Rededication-What does it mean?

Since Nemo keeps getting brought up and I keep trying to leave the subject alone...I'm gonna go for it.

I don't like the Nemo overlay to The Seas. It is annoying that the evil little kid fish keeps wandering away from his Dad and his teacher. These days kids need to stick with their adults so they don't get lost. Does anyone else think Nemo is a bad example and needs a spanking?

Is this some sort of joke?

Do you really hate The Seas with Nemo and Friends for this reason?:veryconfu

I don't see the word hate in my post. I ride it almost every time I go to EPCOT which is at least a dozen times a year. I am bothered by Nemo running off all the time and it being "funny." Maybe the ride is slowly driving me crazy. Maybe it is just my terribly weird sense of humor.

No it is not some sort of joke. Ride it a dozen times and think about it. The entire ride is everyone shouting for this little kid fish that won't behave and stay with his Dad or his school. And then you walk around the parks and kids are on leashes. I just think it is an odd form of entertainment and parents must surely see the irony.

These days kids need to stick with their adults so they don't get lost. Last year I saw a tearful mother looking for her 4 year old that ran off. This was right in front of the Nemo logo. Does anyone else think Nemo is a bad example and needs a spanking?

They could have themed the heck out of the old Living Seas track and just had it go through the aquarium like it used to without Nemo. I really love the technology that has the cartoon fish swimming with the real fish but to constantly have everyone shouting for Nemo and no royal spanking when the Dad finally located him was a let-down.

Couldn't agree more!:sohappy:

THe movie was good, but all these attractions where he continues to get get lost is getting annoying...Epcot and elsewhere.

Nah...THe movie might be cute but I really preferred the Sea Cabs and SeaBase Alpha.

I also forgot to mention the problem that Test Track has...Enderikari,how does TT deal with anything futuristic or progressive? It's just a hyped up proofing ground. To me,it doesn't fit in with Epcot at all.

Care to explain?:)

Granted, I'm not EnderIkari, but I'm going to answer how I feel.

I never realized all that went into safety testing with cars until I stood in that terribly long queue. I especially found the part where they test the force of an accident on the knee to be a shocker! If nothing else Test Track encourages everyone to wear a seatbelt.

Without even getting into the other debates going on here, I have to ask...how on earth did the old name not make sense? The whole reason people love the name "EPCOT Center" is because it had meaning behind it. I'm not even arguing that they bring it back now, but it's the current name--"Epcot"--that is totally nonsensical.

What was the meaning behind EPCOT Center? Do you really want to hearken back to what Walt said, "Experimental Prototype Community (or City, depending on how Walt felt that day) of Tomorrow." It was a city, not a theme park that Walt dreamed of, a place where people could live, work and play in an environment where the newest technologies could be tested and put on display.

Sound like the theme park that I vist often? No? Me either. The only reason the Disney Company called the theme park EPCOT Center, is because people are pretty easily fooled. They had it in their mind that it was Walt's EPCOT, and that was the encouragement they needed to go visit.

So, in other words, Epcot makes as much sense, if not more, than calling it EPCOT Center, an acronym that stood for words, but never meant anything

Well, progress is progress.God knows how many bad drivers are out there.

"Come visit Test Track and we will teach you the common courtesies of driving!"

LOL!

EnderIkari,I believe the community part refers to the World Showcase side of things.

I still like Every Person Comes Out Tired.

I really could not see what Walt wanted EPCOT Center to be from the blurb that I have seen him talk about it. I mean I get the new city, but I don't know how many people would really want to live, work and play there exclusively. I absolutely love the little city that we see when we are on the TTA in Magic Kingdom. That is so cool and is a part of what Horizons was trying to show us. I think the Horizons ride would have been the closest concept ride to Walt's feelings of showing what tomorrow would be like. We just caught up to much of it way too fast!

That's fine, as long as you realize that that is what YOU prefer. Its quite obvious looking at the attendance numbers what the rest of the world prefers.

Well, if you want to look at the advances made in car safety in the last 20 years, and how constant safety checks and tests and new technologies (including air bags, heat/cold/corrosion resistent paints, anti-lock brakes) go towards making the cars safer.
Then you have the exciting part, then in the post show, there is a small attraction which is explains the future of fuels as well as a chassis for a Hydrogen-based fuel cell car...
Progressive enough?

Hehehe...Just kidding. But that does bring up another interesting issue.Where has the futuristic part of Epcot gone? It's rumored to be returning in the new SSE but where in Epcot do we really talk about the future?

I don't know how to answer that. I think we have blown the concept of "the future" completely out of the water. I seriously don't think the idea that humans will live in space shocks or amazes anyone anymore. So depicting this dream is not going to impress anyone. The idea of Mission Space and other attractions showing what we are currently working on, intermixed with hopes, dreams, and new concepts yet to be developed is what will have more staying power and will generate the most interest.

In 1982, futuristic was not all that far from 1950's futuristic. Then the 90's came along and blew the silver suits right off the mouse.

The problem with trying to show the future is that the future keeps happening. Tomorrowland proves to be one of the more difficult lands to have in the Magic Kingdom, because tomorrow turns into yesterday pretty quickly.

The attractions in future world present the things that are happening now which will affect our lives in the near future. Sure, there are attraction meant to inspire creativity, but Epcot focuses more on the world around them and help dream of a better future which is much more grounded in reality.

True, but where is that?M:s makes no mention of it and neither do any other pavillion for that matter...It used to be in Horizons, but that's gone.

You make it sound like ithat futuristic message is blatenly there...But once again, where do ANY of the pavillions say these things?Hopefully this will be depicted in SSE despite the loss of the theme of communication(Yet another thing that's been bothering me.)

Are you a sci-fi nut?

I tend to agree with you that there is a lack of futuristic wonder in EPCOT. Wouldn't it be cool if Test Track had some sort of futuristic ride vehicles? The post show used to be more like that but I really can't remember enough of that part of WOM.

Do you need it to be blatently there? Must a message slap you across the face to be accepted? Look at the Walt quote from above. The first mission is to entertain, then, while someone is being entertained, they don't realize they are learning, they don't realize the message is getting across. Walt specifically stopped making edutainment films, because they were boring his audience, and went back to making entertaining, and enjoyable films.

And how do YOU know what Spaceship Earth is gaining or losing? How was your hard hat walk through? Judging from Project Tomorrow, it seems like worldwide communication is on the forefront of Sieman's and Disney's mind. It may not be the "LISTEN TO ME, I AM TALKING ABOUT COMMUNICATION. HERE IS MY MESSAGE HAMMER." - Jeremy Irons. But, look at what has been added on the bottom floor. Communication is letting surgeons from around the world pool their knowledge and their resources to put back together a human body. Communication is allowing your car to read the road, the road ahead, heck, even the thoughts of the driver to better control a super car of the future. Is it obvious? NO! That's the point. They are games, but they allow the player to dream of the world where the game becomes the reality

SSE will still involve communication. It will still show how human communication is vital in creating a future that is better for everyone...however than show the ENTIRE attraction, we see how human communication serves as a foundation for creativity and technology, thus choosing your ending allows you to explore different possibilites of tomorrow from the blessing of human communication.

Project Tomorrow is a mini Communicore. A community and communication core featuring health, transportation, and soon to be energy, etc.

If anything, the new SSE and project tomorrow will show how the EPCOT Center message of entertain inform insipire, has been updated to the Epcot audience members of today. :)
