Reasons why a short trip is still worth it...

Hi!

I went to WDW with my daughter during Christmas and stayed with relatives in Orlando. It was great, but since we stayed with relatives, I feel we didn't get the full Disney Experience. I am a teacher and I have a short vacation from March 31 to April 5 and I am really wondering if I should stay with her in a Disney hotel during those days. The thing is, I have to fly to Orlando, so I am not sure if it is worth it. Please help me make a decision. Thank you all! :angelic:

When would you go in summer? We go in the end of august often. The crowds are low(er),the rates are cheap(er) and the weather is awesome. Then again, seeing as we have -10 windchill and 7 foot snow drifts in Boston, I'd say 95 degrees would be just fine. But seriously, we don't mind the heat. If you mind, don't go in summer. If not, an awesome time.

So is it hot, like Florida I'm melting hot in Boston during the summer? If so, I'll trade places with you. I'm done with the Florida summers, so you can have my place in Florida in the summer and I'll takes your's in Mass. And drag my Yankee loving daughter to a few Sox games.

Now the deal is just for summer. I'm staying in Florida during the winter but will send you warm thoughts. ;)

More humid in Florida in the summer than boston, but often very similar temps. We've had quite a few summer vacations in Florida where we see that it is hotter in boston while we are in Florida. The difference is not everywhere here has AC in boston. EVERYWHERE in Florida seems to, especially wdw.

Trust me, stick with Florida. 2 hours of snow blowing today just to get the cars out of the driveway.

I said I would stay in Florida during the winter. Visited family in Colorado at Christmas. That was enough snow for me. :)

Grew up in Southern CA. No AC. Gets hot, but it's dry. And the nice thing, unlike Florida, it cools down at night. Depressing to go to bed at 11:00pm and it's still in the 80s.

Too bad you can't store that snow and ship it down here in August.

So somewhat off topic. Is Boston really pushing to get the 2024 games? What does the average Bostonian think?

My wife was complaining about the snow and ice last night. I told her no snow and ice in Florida. She just glared at me, but reluctantly agreed. I really hope we move down to Florida soon. I hate snow. Maryland is ok, but I hate winter.

We don't want them. The chaos will be unfathomable. But we might be able to rent out our house for 5 or 10k during the games as we are just a 15 min train ride to north station, less than 8 miles. That is when the trains actually run at all!

If they come, we will be far away from here when they come...

Not knowing your finances, I can't tell you if it's worth it in that regard, but otherwise, yes it is totally worth it. We live 1000 miles away and will fly in for a long weekend, flying in Thursday after work and taking last flight out on Monday night, so we essentially get four days. For us, it's 100% worth. We do it about once a year. We are doing it for a cruise this year. I am a teacher too, so I totally understand your situation.

Well, I am used to warm temperature. I live in Puerto Rico :). I have the money, what I am worried about is: will I regret going for such a short period of time? I have gone during the summer when I was younger and I do remember the heat was terrible. Here in Puerto Rico there is heat, but with tropical winds. In Florida, it's so humid that the heat really makes you feel like you can't breathe. But I do miss it being warm enough in WDW to wear shorts (last times I've visited it's been during Christmas break). I also kind of feel like a spoiled kid, not wanting to wait and wanting to go right back...NOW! Oh well. I guess Disney really is the only place it's still ok to
feel like a kid :p....

Then, I say totally go for it! We love our "fast and furious" trips! There are always such great escapes from reality and because I have to go back to work the next day, I don't have time to suffer from "Disney Depression" that I have when we return home from our June trip. I love the weather more too. Have a wonderful trip!

Most of our trips are short trips. We live 3.5 hours away so we can do it. We go for long weekends when the kids have a Friday or Monday off from school. We'll do it a few times a year. We get to do plenty. You can do plenty if you plan.

I've never gone in April! :) I wonder what I should pack...hmm...
Florida weather is unpredictable. You can still have some cool mornings but it can get warm in the afternoon. You'll have to check the ten day forecast as you get closer to know what to expect.

My parents had the same thought during the 1984 LA games - rent the house out for 5k a week (gotta love those LA rental prices) and GET OUT OF TOWN! The folks across the street did that - not sure how much they got for renting their house for a couple of weeks - and my parents lived miles from any of the venues.

Shorts, t-shirts, 1 pair of long pants and a jacket. It will be nice during the day - 70s or low 80s - not as humid, but maybe cool in the evening - 60s. And don't forget the poncho. We always go at the end of April. One week, though, it was a little chilly during the day (60s), so I was glad to have a pair of long pants. The weather is beautiful in April.

I just booked a 4 night trip in March - arrive on Thursday and leave on Monday. That will be plenty of time for us to see what we want.

If you are uncomfortable with the humidity, April is a better bet. Worth it is a very subjective thing and cant be measured except by the individual. From what I am reading, I don't think you'd regret it in terms of a financial or time so I would go ahead with it. Marie

Well, coming from the St. Louis area where we get our share of 100+ heat and high humidity...summer days at Disney are better than summer days in STL...as much as I love my Cards I'd rather be sweating in MK than in Busch Stadium.

As a teacher, I am on my way to Disney for a short trip (usually we do Christmas and/or Summer for 8 - 14 days). This trip will be Weds to Monday...with theme park days Thurs - Monday and leaving on ME at 5 PM. I will land in STL around 10 PM home by 11 PM and up for work at 5 AM. But it will be totally worth it to me. Will it be the same as a summer trip? nope. But it will be just as magical, in a different way.

Ultimately the choice is yours. But I'd say go for the Flower and Garden Festival and your birthday and stay on site if you can swing it financially.

I have always done at least 7 day trips to Disney my whole life until this past October. We checked in on Thursday, October 16 and checked out Monday, October 20. I was skeptical at first too but it was one of the best trips I have been on. We did MNSSHP Thursday night, Epcot all day Friday with a mid-day 2 hour break at Downtown Disney, Magic Kingdom all day Saturday with a mid-day 2 hour nap, and split Sunday with Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the evening. We literally rode and did everything we wanted. The only downfall is there's not enough hours to eat everything you want to! haha

There is nothing wrong with splurging on your family and yourself once in awhile. Some of my best trips were lets just go an make it up as we go along. It will be warm and close to Easter and very colorful. Did I mention that you will be in WDW if you choose to go. You will have a great time and make some memories along the way. God forbid you might even laugh and have a great time. Then the down side is the lousy food and not so many places to eat. I know reservations are needed but the times I was doing the same thing you are planning we found things and restaurants to seat us. Swimming is wonderful and so is going to another resort to eat as well. I am so sorry that you might have to go and have a great time. Honestly, if you can afford it then go.

I agree a shorter trip is better than no trip at all. I'm used to going for two weeks with my family, it's been our tradition for 10 years. But this year, now that I'm in college and have a job, my schedule only allows for me to go for 6 days. Six days is better than no Disney vacation at all.
