Such as the ones you get with the DDPs

Are these good in the parks, or only at the resorts? And are they only good at that one resort from which you first get it?

I don't know how any of this works, and I also will probably be doing a split stay.

They are not good at the parks. They are good at any resort during your stay. You can't use them for other trips.

they are only refillable at your home resort. they are good for "length of stay". disney does not clarify if length of stay is only that resort if you change resorts still on property.
i don't think anyone would buy one for 3 days at the first resort and pay again for another 3 days at a second resort. in my humble opinion, your length of stay would be your entire trip. not sure that is the official answer you would get from WDW, but .......they will still work at the next place. and all mugs look the same.
I AM NOT....READ THIS MUG POLICE.....NOT ONE WHO BELIEVES YOU CAN USE THE SAME MUG ON A RETURN TRIP- but this is the same stay.

Some people would say that it is only good for the time you're in the hotel where you bought it and if you switch, you need to buy another mug. I am not in that group. There is no way Disney would know (and I doubt any of them would even care, if they did know) if you took the mug to the new hotel and used it there.

They cannot be used in the parks.

The water parks have their own mug system going on, too. Not sure how that works, but you can't use your hotel mug there, either.

The mugs are identical across all resorts, and you don't need to purchase a new one at a new resort -- in fact, they sell the same mugs for years, and many people save theirs and just bring it back next time they go. Disney employees will NEVER stop you and question your use of any mug you have purchased at the resorts since they started the resort-refill program. I'm not saying its morally the right thing to do, but I frankly I don't have any morals so I don't care -- and neither do 95-percent of returning guests with their mugs (in fact, it was one of my POFQ foodcourt aquintances who told ME to just bring it back on my next visit)...As mentioned previously, they do not work inside the parks. As to selection, juices are all at cost and sold inside the food courts. The refillable mug options are soda, tea (hot or cold), coffee, water. Some of the foodcourts have hot chocolate. We have numerous other threads on the mugs, so a search will bring back lots of chatter on it.

So is it still unlimited on how much soda etc etc you can drink with it, at the Resort during your stay? Sorry I been out for some time. I know they said something about a chip being added in the mugs.

Yes, the mug is for unlimited use for the length of your stay only. But, I swear people bring them back from previous years!

I don't think they embedded chips in the mugs.

There are no chips and Yes, all the pop you can drink!

But the mugs are small, so unless you're hanging out by the food court, you won't get much. Maybe 12 oz, without ice.

They also do not seal shut (even though they do have a lid that "closes"...it still leaks). So, not the best to take with you to the parks either. At least, not unless you want to keep it empty and/or upright all day!

I'm staying at POFQ in October - is the only place to refil the mugs at POFQ at the food court? The food court closes at midnight, so that would mean no refills after midnight? I'm something of a late-night Diet Coke fiend (especially when staying at a hotel), but if my cut off time is midnight, the refillable mugs probably aren't worth the $$ for me. Not that I actually expect to be up much past midnight very often (between having a 4yo son, and the probably early park closings in October...

The mugs are refillable at the food courts only. I don't know if they leave the pop things on all night, but doubt it.

If you want pop late at night, buy some. :) Grocery stores are cheapest. Gas stations on Disney property are cheaper than hotel gift shops.

Me, myself, I don't think the mugs are convenient. All those trips to the food court and washing them myself...I was never a mug fan.

We have never bought a mug... always had one included in the dining plan. On the dining plan, the mugs are of no value at all to us because every meal comes with a drink. I take that back, there was one meal where we filled our mugs with pop and used the drink credit to pick up some extra milk for the kids.

I don't think I would ever buy a mug outright. I've never done the math, but I don't think we eat at the home resort often enough to make it break even. We're usually eating at the parks so as to not "waste" time going back and forth. So ultimately it depends on your situation and eating/drinking habits.

As for the mug police, I sort of take the middle ground: I see no problem using it at any resort, but only for the length of stay on property. I don't care that others bring back mugs from previous years/trips, I just wouldn't do that.

There was a time a few years ago at AS Sports when they tried the chip in the mugs but I haven't seen it since.
