These are for people who can drop that kind of money without flinching. Millionaires in the hundreds of millions and billionaires. Its like criticizing Ferraris and yachts. People will buy them. That's capitalism. If Disney can get that dough, good for them. (As a fan of the parks I'd rather see that money spent elsewhere, but ah well)

Actually, residents get all the benefits of resort guests and more. EMH and purchases delivered to the Summerhouse are among the benefits listed:

http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/goldenoak/pdf/GO-DCI -FY14-FINAL.pdf

Interesting, but I don't consider those really as 'benefits' anymore. Never have I needed purchase delivery, and EMH has gotten out of control with hour reductions and lines growing even longer than they are during standard operating hours.

I've tried 3 times and the file starts but never completes loading for me, does it detail the swimming and recreation areas? Transportation? Viewing locations for watching Wishes? I'll assume they have some sort of a work out center with a pool, is it featured? Is there concierge? How much stuff do they price out separately from home ownership and the typical community fees?

The folk I know who can afford these homes would never look twice at them, simply because they know how to spend/save money the smart way.

Everything you'd want to know in answer to your questions:

That's where I got the link you can't open, so I have no idea what you'll be able to see or not.

I couldn't live there.. TOO close to the magic and having to deal with tourists every day. We like using DVC and going 2 or 3 times a year for 4-6 days at a time... gives you a taste but doesn't give you time to get bored. (even tho there is so much to do)

C'mon folks. These babies are priced to move. Starting at only 1.8 million...It'd be like living at Bushwood from "Caddyshack".

Golden Oak is another amazing money grab by Disney ... I looked at homes there last year. To say they cut corners and provide a crappier product wrapped in Disney marketing Pixie Dust would be putting it mildly.

I know if I bought the $3 million plus home I was looking at, I'd want walls so paper thin that you can hear someone's bodily functions from throughout the home ... and that I'd want to be able to look out a window right across into my neighbor's and I'd want a pool that got crowded if two people were swimming in it at once etc ... only Disney, only Disney.

People who buy here either have mental illness, no sense for money or some other agenda.

If I were to win the lottery I'd be in Golden Oak in a heartbeat. I can't fathom getting "tired" or "burnt out" when it comes to WDW.

As it stands, my retirement plans are to purchase a vacation home in the vicinity (not quite Golden Oak, but I'll be happy) and winter at WDW. I'll still spend my summers in Canada.

I would do the same thing but winters would be here on long island. I cant leave my broadway shows.

OK am I reading this correctly?

For each closing on a homesite or completed home by December 31, 2014, the household will receive five complimentary Golden Oak Resident Passes each year for three years. Each Golden Oak Resident Pass includes One Premium Annual Pass and separately, five additional one-day Theme Park tickets.

So for the $25,000 HOA dues they only get 5 Premium Annual pass for 3 years? I thought it was one of the perks that they got for living there to have a PAP every year.

I think the issue is the fine print where they say:

"An updated and revised Disney Connection will be available to all Golden Oak Residents on January 1, 2015. Golden Oak Development, LLC and its affiliates make no commitment that the elements, offers, amenities, entitlements, benefits, privileges and services which comprise the 2014 Disney Connection will be included in the updated and revised Disney Connection."
I.e., they get to decide each year what you get for benefits. So maybe the "three years" thing is to say that the passes, at least, will continue for the next three years? I assume the benefits will be great until all the houses are sold. Of course, someone in the market to spend >= $1.8 million on one of these homes presumably won't even think twice about the cost of an annual pass.

According to the current terms those 5 passes are in addition to the one annual pass that each home receives each year.

I have lived in O-town for almost a year now.

15 minutes away from Disney is close enough. Besides, the closer you are to Disney, the further from real things. I would much rather drive 15 minutes to a theme park that 15 minutes to a haircut. Or a grocery store. Or a Burger King.
Haha, if you can live in Golden Oak you have someone else bring your food to you. Oh if only!

If you could afford to live in Golden Oaks, why would you want to? For that kind of money you could afford a decent home almost anywhere you wanted and have money left over for long vacations at a luxury WDW hotel whenever you felt like it. Maid service, meals out, room service, etc.

For that kind of money I would want total control over what gets built. Sound proofing would be high on the list. This isn't Manhattan so it would annoy me to be looking right in my neighbors windows. Not like Disney is lacking for land.
You can, to a point. The ARB has to approve the design, which is required in pretty much any subdivision built in the US, but "the walls" are dictated by building code and your wallet.
