We have been offered a 3 night stay in a delux or a 5 night in a moderate by Disney. We will add nights on before moving over to universal but what are your thoughts folks?
We are thinking 5 nights at the French Quarter or maybe 3 nights at Polynesian then we will top up to make it all a 8 night Disney stay . 2 adults 2 kids (10 & 13).
does anyone have any better options or considerations?
Hmmmmm …decisions decisions 🤷‍♂️

Wow... what did you do to get Disney to make the offer? I will always go with the choice that will give me more Disney days. The Poly has lots of wonderful reasons to stay there, but French Quarter ( you didnt say if its POFQ or PORS ) is great too. We stay at POFQ and love it there. The reason I might say go Poly would be if youll never get to stay there any other time due to the price and this offer is the only way it gets you there..

POFQ has been my families favorite for a long time, We always start to reserve somewhere else but seem to end up at POFQ most of the time. that said isn't Poly being refurbed currently? I would stay away form construction whenever possible.

Personally, I would go with the Poly or whatever is your favorite deluxe resort. The deluxe resorts are great but I don't stay in them because I feel they are extremely overpriced. This seems like a great opportunity to try one. One suggestion, if you are switching hotels mid-stay, stay at the one with more/better amenities last.
Thanks … we aren’t sure about which deluxe to go for … If we do??? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

If you go with the Deluxe then make it at the end of your stay. Do the parks hard at the start and then take it a little easier at the end enjoy the resort

Then you need to decide what you want to do for those last few days. If you like swimming then Beach Club or Yacht Club for Stormalong Bay makes a lot of sense. At the ages of your kids they’re probably old enough to not need watched ALL the time. And you could go to Epcot in the evenings, if you have park hoppers.

Or maybe AKL and enjoy the uniqueness of it. It’s stunning, lots of places to watch the animals and if some of the cultural activities come back even better. Plus you also have two pools to try out. Really nice for relaxing a little more.

Or of course a monorail resort or WL.

Whichever you choose, you’ll be spoilt for the next trip of course. 😉

I just came back from a stay at a moderate, after over a decade of staying at nothing but deluxes. The moderate (Caribbean Beach) was really nice, but there's really no comparison. If you're one who spends a good amount of time back at home base to recharge and to get away from the crowds and relax, go deluxe and enjoy yourself.

Looking at the comments I’m thinking 4 nights at POFQ and push the parks hard then go to Polynesian (August stay) … it will have all works completed by then. We can stay at the GF or any other delux but I’ve heard the Polynesian is going to be nice now refurb is done . The yc bc could be decent I suppose 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I prefer Riverside to French Quarter, but they're still easily the two best moderates IMO.

If you're going to go with a deluxe, the Polynesian would not be high on my list -- I'm not a big fan, but that's personal preference I suppose. Animal Kingdom Lodge is easily the best, but Grand Floridian is nice (not as nice as it once was) and very convenient for the Magic Kingdom. Wilderness Lodge is really good too, but I think the Boardwalk Inn would be my #2 for the proximity to EPCOT/DHS. Beach/Yacht Club are right there with it and they're almost all interchangeable; I just think the Boardwalk Inn has a better theming.

So you cant ask a question like this and not give all the details!!! ;) How did you get this offer, how bad did they screw things up?
Just a case of us having to reschedule 3 times and an unfortunate family situation last time we visited before Covid . Not their fault . They have been unbelievable and so understanding of our situation.

Glad to see that there are still Team Members there that have the Disney Magic, sorry about any tough times, but enjoy the visit and the POLY is amazing!!!!

It really depends on what you want to do, we stayed at Beach and Yacht club for a split stay and spent the majority of time at HS and Epcot, and one trip to AK, then we switched to Contemporary and spent the majority of that part at MK, it made it so easy to go to the parks that were close to the hotel, Your kids will absolutely LOVE the pool at Beach and Yacht Club, they are the perfect age if they enjoy pool stuff

FWIW, we're staying at YC based on it's proximity to the Skyliner (though BC would be slightly closer, we have 5 adult-sized ppl) and resort size. I would just check out the reviews here and at DisneyTouristBlog and decide what feels like the best fit for your family. FWIW, my family really enjoyed our stay at PORS and I think the food options (if they're all available) would suit your kiddos better. I agree that POFQ felt like it was geared to an older audience.

I'm guessing a right-handed family member lost their left pinkie finger.
Or they have a video of Cruella kicking someone that Disney doesn't want out there.
(If the video were of Mickey, they'd get a week at the Poly followed by two nights at the Star Wars hotel.)

What do you want out of your resort stay? Some people value atmosphere, some people value convenience.

I love the moderate resorts. I love how large they are and enjoy walking around them. Taking a boat to Disney Springs from French Quarter is fun.

Deluxe resorts will give you a night or two of Evening Magic Hours depending on your dates. Monorail access is a big perk for many.

Can't go wrong with this. Both resorts have nice theming and different pros and cons. You get to experience the best of both worlds.
