Refrigerators being temporarily removed from all rooms

My cousin stayed at Pop a few weeks ago, and his room had a refrigerator, but it wasn't working. Had a note on it asking customers not to use it. ????

...hope they got a $15/night credit as was promised.

...I was there (POP) 8/24 - 9/2 ....and after a prolonged and slightly heated encounter with the CM at check-in ...got our $135 credit.

A $15 per night credit was not promised by Disney.

The resorts were granted permission to offer up to a $15 per night credit in certain circumstances. It was to be used at the manager's discretion at the resort if a refrigerator was not available, or if another option did not meet the guest's needs. But it was never intended to be automatically applied or otherwise guaranteed to guests who were staying in the affected rooms.

....it was on their web site at one point. The CM at check-in gave us a hard time at POP ...stating, "When did you book the trip"? ...."If you booked after (some date) ...then the refrigerators were removed from the list of amenities on the web site ...and no credit is due to the guest".

....well ...after jerking us around moments earlier about our room .....I think that they saw the "I want to kill you look" in my wife's eyes ...and gave the $135 credit. (besides ...we booked WAY before the fridge issue reared its head).

....BUT .....regardless of the "when did you book us" ...'out' that they were trying to employ, they were wrong about the issue that since they they took it off the web as a listed amenity ...that they owe the guest nothing. For that philosophy to 'stick' ...they'd have to remove the fridge from the room ...completely. The mere fact that they left the fridge in the room ....with a sign on it that stated to not plug it in ...or that it was dangerous to do so ....MADE it known to one and all that it was an amenity ...and was supposed to be there ...and was supposed to be working. It's an 'amenity' just like hot running water, a mattress on the bed, paint on the walls, knobs on the doors ...etc.

....what a CM at the food court (and also the bartender at Petals) finally admitted to us ...was that in order to get the credit (should there not be a fridge) ...was that you had to ask for it ...because they were not telling anyone that it was available to them. Disney corporate gave them a script ...and they were following it to the letter. The 'bean-counters' really needed to keep their dirty little fingers out of the "hospitality end" of the Disney machine.

Just arrived at POR and no fridge. Went to check in and requested one and was told they are saved for those with medical issues but they would see if one was available and if it was they would sent to our room. By the time we got back to the room the fridge was in. Just need to make sure it works now!

Just got back yesterday from a week at POR in a Royal Guest Room and we had no fridge in building 90. We were switched to a another Royal Room on our last night in the same building just across from our other room and there was also no fridge.

My sister was just there 2 weeks ago in Royal Room and they got one but I think that was because my brother-in-laws MS medication has to be kept refrigerated so they put one in at their request.

Stayed at Bay Lake Tower in September...got a letter in the mail saying "Your room will not have a fridge as they are being taking out of all rooms." No big deal - no medicine or anything. But then I checked in to BLT aaaaand we had a fridge. Go figure. o_O

That's ridiculous. How difficult and time-consuming can it be to order and install dorm-sized refrigerators? When my husband needed one for his office, I had it ordered, delivered and "installed" inside of 2 weeks, and it cost me all of $50 and 20 minutes of physical labor... just imagine what I could have done with billions of dollars and tens of thousands of employees!

If you booked before the refrigerators were removed (or at least, before Disney's website stopped advertising in-room refrigerators as an amenity for your hotel), you can demand a discount if your room doesn't have one. (Someone posted about this not too long ago -- she said the CMs would only give you the discount if you asked for it.)

Were you in a studio (dorm-sized fridge) or a villa (full-size fridge)? I've assumed all along that the one and two-bedroom villas weren't affected by the fridge removal, but maybe it's not wise for me to assume anything...

Well that's part of the problem... their size. You can go over to your local walmart and buy a fridge no problem... but try buying 5 from the same store.. ok, they might find some at neighbor stores for you. Now walk in and say you need 10,000 and see what happens :)

Now add in the logistics that your rooms are 'in use' all the time and you are trying to do this with minimal disruption to your guests.

It all sounds 'easy' when you are doing this in small volumes.. but doing it across many thousands of rooms.. everything scales up and your old methods typically no longer work.

Just think... 'where do I put 5,000 refridgerators waiting to be installed?' or 'where do I put the old ones?'

We also don't know if they are making any modifications to the furniture to accommodate the new ones, etc.

They were standard sizes. Even if they replaced them in small batches, you'd think we'd see a sizable number having been replaced by now. They were removed over four months ago, and people still have to have a 'medical need' to get one...

Second on this, no Fridge in the Magnolia House in POR on October.

Also, did they finally admit what was wrong with the units?
a fire risk?
