I will be going to Disney World in July and will be staying at the Beach Club Resort. I have stayed there twice before and both times had gotten the refillable mugs. My question is can I bring the same mugs from my past trips instead of buying new ones? Thanks!:)
PS-Do they still cost $11.99?

This is my take on the whole mug deabate. While I am sure no one will believe me what I say, I am only posting what several high ranking Cast Members have told me. So if you believe me fine, if not I don't really care. Anyway they said they don't really care if guests bring back old mugs, because WDW does not pay Coca Cola for the syrup & everything else, because in return Coke gets free advertising in WDW. Plus they have also told me the syrup costs less then 5 cents, so they don't really care about it that much. Also I don't see how using old mugs is theft if Cast Members say it's ok. I mean are there some people that are so holier-then-thou that you think using an old mug is stealing give me a break. Finally & I know I will get flamed for this. Last month in WDW I purchased a new Contemporary mug, because the mug which I was using for the past 6 years accidently got a hole on it. So when I am back at WDW in August I plan to bring that mug back, eventhough it says good for lenght of stay, because in the end Cast Memebers don't really care & the only reason they say good for lenght of stay, is a way of WDW making $11.99 so guests always purchase new mugs.

The people empowered with making policy decisions care enough to have the policy in place. You are using your information to justify getting away with something. That is your choice.

Please answer me this question. Let's say the food courts had penny candy, candy that literally sold for one cent per piece (which would obviously cost Disney less than the "five cents" per unit of soft drinks you mentioned). Would it be okay to steal two or three of those pieces of penny candy, since they cost so little in the first place? If not, how does that differ from soda? Is stealing individually wrapped solid foods "worse" than stealing unpackaged liquids?

This is a serious question, not a flame. Let's explore this.

RE: "refillable mugs"

:animwink: Isn't there something just a l-i-t-t-l-e incongruous about staying at the Beach Club Resort and trying to save money on an $12 resort mug?

We think of them a souvenirs, although there are 4 of us and we each have 2 drinks /meal and then when we return from the parks and at the pools.
They do pay for themselves in the long run.

If you keep reusing the same mug over and over again, don't they eventually get all yucky? Our mugs eventually get all faded from the dishwasher. I use a mug every day for my ice water to get me in the disney spirit & I look forward to new trip to get new mugs to replace my old ones.

We use ours at home and have worn a few out and a few have broken. Some paints wear off and others don't. *shrugs*

I've also used them to give coffee to the guy who plows for us if he isn't going straight home and tell him to keep it and bring it back on the next trip for a refill.

Ok 1st off all I would not steal any penny candy, because you can not compare them to using old mugs, no matter if they also cost less then 5 cents to make. The fact is several high ranking WDW Cast Members have told my family & I they don't care if we bring back old mugs, because they don't really care what guests do. The only reason they say "good for lenght of stay" is their way of a cash grab in order to make $11.99 of families who will purchase a certin amount of mugs each time they visit WDW. Also I say again we were told WDW does not pay for the syrup & everything else that it costs to serve the drinks to the guests (maintance of the machines & etc) , so they don't lose any money at all when guests use old mugs. Basically if Cast Members don't care, why should any of you care? Besides your holier - then - thou attitude is getting sick already, because you all try to make people feel guilty by saying they are stealing soda's when they have been told by CM's they are not & you always try to use other examples to compare this to like saying using an old mug is like running over a person & leaving the accident scene, or robbing a bank. Give me a break here & get off your high horse.

If some "high ranking" employees of a movie theater say its okay if people sneak in the side or back door of the theater, does THAT make it okay? It doesn't cost the movie theater any money if some people sneak in, as long as the theater isn't full to capacity and they're keeping paying customers out.

How about that analogy?

Getting back to your argument, Disney absolutely does lose money when people illicitly re-use mugs. Most of those people would be forking over bucks for soft drinks (either one-timers or mugs), so illicit re-use of mugs constitutes a loss of potential income. From a business sense, that IS lost income. The so-called "high-ranking" people you talked to are not in the position to set policy. Even if you spoke with the general manager of the resort, he or she is not empoweed by his/her employer to make such a decision. Each individual resort does not set its own policies.

