Wow! I don't even remember this! Wow! At EPCOT ... political speeches!:p
Obama's done it, but over at Magic Kingdom.

And then there was this, a press conference done in the Contemporary ballroom.

And then there is this...A compilation of multiple visits of various presidents.

Note Reagan flying in behind American Adventure...that would have been awesome to see!

Now its not, lets vote for the person who has the ability to do the best for the country or who has the best ideas to improve the condition of the country but who looks and sounds the best. The media pushes the candidate they prefer and tries to sway the voters, instead of getting the facts out and let the voters have an informed choice. Too many voters have no idea what the candidates on either side stand for, have in their background or are most likely to do once in office. Now its like voting for the popular high school prom King & Queen.

I really don't get the thing that Obama is supposed to be such a fantastic public speaker. I just don't see it. Compare him and Reagan in those videos, and Reagan is just so much better at it. And I don't mean that politically either. I'd say the same thing about Bill Clinton. Just so much more naturally charismatic than Obama, IMHO.

People actually felt inspired when Reagan spoke. He talked about what we could accomplish as individuals, not what government was going to hand us - which is what most politicians focus on now. He was comforting in times of national crisis, and used his words to unite us. I'll never forget watching him after the Challenger disaster, when he said the crew "slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God." He spoke directly to children, let us know that the future belongs to the brave, and the crew died trying to push us into the future. No one speaks like that anymore. No one tries to inspire or comfort or bring anyone together. Now, it's all about bringing the other side down in an attempt to get votes. Nothing inspiring about that.

The Challenger speech is my all time favorite speech from any president! He was such an optimist, I always thought of EPCOT when he made his "shining city upon a hill" comments. Of course he opened Disneyland and was a friend of Walt's so EPCOT is a very fitting place for him to visit.

I practically have that speech memorized, I've watched it so many times. I was a nine year old wannabe astronaut back then, I needed to hear his words that day. Seeing him speak in front of SSE in the inaugural address gives me chills, such an incredibly perfect backdrop.
