Recommended economic cameras for trip

Hi everyone! I see such beautiful pictures on the trip reports and I usually only take my phone for pictures, but now I am interested in buying and taking a camera for my upcoming trip. The only things is, I don't have a big budget set apart for this and was wondering if you could recommend good economic ones. Thanks!:)

Nikon makes several different models under the Coolpix name. This is not the best choice, based on specs. 5x zoom is not much. Does it have image stabilization, metal body, etc...?

Here is the actual posting from Walmart.

It does have image stabilization but how good it is I don't know. I'm not overly impressed but what can you say for a 50 dollar camera.

It was originally $100.00...I could just use my iPhone 5s but the storage runs out fast and I don't travel with my laptop and don't like using the Cloud. Any recommendations? Thank you all !

The main thing for me was the optical zoom - it really makes a difference. My camera has 10x optical zoom and an additional 4x digital zoom.

I bought my camera in the fall of 2012, so it is no longer made. But here is the link to the original product page of it if it helps at all. http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-pr...e/compact-digital-cameras/coolpix-s6300.html#

The updated versions of this camera will be even better than the one I currently have. Look for a high optical zoom, and good image stabilization - these will be your best friends. Additional features you will need, such as nighttime or action settings for fireworks and parades, should be pretty much standard by now.

While it's not the exact same camera as mentioned above, the S3700 is s great little camera! If you take LOTS of pictures (like I do), I would recommend buying at least an 8gb memory card, and an extra camera battery. (Always the extra battery, I missed out on a lot of great moments because my camera battery died around 6pm one night.)

Red! A girl after my own heart! One of my requirements was that my camera be red. It's a beautiful red in person, too - you will love it!!

Do you have a 16gb iPhone? Or a 64gb?

Yay! Another fellow red lover :inlove: I really like that camera! My iPhone 5s is the 16gb one. What to do...what to do...

Trust me: buy the camera. It will be easier, and you won't have to worry about running out of storage space, or be spending a lot of time transferring photos to another device (which I don't think you said you were going to be bringing) or to the cloud over the slow wifi at the hotels.

Not to mention that the quality of pictures/videos taken will be MUCH better. Comparing the photos I took with my camera vs the ones with my iPhone 4/5...there simply is no comparison. If you had the iPhone 6s/6s+ that might be a different story, but the 5s just doesn't have the camera quality (or the storage space) to best capture all the magical moments you're going to have at the World!

Also, if I were to only use my iPhone, how do you store pictures during a vacation? I run out of space quickly!

Plenty of options. Use your iCloud photo stream, get an account on Shutterfly/Flickr/Google Photos/etc, have Amazon Prime? - Prime Members get free photo storage. I upload my pics at least once a day. Having them stored at one of those locations stands alot better chance of the pictures making it home than having them all on a single memory card that can get lost/damaged/etc. But personally I maintain 3 copies of what I shoot with my DSLR, on card, on HDD, and uploaded to my photo host. (I'm a smidge paranoid)

The Nikon Coolpix looks like a decent choice, at first glance.

If you're not going to use your phone, you should at least choose a camera that does things your phone does not. An iPhone takes great basic pictures, but a proper camera can be good for zooming, night shots, etc.

Thank you all, I will make a decision this weekend. I am still tempted to but the 46 dollar one because it seems better than what my phone offers. As for my phone, I really don't like using the Cloud storage...I think I'll get a camera and a couple of memory cards and hope for the best.
