Possibly...theres some verbiage in the bill which is dissolving RCID that has a 'Notwithstanding' clause aimed at the section most people are referencing in 189.072 section 2A.

Source for above
Sorry if I'm being stupid, But after googling that exact law, and what you said above, that still means basically the new law is recognizing the fact that they can't really dissolve anything without a majority vote of the landowner's?

I was thinking that since cities are taxing entities maybe they can take on the load here and essentially operate similarly to RCID (just with shared services agreements). But I’m sure Disney’s lawyers are working up a whole bunch of potential contingencies.
I didn't realize Bay Lake covered the majority of the property - I thought the two were non-inclusive of the entire RCID property. Bay Lake does pose an interesting angle.

We obviously have opposing views of the bill. I am writing what I believe to be the truth and facts. You are choosing something else. I standby it. I am sure you can find other sites that fit your views. This one isn't it.
Honestly, compared to MiceChat, I think this site has done a great job so far of remaining impartial about this situation. I haven't felt alienated by the reporting, despite personally supporting the Parental Rights bill.

If this site is shifting to match MiceChat's editorializing style of reporting, that's unfortunate. This site has always had the reputation—from my experience—of reporting the news and not integrating political viewpoints into its articles. I deeply appreciate this, and I have basically stopped reading MiceChat altogether these days because of 1) Their inability to remove politics from this and just report on stuff and 2) Their newfound praise for everything Disney does.

So thank you for how you have handled this, and please don't start politicking. It's just going to drive people away, and there's no reason to do that.

The market, not the state, should be the one dealing out the “consequences” then.

If you don’t like Disney “acting as a lobbying arm for the DNC” then speak with your wallet. That requires sacrificing something though, which requires principles, which are severely lacking in our current culture.

Instead, it’s much easier to demand the state infringe upon the rights of those we disagree with.
Already done. I’ll miss the fun signs if I ever go back. Green road signs are boring.

I’m missing the 50th, which was unthinkable a few years ago. My Disney points have all expired and my new card doesn’t say Disney on it.

I’m lurking here in the hopes Disney will back off on the politics, because I’d love to go again. I’m hopeful, but not optimistic.

Curious...why did this thread just lose a page?
Because the mods are on another delete-a-thon. Mother warned everyone about sixteen billion times that people are allowed to discuss the Reedy Creek thing and absolutely nothing else and people are still trying to discuss other aspects of this story, which I think is perfectly reasonable, but it’s not my site.

Everything in moderation. As in nothing political or off topic allowed
The thread title begins "Florida Legislators..."

I'm not sure "nothing political" is in the cards.

Personally I'd like to see more tolerance of free-flowing political discussion with bans doled out to users who abuse the privilege. Lots of us disagree, vehemently, while not crossing any serious lines and engaging on real topics.

I'm only hopeful if political post are removed then it's ALL political posts.

Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-A don't get special privileges. If they did, those privileges should be repealed.

Levelling of the playing field is not punishment.
Even if you accept that, surely you recognise that the Florida government has only decided to "level the playing field" now because Disney expressed opposition to its legislation on a particular issue?

Disagree with your reasoning, but respect your stance.

Still, the point stands. The State should not be taking retaliatory measures because you spoke out against them.

Again, stay on topic. Reedy Creek. Not what led up to this, and not how it will have an impact on elections, etc. Just how will it impact WDW, The Disney corporation, the adjacent counties, the state and it's residents, the guests, and the Disney employees.

And please treat other posters with courtesy- even if you think they don't deserve it!

It's not entirely clear how you avoid politics on a topic that is so entirely political....

It’s hard not to be political in a thread that has a political title, but I stopped commenting this morning after the warnings were doled out because I wouldn’t want to be banned from a thread that I’m not allowed to comment on in the first place. 🙄
