Got one. Funny thing is we're in a dvc room staying on dvc points:

Okay, this annoys me. 2 months ago, I tried to extend my stay 1 day (we were staying at POR, 12/31-1/1) and the cast member helping me on the phone kept saying "Oh, we are completely booked at almost every resort!". I was FINALLY able to extend 1 day to 1-2 but I had to move resorts to POP. Argh....we wanted to stay at a Moderate....

We were annoyed bc a year ago we tried to extend 2 nights at our current rate. They had rooms available but only rack rated. (300/night more.) So we packed up and went to Universal and Royal Pacific. We won lol

We did a last min trip last week, Dec 14-18 and every hotel was available when we booked the week prior, even the discounted rates were available.

Hotels were kinda a ghost town by Disney standards, plenty of empty rooms and empty parking lots. We were a bit shocked so not surprised they are likely down a bit in occupancy this season. Granted we were there before the big holiday rush this week.

Side note, we usually always do our trips during food and wine, boy was it nice this time to walk around world showcase without dodging the 'drinking teams'

We were there Dec 16-19 as well... and availability was pretty good when we booked.. but the reason we were there that week was because just two weeks prior there was NOTHING available. AoA was busy, and the parking lot was plenty full. Parks were not empty.. but not super busy either. More busy then I would have thought one of the last 'quiet' periods on the calendar were supposed to be. I think TP was calling for about a 4-5 average a few months back.. and it ended up being more a 5-7. TL:DR - they were busier than I thought they would be... but still very managable. Saturday tho was another story of course..

Remember, after thanksgiving before xmas *used* to be one of the quietest times of the season... as was late Sept.

December has changed dramatically since the introduction of the Pop Warner football gathering early in the month. That is why the value resorts are filled in first 2 weeks of December. There is really no "down" time in December as there used to be. Just relatively less people in first few weeks as compared to the 2 heavy weeks....but still packed nonetheless.

I'm confused. Where do y'all see that? :hilarious: The post Steve made has the Grand at $475
You said I wouldn't stay at any resort for those prices. The two above said they would stay at GF for then$125 value price which falls under "any of those prices".

The problem with the Swan & Dolphin (and all Starwood hotels) is that they impose stupid fees:
- $25/day fee (mandatory) for access to the spa, weight room, and something else (maybe WiFi)
- $20/day fee for parking (which I guess doesn't matter if you flew in and took a taxi there)

Still, you go in thinking it's going to be $140-180/night and it's closer to $200-250/night w/o the silly hotel taxes and other nonsense (not their fault but it's the state taxing people a premium who can't vote there - a whole different issue).

With all taxes and fees included, it is possible to book the Swan & Dolphin for less than $200 a night, especially when taking advantage of available discounts (e.g., AAA, AARP, educator, Starwoods Preferred Guest, etc.). Personally, I would rather pay $200 total for a night at the Dolphin than pay $200 total for a night at a value.

The potential yield of this offer would seem to be infinitesimal. I would suspect most guests have prearranged airline flights that carry significant cancellation/rebooking fees.

I'd think you'd have the other problem, too, of needing tickets to the theme parks. You probably went in thinking x days at the parks then leave. If you add a day of the hotel room now you're buying a one-day ticket to the park(s) which can be kind of pricey, unless there's more to this deal than just a room.

We also received one (stayed at AKL from 12/19 - 12/26) and we could not figure out who this deal would really work for, except maybe FL residents. We would have had to change our flights, pay an extra day of parking at our home airport, pay an extra day of boarding for our dog, along with the cost of another day of food and another day of tickets. For two people, I just don't know how that is ANY incentive, regardless of the discount. Now, if it had been one free night and maybe one free day added onto our dining plan...that would have made me think a little longer about it.

What you have described is what I had initially thought. If the night was free and a dining credit added, then it MIGHT be something to think about. However, for an out of state resident, the extra cost of one night could really be significant. Based on past experience, we have paid over $300 to cancel and rebook one plane ticket.

Unless the offer is for a free night or a room for a song, I do not see how the offer could be of value, unless you are in a high ticket room. If you are able to save $600+ on a high ticket room, maybe it might come out to be a wash after accounting for the added expenses. Then again, if you are in a high ticket room, maybe you do not even care about the added costs ;)

It would work better if they still offered the no-expiration tickets. That'd give you more flexibility. They did away with those.

I have an AP and even then, as the rest of you point out, I'd have had to:
- Drive down (from Atlanta instead of fly)
- had the next day off of work, anyway
- The deal on the hotel room had better be pretty good.

With that, I would have done it but that, again, seems like a small minority of people. If I were going to stay there any length of time (more than an impromptu weekend trip) I would have just planned and flown down because the drive isn't so great. If I were a FL resident, unless it was up in the panhandle or down at the tip, then it was probably a day-trip anyway.

It would work for me sometimes - FL resident, annual passes - only issue would be if one of us had to work the next day. Other than that, game on.

But those prices are more than we ever pay for Disney hotels, because we don't stay at peak times.
