park.

Since there are 4 of us this saves quite a bit of $$. I once saw a guy drink 6 sodas while he was having lunch.(yes I know...mind my own business!)

Here's more of a thread "slide", than a true DRIFT, so bear with me.....

The mugs are GREAT if you use them!
One problem though - it appears different resorts run their own "version" of the mug program, so don't be disappointed if you can't get everything listed in the above responsesn at all resort food courts.

Example: Wilderness Lodge does not have Hot Chocolate available, while Caribbean Beach did. (WL actually had painted black paint over the words "Hot Chocolate" on their sandwich board outside the snack bar which you could still read through. :hammer: )

New mug purchases may even be bar-coded for use only at THAT resort for THAT stay.

That's why nobody can give exactly correct answers whenever this topic comes up.

It's just another part of the Disney "MAGIC"! -- the part that sells more mugs!!!

We also buy the mugs, the first time we stayed onsite we didnt buy them because we thought we wouldn't use them that much. We wised up by our second trip! now the girls use them on a daily basis at home, great for outside drinks, bee's, mosquitoes etc can't fly into the drinks like w/cans etc.

we basically just used ours for morning and evening drinks and still saved money that way.

I agree that this is a confusing issue. I was under the impression (and I'm sure it was from a CM at a resort) that the mugs are good for life (at that resort)

However, when I got into a discussion about this on another board some time ago, I wrote WDW to find out from them. On two seperate responses (a second one for clarification) I was told that the mug is good ONLY FOR THE CURRENT STAY.

Here is their response:

(the sound you now hear is me digging through my email. Please wait a moment...:) )

Ah - here it is...

Dear Rick,

Thank you for contacting WALT DISNEY WORLD!

Please know that the "Souvenir Mug" program at Disney Resorts allow you to refill beverages (including hot coffee & tea) at your Resort for the length of your current stay.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us.

Please include your full name, E-Mail address, and reservation number if applicable on all correspondence.

Thank you!

So - I'm still confused. I have used my mugs from previous trips without so much as a look from the CMs - but I'm prepared to purchase new ones if I have to. Just sitting by the pool alone and getting refills on iced tea is worth it to me.

Ha.. no one will ever know. We pay enough for stuff down there, so this should be our little free treat. I have been using my mugs for YEARS. No one has said anything to me, EVEN when I brought my Port Orleans mug down 3 weeks ago, and IT STILL SAID DIXIE LANDINGS ON IT. No one said a WORD to me, and the CMs saw my mug and saw me filling up! They didn't care.

I just stayed at the Caribbean Resort over Memorial Day weekend and noticed they had brand new mugs. They had Mickey and Goofy and Donald on it. This was different from the design on the mugs being advertised which leads me to believe they just now changed the design. Anyway, printed right on the mug is the year 2003-2004. Also printed on the mug is "Refillable only at location purchased." ANd, "Free refills until the end of your stay." I asked the Castmember about this and she said she hadn't even noticed it. I did notice that people were still using old Caribbean mugs and even mugs from other resorts and not one castmember was saying anything to them. The castmembers probably don't want to get into any arguments with the guests over this.

I was wondering tho, does anyone know if the mugs have been changed at the other resorts? Will all the refillable mugs be like this soon?

mugs

It's funny, we bought our Polyneisian mugs in the year 2000. Since then, we've been down there two other times. Our mugs say 2000 on it but my kids didn't go down till 2001 so theirs don't have the date. They were still the same mugs from 2000 but ours had a date and their's didn't. We will continue to bring them down and use them until someone stops us, which I doubt will happen. If it does, we more than got our money's worth out of them and I would buy new ones. Until that time, we will continue to use our old ones.

Only once did anyone say anything to me about my mugs that I have had for lets see.......8 years maybe more. A couple years ago I had my All Star Mug filled with Mountain Dew, I use them for more then just refills, and a CM at the Caribbean reminded me I couldn't use it there. I laughed at her, opened it up and said do I get penalized for putting a Pepsi product in it too? The CM about split her gut. She said I am so sorry. I said it's ok I have had these cups for years and noone has ever said anything. I am not a Coke drinker, but my boys will drink anything so we share the cup.

It's usually whatever beverages that are offered at your resort's snack bar. Some have hot choc, some don't. Last time we were at the WL there was hc, but someone said recently that it isn't offered anymore. Maybe only during the winter? My hubby had coffee, I had hot tea and the kids had hc every am. Sodas all around (sometimes iced tea) in the afternoons and pm. NO limit.

...and here's my opinion. Just remember that it's worth what you paid for it.

The value of the mugs is in direct proportion to the distance from your room to the food court/snack bar.

If you are in one of the outer-lying buildings, you may not want another 20 minute round trip just for some Coke. You might find that buying some out of the (much closer) machine is just fine.

Also, if you are in any resort except AKL and WL, you will have to walk outside, possibly in the rain, to refill the mugs. Not a pretty sight.

True - but you can also use them at the pool bar for iced tea, or soft drinks...so that makes it worthwhile too!

I'm pretty sure other Resorts have their snackbars inside, but that is besides the point. We always fill up before and after using the pool, when we go out to watch the floating parade (WL & Poly the last 2 trips). Also we don't always have spare change or singles available for the machines.
