Resort Buses

Has anyone stayed in a WDW resort within the last 30 days? Are they still using the "bus on demand" system? If so, how is it working...both the mechanics and convenience. I'm going next week and wanted to know. Thanks

I still don't see the busses being eliminated for a long time. Even if they expand the monorail system I don't see them sending it to every resort. There would still be buses to a few places around property. I would like to see the parks connected and DTD. That would be a good start. Then we can worry about connecting the resorts.

We stopped renting a car years ago for our Disney trips. We also stopped using the shuttle system years ago and forked over the extra money for a taxi. Our first experience with Mears was good, the second and third was terrible. With a taxi we arrive and depart quickly. A rental car was a waste of time and money for us.

you don't want the monorails to go everywhere. There would just be tons of traffic up there. You think the TTC is a bad bottle-neck...imagine a more central TTC with EVERYONE having to go through it each morning. It would take much longer to get anywhere than the buses would. Disney would not add the TTC to moderate or value resorts. It'd be too expensive to build and would slow down traffic for the deluxe, big paying guests.

We like to eat sit down meals for dinner. And on property their aren't enough sit down places to eat at that are cheap. We do the fast food in the parks for lunch.

Go to the Universe of Energy.

1. Buses break down much more frequently than monorails.
2. Monorails can carry 7 Bus loads of people at the same time.
3. Monorails don't pollute.
4. Monorails don't have to wait in traffic since they are elevated.
5. Disney Monorails have never crashed or gotten into an accident.
6. Monorails don't use as many Cast Members to operate.
7. Monorails look like they belong in Disney because they seem to be magical. Buses aren't.
8. Most people like to ride on a monorail more than a bus.

I will address your points as follows:

1. True, but for every bus that breaks down there are 2 more to fill the need. Not so with the monorail.

2. True. However, the monorails seldom run at full capacity. Buses are more flexible and efficient in this regard.

3. False. Monorails do not run on pixie dust. The Reedy Creek Improvement District has its own power system and can't keep up with the demand needed by the monorails. Tampa Electric Company (TECO) sells many megawatts to WDW to run those monorails. Per passenger mile, the monorails pollute much more than the buses.

4. True.

5. True and False.

6. True.

7. True.

8. True.

You have some very good points. Personally, I think the monorails are great. I really like the "real one" in Japan. Unfortunately, they're way too expensive to operate and just plain inefficient. Clearly WDW transportation can be ranked in this order from best to worst:

1. Bus
2. Tram
3. Magic Kingdom Railroad
4. Monorail
5. TTA
6. Taxi/Limo
7. Boat

And, on a lighter note you are correct sir! It is the Transportation & Ticket Center. However, who goes there for transportation (voluntarily I mean)? Did you ever wonder why you can buy tickets at Epcot, MGM and AK but at MK you go to the TTC?

In reality, the monorail has been a big resource drain on improved transportation at WDW.

Okay. So monorails don't pollute as much as buses. But you are right, they do pollute. Anyways, what accident are you refering to involving the monorails? I haven't heard of any. Oh well. On a last note, your rating of WDW Transportation:

1. Bus- They go everywhere, but no sign of Disney. A magical Bus!!! lol.

2. Tram- Ah, to the parking lot I go. I am parked in Happy.

3. Magic Kingdom Railroad- Well I have done it faster walking from Mickey's Toon Town to Splash Mt. And vice versa.

4. Monorail- Magical Transportation.

5. TTA- I can't consider this a form of WDW Transportation. lol

6. Taxi/Limo- Too much money!!! And it's not really WDW Transportation.

7. Boat- Hey, these are wonderful when leaving the Studios to go see RoE at Epcot!!! And you can't say Boat anymore. You have to say Watercraft. lol.

Well, I can see your points, but to me I would place the Monorail and the Buses tied for first, And Boats for third, only because I don't use the other modes of Transport much. Great talk though!!

:)

BTW, Monorails run at full capacity everyday. You just have to be there at opening and closing of the parks, and before the fireworks and parades. The rails are packed to the top.

Overall I feel that the Monorails are much better than the buses. They are magical!! But at the current time it seems that the monorail expansion is the last thing on Disney's minds. Truthfully i would rather see park improvements before the monorail.

There is monorail traffic...If you look at the tracks going around the Seven Seas Lagoon at any moment, there will be a monorail stopped waiting for the one in front of it to get out of the way. That's a problem w/ the monorails--no passing. Now, if you add two more parks, downtown disney, and all of the resorts to the picture--it would be a complete nightmare. They'd have to have like four TTCs to handle the traffic without having 1000 miles of monorail track, and you KNOW what a mess the TTC is...it'd take an hour and a half to get anywhere. At present time, the buses are the most efficient. People love the monorails due to their scarcity. If they had monorails everywhere, people would get sick of them in the same way that they get sick of the buses.
