I have always trusted Garmin. Very easy interface and setting up the watch. Not sure if they have a cheap option, but I got my 305 on Amazon during a huge sale for $200. They are a little more regularly, and I think the 405 is much more. Look at their website to see.

Good luck.

My 305 is about 2 years old and it slips on the mileage sometimes, but I think that is to be expected especially on trail, since the path you take can be very tight in turns and twists etc, and from my knowledge of how these watches work, they ping the GPS every X amount of seconds, so mine will be off sometimes.

Im not sure if this is the norm or not. I know @Donald Duck had a 305, and now has the 405, so he might have some insight on this issue too. I have been up to 1 mile off after 25+ miles. Luckily, on the short end. So I actually ran farther than my watch said.

I have a 210 and I really like it. I snagged it in November (I think) and got a $50 rebate, so it came out to $150ish.

I think the cheapest Garmin option right now is the Forerunner 10 - $129.99. A co-worker of mine has one and likes it.

For Christmas my wife purchased me a Garmin Forerunner 110 (I believe this is their entry level watch). This is my first GPS watch and I have absolutely loved it. It has become my everyday watch.

A couple of weeks ago I lent it to a friend so that he could use it during his 1/2 marathon. I didn't get it back for 4 or 5 days and felt totally naked without it. Once you get one of these watches you'll never want to leave home without it.

:o Holy crap! That's a deal right there. I haven't seen that watch under $300 for years.

@imagination30 : When looking at the Garmins make sure you pay attention to certain features that you may or may not want. Some come with a heart rate monitor and some do not. Some measure current pace only, average pace only, or have the option to switch between the two. Some have a better battery life than others, etc. All of the affects pricing. For example...

When I was looking for a new Garmin (had the 305, really liked it, but it started to hurt my wrist like crazy...I mean, it would ACHE after runs) I was between the 10 and 210.

The FR10 does not come with a heart rate monitor, shows current pace only, and the battery life is 5 hours.

The 210 has a HR monitor option (I didn't get that one), shows current OR average pace, and the battery life is 8 hours.

I chose the 210 because of the battery life and the current/average pace option - I use the average pace option more often than the current pace option, so I'm glad I got this one over the 10. Compare that to the 110 which shows lap pace but not current pace...lots of different options and subtle differences.

What did you do with your 305? Im scared my battery life is an indicator that it is getting ready to die. Battery life supposedly up to 10 hours, I get 5-6.

Sold it on eBay. :D I forget how much it went for...definitely at least $100, almost enough to cover my 210 when I brought it. I originally paid $150 for it and had it for 2-3 years so I was happy with that.

I will chime in and say that I love my Garmin 410.

You just need to decide what's important to you in a watch...
I have recently fallen in love of my virtual partner option on my 410, when I have a certain goal time in mind for a race I can set it and let it do the work so I don't have to calculate splits or check in for my pace every mile. It tells me I am two seconds ahead of my desired pace and I can push a bit harder to make sure I beat my goal every single time.

I had never heard of Soleus before this article...

Correction @joel_maxwell, I had the 305, but I have been using the Garmin fenix for about 8 months now. It's a fantastic gps with loads of info, but ironically, not a 'runner's watch.' Really suited to hiking and ultra-distance.

I have friends who have the 410 and love it. Check it out, or try a few models out.

That is right. The fenix. That is why it isnt under the "running" section of Garmin. Its under Trails.

I'm going to echo all the Garmin love on this thread. I have this model- http://www.rei.com/product/850917/garmin-forerunner-210-gps-fitness-monitor-white

I knew I wanted a Garmin, thought the 210 was probably right for me, and when I saw that white & lime green beauty, how could I say no? :)

I have not had any troubles with my GPS after about two months of frequent use. I have used it everywhere from my subdivision to the mountains and it's worked equally well. And the battery life is pretty good! I charge it every few days and never run out of battery that way.

well we have a winner , iam now the owner of a Nb nx510 , we found it at sports athority for 76

Wow that is cheap, I almost bought a watch and a pair of Hokas when I was in Florida but the idea of not having somewhere local to go to if I had problems made me reconsider. I was looking at a nice garmin for about 140 or 150. something like that.
