Request at Contemporary Resort

This may be a silly question, but DH and I booked a room at the Contemporary, Magic Kindgom view back in March. We requested a King size bed. I understand that it is not guaranteed, so has anyone ever requested something like this and it not work out. I hate to sound unappreciative or conceited but we are much more comfortable in a king bed. I'm worried that we'll check in and the resort will only have double beds. If double beds are the only thing available, I'm afraid we'll have to move to another resort. Any advice or suggestions?

They only have Queens and Kings, no double sized beds. Would 2 queen sized beds be an issue?

Yes, it's difficult going from a king size bed at home to a queen size bed on vacation. My DH is a rough sleeper and it wouldn't be right to sleep in separate beds. I'm trying to not be difficult but still make it comfortable for the both of us. Our room requests have always been granted, but for some reason I'm worried about this time.

Oh no that's understandable, but I was just mentioning that you won't get double beds, at worst you'd get queen beds.
I'd suggest making sure the request is on your reservation now, put it on again if you do the online check in, and then ask about it again at the check in desk.

It's noted on our reservation. Everytime I call and make a payment, I double check. I'll definitely do the online check in, although it will not assign a room until actually showing up at the counter. Do you think the time of arriving will matter what type of room we get? Planning on arriving that evening.

If, by chance, they do not honor your request that first evening, they will almost certainly be able to move you to a different room the next day. We had our luggage stored during the day while we went to a park and then "moved in" again later in the day.

Thanks for sharing! That's a wonderful idea. I could be worried for nothing.

It's fairly easy to get a king bed if you're not picky about where in the resort you want to be. However, it gets a little more tricky when you specifically want to be facing MK. On my last trip, we basically had to choose between king-size but not in the location we wanted, or two queens in the location we wanted.

Did you choose the view or the beds? What time did you check in at the Contemporary.

We were faced with the same decision last summer. When we booked, DH said that if they do not honor our request for a king bed he would be disappointed in our trip. When we arrived, all they had was 2 queen size bed rooms on the Magic Kingdom view side which is what we paid for. We could have gotten a king on the other side but turned it down.

In the end - not having a king size bed wasn't bad. We absolutely loved our view on the 11th floor of the castle! We ate breakfast every morning on our balcony plus watched Wishes every night. DH ended up having a GREAT time and not having a king size bed no longer bothered him.

Enjoy the Magic!

It was earlier in the day. We ended up choosing the view and if the beds were really uncomfortable for us size-wise we were going to get switched to another room when one became avilable, but we ended up being okay with queen size.

Yeah, we didn't pay for a view on the water side, we paid for a MK view. We really want to stay at the Contemporary, but if a king bed is not available, we will have to move to another resort. Being in a queen size bed will be miserable for the both of us. I've heard the view is awesome. Thanks for sharing!

There is an advantage to having 2 beds in your room. OK, there are TWO advantages, but I won't get into the other one here :D One bed can be a "nap bed" where you can crash in the afternoon if you need to. You may still be dripping with sunscreen or wearing the clothes you wore to the park. And then, when you get back at night, you still have a clean bed.

I was worried about us having to drop a bed size because I can not stand to touch my husband when he asleep. I swear he is an oven when he sleeps, so are our kids for that matter, and I can not sleep when I am hot. But I discovered that after a day in the parks we are so tired that neither of us even notices the other at night! Best sleep I have had in years!

I hope that we're able to get a king. We've stayed at GF & BC in the past and we've always had a king and been satisified! While at the Contemporary, we'll be able to stay in a queen one night maybe two before going insane. DH literally does flips while he's sleeping and kicks! I can't believe I'm stressing myself out over the size of bed, but if I don't get 8 hours of non-stop "still" sleep, watch out Disney, I'll be the next Cruella de Vil.

There was 8 of us going to WDW and all staying at the contemp - booked it a year and a couple months prior - I asked for 3 rooms all together and gave the travel agent a list of 10 different room numbers that i wanted (which were all on the eleventh floor over Chef Mickey's) and I got what i wanted.

Book far enough in advance and your reguest have a better chance of happening

We booked on March 3rd for our September visit. How was the Contemporary? This will be our first time staying there.

Suck it up and deal with it. No...just kidding. Next time you call to make a payment, you might want to ask the CM if there's a time of day (that they've noticed from experience) when the most number of rooms, and therefore the largest possibility of a room with a King Size bed, have opened up. That might give you a better idea of when a good time to check in would be.

king beds at contemporary

I just returned from my stay at the Contemporary, Tower room, Magic Kingdom view, and we also requested a King. We always got the King bed in the past, however not this time, and when I told them that it was requested long ago, I was told that there are only 6 King Rooms now in the entire resort so that request is almost never filled any more. If that request is very important to you, I would call the Contemporary Resort a week or so before you arrive and speak to the people who do the room assignments.
