Reopening Disneyland

Frozen looks kind of cool even though bare in some parts. I like all the scenes that take place outdoors as well as the fact that it has the drops. I wouldn’t classify it as a thrill ride though.
You mean Frozen Ever After? I don't believe it has any scenes that take place outdoors...

Yes
I'm not worried about reopening restrictions that may come when they reopen the parks (capacity/mask wearing/distancing/etc), but then I'm not in CA so I may be shut out from attending even if I'm ok with whatever the restrictions end up being.

I already did a weeklong park getaway last summer so it wouldn't be out of the question for this summer, assuming the new covid variants don't spread too much. Those parks last year were all places I'd already been to, and for the most part, I didn't feel like it was that diminished of an experience, to be honest. And an open DLR would be more favorable for me than WDW in worst case covid scenarios, since there's way more outdoor seating/dining, particularly for places that serve decent food, and the humidity's way less intense normally. If I had to drive from IL to get there for whatever reason, I was already planning to do just that pre-covid so no big deal really. Maybe I'd hit some national parks on the way and get some new state credits.

I already have tickets from when I was supposed to go last year, so that aspect of the trip is already covered.

What concerns me more than anything else is that demand will likely far exceed supply when the parks do reopen, and that reservations will be required (perhaps not officially, but likely in practice) far in advance, farther than I will feel comfortable planning a trip out until things get closer to normal, and that this will continue for months.

And that the perks I paid extra for (parkhopping, MaxPass) won't be offered.

I'm not going to worry too much about what the park will look like, what it's future could/will be/how it will operate/etc. until it's actually open again. Seems like it'd just be working myself up over things that may or may not ever happen and it's just not a productive thing for me to focus on right now.

I'll read the initial reports, see what's open and how things are running, see if I'm able to go, and plan accordingly.

That's what me and the wife did when we visited DAK over the summer. It just aligned really well as we were already in Florida to see family and the park was really quiet so we took advantage of it. One of the best theme park experiences of my life. We did everything twice and was done in about 4-5 hours. The mask was annoying and it was definitely hot out, but we managed to overcome it and really enjoy ourselves.

Ken Potrock has basically gone silent on Instagram ever since Governor Newsom said back in November they had to stay closed indefinitely until Orange County enters the Yellow Tier sometime in 2022.

When the suits go quiet like that, it usually means one of two things. Either they've dropped the issue and moved on, or the lawyers have sent out the gag order while they prep for litigation.

Newsom will be less interested in fighting Disneyland now that he’s legitimately worried about his political future. I doubt “screw you, Mickey Mouse!” nabs any votes.

I don't know. Even though there is a bill put out by an assemblyman that demands that all parks, big and little, be allowed to open in the "orange" tier, there is no guarantee that Newsom will sign off on it. For all we know, he may veto it. It may not matter much anyway. I have a feeling that Newsom will be recalled before he ever allows anything of the sort to be changed.

Wait.... Wait. There is a concern that there is a lot to be done to get the park open and Ken isn't doing it because he is absent on social media? Really? How does that make much sense. Maybe he is too busy to post?

In the last couple months, he's reopened Buena Vista Street (twice), finished Avengers Campus, pushed an ad campaign around Southern California to promote COVID response, abolished the AP program, and planned for the reopening of the park. He's done plenty, just from the stuff we can see.

He most recently sent a note to CMs to highlighting company events for Black History Month and once again promoting the changes coming to Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain.

Maybe these people aren’t convinced unless he keeps everyone apprised of his every move all the while instead of being kept guessing? I don't know. All I know is that I have no faith in Disneyland reopening anytime soon. It's not good enough for cases to go down, they must never be allowed to come back up again, as the last several months have proven. I fear that not enough vaccines may be distributed in time before another surge erupts, possibly from one of the variants. I would love to be mistaken, though.

When the re-opening rope drop date is officially announced I might start believing. Right now all the rumors have melted together and its just noise.

You act as if Mr. Potrock, or whomever the TDA President-Du-Jour is, actually sits at his desk composing those Tweets and asking a friend to take that photo for him for his 'Gram. Only the most naive would think a top corporate executive actually writes his own Tweets and does his own Instagram.

Same with major politicians, except for President Trump whose 5am stone cold sober Tweets were so fabulous that only he could have written them. 🤣

Mr. Potrock has a Communications team that handles that for him. Persons assigned to curate and craft all his official communications. He doesn't write the Tweets and the "Letters To The Cast", he doesn't need to flag down a random pedestrian to take the fun photo, there is paid staff to do that for him. He needs to approve it surely before a Communications manager in TDA hits "Send", but that function is perfunctory and automatic on Mr. Potrock's part. And often, that communication is crafted and drafted days ahead of time.

As you said yourself, there are allegedly 10,000 CM's still actively on the payroll in Anaheim. Surely there's two or three left in Corporate Communications on TDA's 4th floor.

This is not exclusive to Disney, to Disneyland, or to Mr. Potrock. Any Fortune 500 company in 2021 operates like this, and manages their official and senior executive communication to customers like this.

So knowing all that... yes, it is suspicious that Mr. Potrock has gone so very silent on Social Media since the new year.

Yes, that is a big part of it now. But I think this change in tactic would have taken place in 2021 even without the successful recall campaign. It's a bit complicated, and Newsom is trying his best to manage it all. But it's increasingly messy and seems to have spun out beyond his control now.

As I've said before, if Disney is so obsessed now with making their parks "politically correct", I think Mr. Toad is likely to get the axe. I don't think it's exactly "politically correct" to have a ride at a theme park intended for families to end with riders going to that dark, firery place.
Yes, and people claim Abraham Lincoln is offensive as well, I totally see them removing it and making it some random IP. Their justification for removing all things Walt Disney from Disneyland will be his quote about Disneyland never being finished.

I see the native american tribe going away soon too.

They're gonna celebrate Black History month by removing their only ride based on Black History.
As an actual black person who loves Splash & Jungle , you lost me. If either of those two rides are considered rides for black history then I guess I would have to unwillingly support this PATF ride just so we can actually get a ride for black folks. No one during Black History Month is opening the page of Jungle Cruise & Splash for black positivity & inspiration. And while anyone could ride those rides, neither ride was made with black people in mind.

That being said, for different reasons they shouldn’t remove Splash or Lincoln. I’m not African though so I won’t speak on JC.

LOL, if that's the best Disney could do for 'black rides' then instant fail! And I love both attractions, but c'mon!

It’s nice to hear them even talking like this ....

This is great news. It is nice things are just sounding a lot better now that we have an adult in the White House again and there just seems to be more co-operation between the government and states. Dr. Fauci said it could be by April that everyone could just get the vaccine and no more categories. That doesn't mean everyone will have access to the vaccine but it will greatly change things heading into the summer. Of course I'll believe it when I see it, but if true, we're talking just mere months now. And I can see a lot of changes by the end of the year.
