Recommended economic cameras for trip

Hi everyone! I see such beautiful pictures on the trip reports and I usually only take my phone for pictures, but now I am interested in buying and taking a camera for my upcoming trip. The only things is, I don't have a big budget set apart for this and was wondering if you could recommend good economic ones. Thanks!:)

A few things. What is the highest you are willing to spend for a camera or camera system.
Are you looking for a point and shoot, interchangeable lens compact (ILC), or DSLR? Is the size of the camera an issue?

Well, I guess a point and shoot? A small camera that takes decent pictures... I am really trying for a 200 or less camera. No interchangeable lenses. Thanks.

I'm not exactly well versed in the point and shoot category. I usually use my phone at that point. There are some nice point and shoots out there though.

I'll have to look into this unless someone pipes up with more knowledge than me.

I would say rather than buying a point and shoot I would just go with the latest model iPhone. iPhone photos can often be mistaken for even DSLR photos. Couple that with some of the apps for manual control and you open up more features than many point and shoot cameras.

I have an iPhone 5S. On my last trip I also had it but some pictures came out blurry. It isn't the latest iPhone, but I guess it is the one before the latest one? I've only had it for a year and can't upgrade yet on my contract...

Do you own one?

Do you own one?
Yes. Actually it is my wife's camera. I have a big, bulky DSLR with vertical grip and two batteries, multiple lenses, remote shutter, several filters etc...but we both prefer the little Canon Digital Elph for several reasons.
It is very small and easy to carry in a pocket or purse. It is well built. It is very light. It takes excellent pictures. It has a long zoom range. It has image stabilization. It costs just a tad over $100 and is worth every penny.
It just works nicely and is very affordable. I don't see how you could go wrong with it.

Keep in mind that your iPhone very likely has a camera that is as good as many budget P&S cameras out there. Most issues come from simply expecting more out of them than is possible. Lots of people try to do night time/dark ride pictures at WDW, and unless you have a tripod, or a camera that shoots in high ISO/fast shutter you will get blur. Look into some of the alternative camera apps that offer you more control than the built in one, and maybe even a small iPhone tripod to stick on top of trashcans.

I purchased a Nikon Coolpix for my vacation in 2012, and used it again in 2013. After doing extensive research, I settled on this brand/style because it's compact, lightweight, and gave me the most "bang for my buck" with features and extra capabilities.

During my trips it took way better photos than my iPhone4 and iPhone5, had excellent optical zoom to really capture the finer details, and had great built-in settings to capture the fireworks, low-light shots, and active moments during the parades - no blurry shots! I also loved that it could shoot video, and the recorded sound and video quality was excellent when we played it back on our tv at home.

Most of the Coolpix styles are under $200, but being Cyber Monday, you can find them for even cheaper. I'd recommend checking out Nikon's website first (all the details, and they have a great sale going on today), then seeing which stores might be able to beat their price.

Can't wait to hear what you picked!

Good advice. The Nikon Coolpix is similar in quality and price to the Canon we use.

My only fault with the main information is that it only has a 5x optical zoom. That isn't very much in the grand scheme of things.
