Until they roll out the Rapid Fill RFID cups, the mugs are only good in the resort you are staying in. They have never been for use in the parks. It is also not an "unspoken rule". It states this in your dining plan information. Is this "resort only" thing an unspoken rule? Cause my family used our DP mugs all over DHS, Epcot & AK without hesitation. Didn't know we were outlaws!
I'm pretty sure the CM who rang us up at POFQ food court said they were good everywhere but MK since there are no fountains in the park.

That's why there was no place to fill your mug at MK. They are resort only. (This goes right along with the "mug is not to be used on future trips" policy.) The place at HS is closing and the places at AK/EP are a wait and see when the Rapid Fill rolls out later this month. They also can't be used in the water parks. That would be nice if the new mugs could be used in the parks (I'm a Diet Coke addict.) but the cost would be outrageous. There's a backlash already that they are raising the price to $17.99 for a stay of 4-14 days, in park use (not that it would ever happen) could easily jack the price to $40 or more. (This is Disney after all.) A one day use is going to be $8.99.I'll have to take your word for it, but it seems like a silty policy. A property-wide mug should be a perk a the dining plan.
