Richard Sherman wrote a musical tribute to Marty on the occasion of his retirement, and I thought it fitting to share it with the community again. (An excerpt from Marty's book, Dream it! Do it! from the forward by Richard M. Sherman.)

“(To the tune of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”)

TRIBUTE TO MARTY
Verse I
Before the doors of Disneyland
Were opened to the world
Young Marty Sklar was asked
To have his writing skills unfurled
The Disneyland newspaper
Was first product of his skill
Then PR and Publicity
Young Marty filled the bill… He’s

Chorus
Never fearing, Imagineering
Mar-ty-sklar-e-docious”
For years he’s led Imagineers
With passion so ferocious
Through stress and strains
He’s held the reins
With leadership precocious
Never fearing Imagineering
Mar-ty-sklar-e-docious.…

Verse II
For Walt he wrote his speeches
And his annual reports
Then moved to WED to help create
Attractions and resorts
From Small World to Space Mountain
To eleven Disney parks
Our Marty steered Imagineers
With their creative sparks…(and his)

Repeat chorus

Verse III
He’s first to give out credit
To the great creative teams
His one persisting goal
Was to perpetuate Walt’s dreams
Succeed he did, and so we stand
As one to give three cheers
To Marty Sklar, the champion
Of all Imagineers.… He’s…

Last Chorus
Never fearing, Imagineering
Mar-ty-sklar-e-docious
For years he’s led Imagineers
With passion so ferocious
Through stress and strains
He’s held the reins
With leadership precocious
Never fearing Imagineering
Mar-ty-sklar-e-docious.…

I might be weird but I never get sad at the passing of great individuals. I get appreciative and my spirit gets lifted.

Normal guys like me and most everyone on this board will be remembered by our offspring and some friends (if we don't outlive them all). Our grandkids, maybe our great grandkids. But then we're never mentioned again and completely forgotten.
Our time on earth is finite and we're insignificant.

People like Marty aren't normal. They aren't like me and you. Their time on earth isn't finite. They'll be remembered and their work truly made a difference. To leave an actual legacy is a true feat in this earth of billions.

I am shocked about the news. He was a great imagineer. My first memory of his stuff was me entering Epcot back in 1991. Epcot was in its prime at the time When I first visited it. I considered Epcot my number one theme park for many years.

Marty has done a lot of great stuff for attractions and theme parks through the years that family members seen through the years.

RIP Marty

I just rewatched my copy of Modern Marvels, Walt Disney World with the kids last week. Marty was a interviewed and played a prominent role in the program. He has impacted so many people and is represented in so many ways he will live on in my memories. Folks like Marty Sklar and Tony Baxter come along once a lifetime. RIP and thanks for the memories Mr. Sklar.

I'll never forget meeting him at the 2013 Expo and getting my copy of his book autographed. As a 13 year old who dreamed of becoming an Imagineer, it was one of the best moments of my life. Thank you for all of the memories you helped create for me and the millions of other Disney fans around the world Mr. Sklar. Rest in Peace.

Thanks to a friend of mine I got to have lunch with Marty last year at IAAPA. It truly was a moment in time I won't forget. I got to hear him tell stories that I hadn't heard him tell before. It was hard not to sit there in awe that I was having lunch and a great conversation with someone who worked with Walt Disney on a day to day basis. It really was an amazing day. RIP Marty.

RIP Marty. One of my favorites. :(
Edit: I would like to share a picture I snapped of him on Disneyland's 60th (with Bob Gurr).
