I'm not sure if I understand what the head of "direct to consumer" actually does. It doesn't sound like anything related to theme park operation, however. I'm worried that Bob "consumer products" Chapek + Rebecca "direct to consumer" Campbell probably = more shops in the Main Street theater type of decisions (and less entertainment, and more cheap overlays, and.. and.. and...).

Someone please tell my I'm totally wrong in my fears.

Another product person in charge at Disneyland.

This should surprise no one since Parks & Resorts and Consumer Products are under the same business unit. Today the parks serve as an extension of Disney's collection of brands all wrapped up in live experiences for consumers. Simply put Disneyland is basically an elaborate venue/infomercial for popular Disney stuff.

basically what this is. we're in for rough seas ahead, disneylanders...

Who knows at this point? Remember, Josh was a total unknown who had very little theme park experience. Basically he was a finance and strategic planning guy who after two decades eventually got promoted into a park VP role which put him in the running for the Disneyland gig. He just happened to also be personable and kind and genuine, and since that was such a change of pace from his immediate predecessor it was even more noticeable.

Much like Josh would have been a few years ago, Rebecca Campbell is a total unknown. And just like Josh, her resume doesn't instill a lot of confidence and presents more questions than it does answers. But who knows? Ms. Campbell may also be kind and genuine like Josh, with a stylish flair and an eye for detail that before she ran Disneyland she could only train on home remodeling and dinner party tabletop decor. She may be perfect for Disneyland while she manages up to Chapek who has no such talents.

Or, Ms. Campbell may be a complete train wreck. She may be snobby and elitist, which is exactly what you don't want in a leader who oversees 30,000 employees who are almost exclusively blue collar working class folks who don't respond well to elites. She may have zero people skills and allow an intern to fill her public statements with cliche' and meaningless buzzwords. She may have zero interest in Disneyland and just slash and cut the place to shreds per Mr. Chapek's demands. She may do the usual two week tour PR blitz in the parks, and then hide out in TDA for the next three years and never be seen until she quits in 2023 to go work at Time-Warner.

No one knows. But her current title is a head scratcher.
Rebecca Campbell was appointed President, The Walt Disney Company – Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in January 2018. Disney EMEA seeks to leverage its integrated structure to continue to drive growth, innovation and brand affinity across this extremely diverse collection of countries.

Huh? What does that even mean? 🧐

I adjusted Ms. Campbell's existing title that I quoted above to reflect her new duties. It makes more sense now.

Rebecca Campbell was appointed President, The Walt Disney Company – Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Star Wars Land,Toon Town, Critter Country, New Orleans Square, Pixar Pier, Cars Land, Grizzly Peak, Hollywood Land, Buena Vista Street, Downtown Disney & Three Aging Hotels (MAFFTSTCNPCGHDD3AH) in September 2019. Disney MAFFTSTCNPGCHDD3AH seeks to leverage its integrated structure to continue to drive growth, innovation and brand affinity across this extremely diverse collection of lands, aging hotels, and a mall.

Welcome to Anaheim Ms. Campbell! Don't screw this up. :D

So, the last few hours have been interesting.

Lots of phone calls and e-mails.

I have been trying to find out about Rebecca, and most of that info comes from when she was running KABC and other stations here in SoCal. (Her real background has been running TV stations). Nothing much, nice person, does a good dog and pony show, etc...

But the talk is really about Bob Chapek. Basically the board/Iger have been saying, We like what you are doing with Merchandise, but something has to be done about the parks.

You said, give me some money to invest in the parks, and I will give you back a good ROI... Well, Bob, the parks are not doing that.. Something has to be done, NOW!

Chapek knew that he wasn't giving up the ship. So he had to find someone to be the fall person, and he picked someone who was getting a good ROI from DL Paris. So he had to do more, so let rearrange the deck chairs, and that happened today.

Josh is getting a promotion, one expected in a year or two. (The Anaheim folks didn't expect it until 2021).

Why was Rebecca picked? Why did she leave her true knowledge TV after 20 years to join PEP??? I can't get a clear answer, at least not yet... Sometimes it takes time to learn the real story.

A lot of the talk is Bob Chapek comments about SWGE, aka, Nothing to look at here..... Well, Bob, folks are not buying that...

But to be honest, who out there can step into Bob Chapek's shoes right now? And that question is an important one to answer. Nobody from FOX fits the role....

So I hope to learn more about the new DLR president very soon.

But in reality, it is a secondary story....

I can always count on you and @TP2000 to come in with solid information.

What a big surprise that people are finally talking about sleazy Chapek and what he's done to the parks to damage their reputation. I didn't like him from the start. Almost like a facepalm moment for me to hear that others (in higher places, at least) are just now starting to get the skepticism.

If only I was offered some sort of say in what should happen next..

Before the merge with Parks & Resorts, the consumer products team was broken up into the North America, EMEA, and Asia groups. I don't know how it will play out at DLR, but the Europe based stores/employees were alot less centralized and homogeneous then NA. Working with the EMEA team was different due to the language barriers.

EMEA is used often for international business.
