renting a car under 25?

I think technically you can rent a car if you are under 25 with some companies (who I don't specifically know) but there are extra charges. You will pay alot more for it. I know this was the case when I was looking into it a few years ago.

Below are Alamo's policies on age requirements:

The primary renter of the vehicle must be 25 years of age, or in limited cases, the minimum age is 21.
All drivers must show a valid driver's license at time of rental.
Rental rates may be higher for renters aged 21 - 24.
Certain specialty and larger sized vehicles may not be rented to younger drivers.
Some locations maintain maximum age limits.
Alamo reserves the right to refuse rental of a vehicle if the renter demonstrates inability to handle road rules and conditions

I went in may with my two friends (we were all 19) and we could not find a single company that would allow us to rent. We had to settle for taking Amtrak in to Orlando and taking a van to our hotel.

Sorry.

Let us know what happens though. We put in a complaint to a few companies so they might consider changing the policy someday. Maybe if enough people do that it might happen (and by that time we'll be old enough to rent it ourselves anyway) Oh Well.

You CAN rent a car if you are under 25... but you will pay thru the nose....

Last time I checked, a few years ago (when I had to go down to Orlando for work related somthing or other) They tack on an EXTRA $25 a DAY for those 25 and under... even some of the smaller companies I checked out had those "under age" or "young driver" fees.

I know Hertz doesn't. On the courtesy bus the last time we were down there, there were 3 guys all in an outrage that they'd taken the courtesy bus out to the Hertz off-MCO location only to find this out. Had they initially asked the bus driver on the way over i'm sure i wouldn't have this answer for you. :D

Sorry but this will never happen. Oh Well is right!

The only company I can think of that MIGHT possibly do this is Enterprise. They get most of their business through insurance rentals (while your car is being repaired) so MIGHT rent to younger drivers. Of course, you WILL pay a lot more.

Alamo rents to younger drivers, (see my post above) they just impose an extra fee. Many of the rental companies do this. If you are under 25 and want to rent, expect to pay through the nose. :(

Alamo/National will rent a car to a person under the age of 25, but not under the age of 21. I rented one from National about a year ago in Orlando and rented several times from them and Alamo in Salt Lake City over the past few years. When I was under 24, I had to pay about double what they normally charge because they considered me to be "high risk," even though I've never had an accident or even been pulled over for a traffic ticket. When I turned 24, they dropped the additional charge because I had a clean driving record. I called and talked to a representative on the phone and got that. So give Alamo/National a try...they're probably you're best bet.

Good luck!

Enterprise is 21 years of age or older.

National is 21 years of age or older. May be subject to a $25.00 per day young renters fee.

Alamo is 21-24 years of age with additional fee.

Thrifty is minimum age of 21.

Payless is 21 years of age.

Hope this helps. If I locate more companies I will post again.
