They could at least paint them, a lagoon blue color...
Part of me hopes they have content running on the screens in the daytime, that might save some of it.

Wow you are all very negative. You guys think the globe sitting out in the water or the previous barges looked any better? I'm sure they are just testing something or getting it out of the way while they work on the other ones. It may not even be finished yet, I'm sure there will be some sort of skirt that goes around the bottom or something to clean up the look a bit.

I mean seriously, here is some of the previous barges...

OMG WOW SO PRETTY!

You do realize that the RoE barges didn’t live 24x7x365 in WSL, right? They went out in the afternoon and went backstage at night. Nor were they anywhere close to the size of these giant tacos. Not sure what you’re trying to defend with your post, but it was already a DOA argument with your second, uninformed, line, not to mention these WILL be anchored in WSL.

Getting rid of Illuminations?
No. Permanently docking behemoth barges in the middle of the lagoon.

I know we all loved RoE (especially me) but its time had definitely come. Honestly, it should have been replaced ~10 years before it was. The longer it stays though, the more it becomes ingrained and "integral" to the experience like RoE and Wishes, which is why it's a little extra hard to rip off the band-aids of these shows. The issue is more with the show that's replacing it and its impact.

The crazy thing is, these barges would be so on-theme for the dynamic and aesthetic of citywalk that no one would bat an eye at them there...

I can’t believe I just typed that.
I think you're on to something.

For thematic integrity, the best solution now is for all the national pavilion of World Showcase is to adapt a steampunk aesthetic.

This 100%! I've also worked with video walls before and know just how temperamental they can be, and that was on a stage, not on a floating surface.
Would you prefer to see only the rotating arms 24/7 then? They were probably trying to find a way to hide them and ended up with the screens to match the curvature. I'm not saying this is the route I would've taken with the barges, but it would get somewhere in the what were they thinking category.

The arms are a head scratcher to me of their purpose in the show. If it were to form something I could see it, but just to create a wave of light that other lighting is capable of doing, doesn’t make sense. Maybe it was simply to have some type of moving element in the show?