I've not said anything to try to make anyone feel guilty, and I've measured my horse and it's pretty darn low to the ground. If you feel guilty, look inside and not at me. But feel free to comb through my posts and find some guilt-inspiring phrases and tell me I'm wrong, if you'd like. I don't appreciate being falsely accused.

It concerns me, WDW Fan, that I'm trying to have a rational discussion while you must resort to emotion and name-calling. Let's talk, not argue.

Well Cast Members are told to stand by the rules which WDW managment tells then why do they never enforce this goofy policy? Also I was told all this info about the mugs from managment CM's at the Resorts & not the ones who work in the counter service locations if you wan technical.

I said this before & I will say it again. If WDW does not care about guests using old mugs, why do you? You know CM's will never stop you, so keeping ramming all this down our throats? Finally if you saw someone you knew was using an old mug, would you have the guts to say anything, if a Cast Member does not? Or would you inform the Cast Member & see if they do anything, like tatale tailing on someone in school?

PLEASE -- show me where I compared stealing a little soda to injuring someone. Let's not compare apples to oranges.

I think that's the problem here, someone who just simply doesn't fully comprehend logic and reasoning. I've presented pretty down-to-earth, reasonable analogies in order to look at the principal, and that's ben misconstrued as comparing mug refills to hit and run. I can't debate with someone who can only argue but not debate in a civil manner.

Although, when I was a teenager I probably acted like that, too. Once you have to make your own way in the world rather than rely on the parents, it becomes much easier to see how the world really works compared with how you want it to work.

Ok I am going to stop with these anaolgy's because no matter what I say, you will also come up with something to prove me wrong.

As for what these Cast Members have told me, I am just repeating what they said. So if they tell me WDW does not lose any money when guests use old mugs, I believe them. I understand that is a hard thing for you & others to believe, so I am just trying to explain what they told me.

I do not feel guilty for using an old mug, because if Cast Memebers have told me it's ok then that's good enough for me. So if they were to follow this rule with the signs & etc saying "good for lenght of stay" then maybe they should start enforcing it better, because there will always be guests using old mugs & guests using their mugs at other Resorts.

Finally CleveRocks,
I never said you made any of those examples comparing using an old mug to stealing. I was referring to other comments like that which were made by other people who responded to this thread.

Hey Eric  Good to see ya posting over here too. Ya never did let me know how that cream worked on your knee.

As far as the mugs go.. I *genuinely* don't see why in the world it's such a big issue to buy new mugs? DH & I have even bought mugs from resorts we're not staying at just to have them (plus I'm usually dying of thirst and like fountain coke better than bottle). I enjoy having my drinks at home in the Disney mugs and they get a ton of use both during their time at the park and at home. They're also probably some of the cheapest USEFUL souveneirs you can buy there. I'm genuinely stumped as to why people want to take the old mugs back? What's wrong w/ getting new ones? If they were doubled in price, I could see the want to try to save that 20 dollars. The rules are pretty clearly outlined even if the CMs don't enforce it. There are probably a lot of other rules in the WDW book the CMs don't go out of their way to enforce but that doesn't make it right to do them. Like I said, this genuinely stumps me. I'm not trying to add fuel to the fire.

Do whatever ...you will be judged by your own actions.

And that's all I got to say about that.
I always have taken my mug back & nothing bad has ever happened to me, so I don't think I am about to be judged anytime soon. If it makes you feel better to basically tell a person they are going to be punished or go to hell (which is obvsiously what you mean by your statement) go right ahead if it makes you sleep better at night, because I am sure you follow every WDW rule excatly how they state it.

Let's try to keep this civil.

And as soon as someone posts the old "I suppose you never broke the law by speeding? Unless you're perfect, you have no right to judge anyone else" argument, the thread will be locked.

Time to shut this thread down!

You are probably right, not a big deal to by a new mug. I have never bought the mugs since I dont think it would pay off for me since I am hardly ever at my resort. Also the price sort of is a big deal unless you are traveling alone and only need to caugh up $12? once. However if it is a family of 4 lets just say, I think it is a huge amount of money to caugh up $50 to have soad while only at your resort. If I could take and refil this mug at the parks too, I would buy it in a heart beat and would even be willing to pay twice as much. Just my 2 cents.
