Here's the initial agenda for the next Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors meeting on June 21.
Is the proposed Disney affordable housing in the RCID or unincorporated Orange County?
Makes sense. This article confirms the company went to Orange County for a zoning change on the land instead of RCID.Not within the RCID boundary, next to it. It says it's in "Horizon West Village H Apartment Land Use District"

Probably less.So it looks like the firefighter contract is not a done deal and is now being re-negotiated. Apparently the new administrator wants to redo the contract. Since the board never formally approved the agreed upon contract, it’s still left open to be changed. Not sure if that means more or less for the workers.
Stalled contract jeopardizes relations between new Disney governing body and firefighters
After appointees of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took over Walt Disney World’s governing district earlier this year, its firefighters were among the few employees who publicly welcomed them with open arms. I doubt it. If that were the case there wouldn't be a story about the firefighters union feeling alienated.Maybe more.
Probably less.
Maybe more.
It’s an odd development. Maybe it’s just an ego thing with the new guy wanting to claim it was “his contract” that he negotiated. Hopefully just that. The board has no incentive to give them less since Disney foots the bill unless the DS vendors got to them and convinced them it was excessive. I wonder if it’s not really around the pay raises and hiring but more around other stuff. Maybe they went to ensure there is no diversity, equity or inclusion in the hiring or training of the staff. Stuff like that. Whatever the case they should settle it soon. These guys were jerked around for a few years working without a contract, then thought they got a really good one, no not so sure.I doubt it. If that were the case there wouldn't be a story about the firefighters union feeling alienated.
Without the means to raise revenue on their own, maybe the Board needs the firefighter's raises to pay their lawyers. I'm sure the firefighters will understand it will work out for them in the end when the Board wins after all appeals are done nine years from now.Not sure if that means more or less for the workers.
Maybe. I would think they would just cut other spending for roads or maintenance. Then they tell Disney that if you want the roads repaired or new infrastructure you need to approve a tax increase.Without the means to raise revenue on their own, maybe the Board needs the firefighter's raises to pay their lawyers. This is troubling...and a good example of how this can go horribly bad (for Disney).Maybe. I would think they would just cut other spending for roads or maintenance. Then they tell Disney that if you want the roads repaired or new infrastructure you need to approve a tax increase.
I wonder if they want more vehicles. Or were they getting that in the new contract? So it looks like the firefighter contract is not a done deal and is now being re-negotiated. There were equipment upgrades and additions in the new contract. Maybe the new board got the RFP back and the cost was shocking?I wonder if they want more vehicles. Or were they getting that in the new contract?
Or of how it can really help strengthen their caseThis is troubling...and a good example of how this can go horribly bad (for Disney).
I would be concerned about a lot of things, but one thing I wouldn't even consider is that Disney won't come out of this unscathed. They are big, have a bigger budget than Florida probably does and can wait things out. Any interruption in Disney's ability to operated will result in less business, but now Florida has connected themselves with Disney the taxes that (sales and resort fee) that will decline along with it. Florida actually has more lose than Disney in the long run. They have already lost a 1 billion dollar investment in Florida business unrelated to theme parks. That might be for different reasons but the timing is pretty suspicious. This is troubling...and a good example of how this can go horribly bad (for Disney).
