Resort Buses

Has anyone stayed in a WDW resort within the last 30 days? Are they still using the "bus on demand" system? If so, how is it working...both the mechanics and convenience. I'm going next week and wanted to know. Thanks

They are using it, but not all the time. Sometimes there was someone at the bus stop in the morning only asking us where we had to go. She hen punched it in on her Palm Pilot thing and we waited. I didn't notice any difference from the old systm an this. We still waited plenty for a bus andthere were a lot of people waiting too. So truthfuly I don't think it was worth buying the little handheld computers.

We were there over New Year's. They were using them at the Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk resorts. They were able to tell us exactly when the next bus for our destination was going to arrive. But, it didn't help the buses get there any faster.

ok, i know im new at this, but i thought the bus system was awesome! the longest wait we had was 15 to 20 min. and it was nice to just sit a spell after walking all day. i think my feet grew a size!

It's not the end of the day I dislike...it's the morning and the afternoon, when you want to go to the parks. However, I have not heard any real complaints of the current system being worse (or better) than the old. Most people say they wait 15-20 minutes, and the signs always said buses came every 20 minutes, so I don't see any real change...

We've just come back, staying at the Swan and they seemed to be running regularly there - all the notices in the hotel said every 15-20 minutes and that was what we experienced. Also the boats were running regularly as well. We used buses to and from MK and AK and Downtown Disney and boats for MGM and Epcot. Ended up wondering why we had bothered with a car - it just sat in the car park!

Let's get rid of all the stinkin buses, and put in more monorails, the best transportation system in America! Yes, the new Mark VIII monorails can go faster if needed... A monorail to Vero Beach could be possible!

Let's work on gettin WDW complete with monorails. Then we can worry about going to Vero Beach. But if that ever does happen. Resort prices will go way up. Every resort will be like a deluxe accomadation because of the monorail

Expansion is in your dreams

Just got back from a weeks stay at WDW today. I am happy to report that the bus system is working very well. So well, in fact, that I think that any monorail expansion is dead. About 0915 hours on 02/04/2002, I was at Epcot and intended to take the monorail to the MK. As I walked up the ramp a CM walked down to me and said, "Are you going to the Magic Kingdom?" I nodded yes and the CM said, "The monorail is broken." He then directed me to a waiting bus. The bus marquee said, "Magic Kingdom". I got on the bus and asked the driver, "Are you going to the Magic Kingdom or the Ticket & Transportation Center?". He said he was going to the TTC. I announced to the crowd on the bus, "This bus is going to the Ticket & Transportation Center, not the Magic Kingdom!". With that, about 35 people started to get off the bus. There were only 3 people that wanted to go to the TTC! The bus driver said, "Ok, ok...we'll go to the MK first and then go to the TTC." Everyone cheered as we loaded back into the bus. As it turned out, we got to MK faster on the bus (i.e. rather than taking the monorail to the TTC and switching to MK/Resorts monorail). After checking with some other CM's we discovered that a train on the TTC/Epcot side of the monorail broke down near the TTC and it took almost 2 hours to clear the tracks. The TTC (always to be avoided if possible because it is such a big bottleneck) mushroomed beyond capacity and about 55 buses were redirected to the TCC to pick up the slack. The buses were able to shoulder most of the burden while the ferryboat and the remaining MK/Resort monorail were only able to transport about one third of the crowd.

So, I learned something. Monorails work good until one breaks and then the whole route breaks down too. Boats are slow. Buses rescue boats and monorails. Buses are not romantic but get the job done and the driver will change his route if you ask nicely (with 35 friends). End of line.

Monorail Expansion isn't dead. Why? I'll tell you some reasons.

1. Buses break down much more frequently than monorails.
2. Monorails can carry 7 Bus loads of people at the same time.
3. Monorails don't pollute.
4. Monorails don't have to wait in traffic since they are elevated.
5. Disney Monorails have never crashed or gotten into an accident.
6. Monorails don't use as many Cast Members to operate.
7. Monorails look like they belong in Disney because they seem to be magical. Buses aren't.
8. Most people like to ride on a monorail more than a bus.

Those are my reasons. LoL.

On a lighter note, TTC Stands for the Transportation & Ticket Center, not the Ticket & Transportation Center.
