Replacement for Tomorrowland Speedway?

In Orlando, the roof structure would also soak up a lot of rain, especially late afternoon summer thunderstorms. Do we know if the ride would need to shut down in the rain (like TT) if it is not covered?
It would be no different than the other outdoor coasters already in the Orlando area.

I don't think there's any way Tron gets built without the outdoor portion and light package. That's the whole deal with TRON in Shanghai.

Beyond that, if I look from it from a bean counter's perspective... The smaller the building, the less ongoing heating/AC and maintenance I've gotta do on that building. That might not be huge, but I could see TDO factoring that kind of BS in.

It's all already engineered. The plans have already been drawn up. That's probably a LARGE portion of the resources it consumed during design/construction for Shanghai. The cost for a second glass canopy would be much less than Shanghai.

If there's a cost/design problem with the Shanghai design, it would be the multi-level setup of Shanghai. But Martin has suggested TRON would majorly change sightlines, which would suggest the multi-level design sticks.

@marni1971??

I don't see it happening... But if they pass THIS up in favor of a warehouse... It would be another lasting memory of TDO's ineptitude.

The roof itself was the headache. The two levels are poorly organized, but hardly anything challenging. It would also be possible to provide cover without using the same roof design intent.

The concept and design intent being the same does not mean the design is complete, can be copied or is the same. Certain challenges will be known, but you’re still in a completely different context. So while you save money because you know your direction, there is still a large chunk of design work that would be needed.

Haven't looked at many pics but from yours I assumed the coaster supports were actually roof supports. Maybe that's why...
And someone was complaining a day or two ago about track supports. Thing is... With this design, they sort of WORK. I didn't have any issue with them at all. They're in the pics I posted above... But your eyes aren't drawn to them. They sort of become part of the look.

That really is a work of art. I can see myself just sitting in front of it all night with my jaw dropped open and my Mickey ice cream bar melting all over my hand.

I'm personally torn on the canopy. Visually it's beautiful, especially at night and it offers some great external kinetics making it either a draw or a deterrent for guests. It is an odd brake to go from the grid, to Tomorrowland, then back to the grid.
As a space saver perhaps they could do something along the lines of what's shown in this art I found at Disney and More:

Wrap the outdoor portion around Space Mountain, preferably with some sort of cover that lights up.
Wow that looks amazing! Was Disney and More suggesting that for Tron or was that just an unrelated but awesome piece of art you found? It's really very stunning.

I wonder if this is (very roughly) the kind of world we may find ourselves in:

How the Speedway will be modified has yet to be seen (and obviously Toontown Fair is gone), but Shanghai has this nice big arcing walkway that leads to the second level, perhaps something like that will get us over the railroad - and maybe even the Speedway - to where it seems TRON will live

With all the purest(s) on here espousing how DAK is the ultimate conservation/zoological/one with nature crap, the dino-land carnival feels like a section of six flags was cut out and plopped in there. nothing screams conservation more than six flags. o_O

seriously though, I really can't stand dino-land. the only thing over there that sorta fits is the children's play area. lol

oh, and the popcorn vendor.

Ever spent time in Restaurantasaurus? It contains some of the best themeing Disney has ever done.

People have been saying that Countdown to Extinction is great since its recent refurbishment. It may be no Temple of the Forbidden Eye, but it's undeniably still an E-ticket.

ya, it's one of the only highlights.. I've never found CoE enjoyable. I find the ride boring with a dumbed down storyline that has about as much depth as Michael Bay movie.

While I do agree that TRON is a bit of a round peg in a square hole... I don't think the idea of TDO spending millions in redesign in order to better keep theme is gonna happen.

With them, be careful what you wish for. I'd rather take a clone than a TDO redesign.

I am all for this, to an extent. But my goodness, that show building is garish. A HUGE building for less than a minute of attraction......

How complex does the plotline of a theme park attraction have to be? Splash Mountain isn't exactly Dr. Zhivago.

I understand what you're saying, but Dinosaur tries to come off as "smart". It comes off more laughable. Almost like the now defunct maelstrom (my least favorite "ride"(if you could call it that) in all of Disney.

I would be the guy that complained. I still have my reservations, however seeing more pictures of the Shanghai version I am starting to warm to the design. Concerned with the rumor that the glass canopy will not be on our version because that would just make the coaster stand out like a sore thumb. That being said idk how you would keep the theme going without the canopy. I am open to this and want to be blown away.

Party in the front. Business in the rear...
