Would you use David's Rentals or DVC Rental Store? You can get cancel for any reason insurance with DVC Rental Store & not have to pay the amount in full.

Just wondering if any experience with the two.

I have been unlucky with renting DVC points. I have tried three times now, once four months out, six months and the last time seven months. We need to start planning our vacation at the eleven month mark. It is just hard because we usually plan three to four vacations a year and our dates move. I really want to try to see if we want to buy into the DVC thing.

We usually do WDW sometime in September and than again sometime in November/December.

Good luck and let us know if you get anything.

Request? IMO, yes. I would get on a list a few weeks or month early - so sometime in October. Where do you hope to stay (location and type)?

Do they hold you request until the eleventh month? Or do they start putting in right away?

This probably doent help because we have thus far been unsuccessful, but both have been wonderful to deal with. You just have to decide if you want to hold up your money while they are looking or not.

We used DVC Rental Store for these 2 reasons. It was super easy, no problems, and worked just as if we had made the reservation ourselves direct with Disney for practical purposes. Zero problems and will definitely use them again. Our agent (Bethani) was fantastic, responded quickly and completely. Will definitely use her again as well.

No experience with David's. I've heard good things about them, just no personal experience.
We've used DVC Rental Store twice and are scheduled for a third trip with accommodations through them at OKW this October. Super easy to work with, we've done the "cancel for any reason" option (for a price) which is a nice fall back. Our agent (Lauren) was super attentive to our needs, communicated very well (quickly & completely), and was just a joy to work with. I highly recommend them.

I'm a DVC member and get my friends and family discount for people all the time. I wouldn't care a bit to do this for you if you ever want to holler at me about it. It's 25% off per night but there are only certain rooms they put out for sell like that though and you for sure have to jump on it early. I'm a member at BLT and have 11 months there.

Need a 2 Bedroom Villa. 1st Choice Bay Lake, 2nd Beach Club, 3rd Boulder Ridge 4th Animal Kingdom
I'm a member at BLT and can actually do it for you if you have the dates you want to stay and I have 11 month access since that's my home resort. I love doing it for people. If nothing else I can at least get a price quote for you but can tell you on average it's up in the thousands for even renting a studio there because I do it for a lot of my friends and family and that price is WITH a 25% discount per day. A 2br at BLT is gonna run you way up there either way but if you're splitting the cost with someone it would actually be a really good deal.

How hard is it to get a studio at AKL? Thinking about this for next year, in Dec., so when would I put in a request? Also, can you still get the dining plan? Thank you for any help! We've been staying at DW for years but never at AKL.

AKL is really nice. That is our DVC home resort. First two weeks of Dec are likely the busiest DVC time of the year partly due to the very low point requirement costs. Having said that, there are a lot of DVC studio units between Jambo and Kidani. I would still get my request in right at 11 months though as you are also likely looking at star wars opening in that time frame... Jambo has value studio, club level, standard, and savanna views with value and CL being very difficult to get even right at 11 months. Kidani has standard and savanna views... You can get the dining plan with a DVC booking as well...

Studios AKL (or VAK, or Jambo or Kidani, nice to have so many options for names it's like being Puff Daddy) tend to be pretty easy to book. Partly because the resort is so big, and partly because the resort itself is so "remote," a lot of people prefer to be closer to the action, a monorail resort or between Epcot and DHS. AKL is only close to (naturally) Animal Kingdom with no particularly Disney-ish traveling options, like the monorail or by boat, just buses or cars. And no walking path. So as wonderful as the resort is, some people don't even consider it because of its location.

If you're renting point through an agent like David's they should be able to assist you in arranging a dining plan, and they also provide optional insurance in case you have an emergency and need to cancel (otherwise there is no refund, if you rent DVC points and cancel the last minute, the points owner would possibly lose the points for the year if they couldn't rent them out again right away so the onus is on you to be sure you're good to go for the dates you pick).

David's has a rule-of-thumb section in their FAQ as to when it's a good idea to try to book based on the resort you want and the room type or view/category.

I used David's to set up a trip to OKW in November. They are easy to work with but you definitely need to know your travel dates and then to get trip insurance that pays for any reason cancellation. I hit a snag last year using them when Hurricane Irma came through on my travel week. Trip insurance saved my bacon.

So, do I request a section? Do you prefer Jambo or Kidani? Which is closer to the bus stop (just curious, I have a special needs son that likes to be as close to the food and buses as possible - not as much of an issue in a deluxe since it's all inside, but at the mods and value I always book preferred)? Sorry so many questions, and thank you for responding! Our dates usually run around Dec. 8 -23 or similar every year. Used to be more end of Oct. beg. of Nov., but it's still kind of hot so we started doing Dec.

We have always wanted to try it, our favorite resort is WL (we're from the pacific NW, that may be why). We have been there for meals, but it is really a resort I'd like to explore. And AK is my favorite park, so I like the idea of being close. Do you prefer Jambo or Kidani? Less walking is better for us (I just mean in terms of time to get to the buses, my special needs son likes to be close for some reason, but can walk for hours). Thanks for the info. on insurance - in all the years we've been going to DW we have never cancelled a trip - but I was also never too worried about it since Disney has a pretty reasonable cancel policy. I would not risk it, however, when renting points. So now I will be able to add that!

No problem at all. Depending on your room it can be a pretty serious walk. The hallway set ups try to capitalise on getting as much savanna views as possible but this results in them going on for fairly long distances. If it were me, I would just request being close as possible to bus service. There are a number of discussions out there on DVC forums about room requests and such for AKL so I would just do a search for this (I don't think I am allowed to post them here). Otherwise, somebody else with more experience might chime in here. I believe all the DVC rooms at Jambo are on the upper floors whereas all of Kidani is DVC. I really like Jambo. The main lobby is just so grand and beautiful, especially at Christmas time... Kidani is nice too, but feels less than Jambo's scale... Jambo has a quick serve area as well (and Boma) whereas I don't think Kidani has quick serve, but they have Sanaa. We have visited Kidani but never actually stayed there. The two resorts are really close and they have a shuttle running between them. They often share transportation to the parks and I believe Kidani typically gets picked up first and dropped off first. Bus stops are both just out to the side of the main lobbies of each. You can also find DVC point charts (or just use the calculator from Davids) to figure out the number of points for the room you want. You would just multiply this point total by the per point dollar amount to get a cost estimate. For 2019 you would be looking at very low point totals for Dec 8-14 (adventure season) and a slight increase for Dec 15-23rd (choice season). Still decent value though... For us, Christmas is one of the best times to go, especially to AKL... Absolutely beautiful resort...

We've always gone through David's, simply because they were always able to find us a reservation faster. (I would put in simultaneous requests with both David's and the Rental Store, with a notation that I would cancel the request if the other agency found me a reservation first.) Both have always offered great customer service, however, and I'd be comfortable renting from either.
