Just finished Somewhere Beyond the Sea.

It's the sequel to House in the Cerulean Sea. I loved both books. They are full of humor and love and the whole message is one of equality and of everyone belonging. The children are absolutely charming, if perhaps sometimes a little mischievous. I can't really go into it too much without spoilers, but basically it's an orphanage with magical children. The government is not good at protecting magical children and doesn't necessarily believe that magical children should be protected anyway. When the orphanage is being inspected, some interesting things happen.

It's one of my favorite books. So much fun! I read it for book club last year and loved it, so I was really excited when the sequel came out. I highly recommend it if you liked House in the Cerulean Sea.

I just finished this one last night! Lots of laughs, lots of tears - I loved it.

Finished Orbital for Book Club. It was….. interesting- in the way most award winning books are….some of us missed (what the author says was) the point - some of us got it. Almost all of us struggled to finish the book.
Don’t be fooled by the tiny size - it’s a big effort to get through it!

Just finished 11.22.63 by Stephen King. I've never read Stephen King before. I started to read one when I was about 13, and I didn't get past the first chapter before it freaked me out and I decided he isn't for me. But this one wasn't so thriller-y. All I knew about it was that it's about the JFK assassination. I always enjoy a book when it makes me want to look things up and learn more about something, so I really liked this. I learned a lot about people involved with the Oswald Family and other things that happened. For example, I never knew that Oswald had tried to assassinate another politician in April of the same year.

If you like historical fiction, this might be a good one. It also has some dystopian elements to it, and some fantasy elements...or would time travel be more considered science fiction? In any case, it was an interesting read. It's a pretty hefty book, which I don't mind, but I know a lot of people prefer not to embark on something that size, so fair warning.

On to Lemony Snickets for book club.

Anyone else get the new Emily Henry? I haven't read it yet, but I'll do that after I finish Lemony Snickets. The Lemony snickets books only take a couple of hours each, but there are 13 of them. I believe I'm on #8 now?

The new Emily Henry made me think of Disney. Great Big Beautiful Life.

That's my next read! I plan to finish up my current Kristin Hannah book ("Home Front") and then I'll start the new Emily Henry. I had considered saving it until we're at the beach in a few weeks, but I just can't wait.

I just finished the Lemony Snicket series. I am so frustrated. I strongly do not recommend it. The first few books are fun and light...everything is over the top and you understand exactly what is happening and can even predict that it's going to happen. Somewhere about half way through, that starts to change. The books get longer and the things that happen are a little less....active, I guess? Things become more muddled, there are more things that go unexplained, and storylines don't get resolved by the end of each book, so things are carried on over several books. By the end, there are so many things that you expect to be explained, loose ends to be tied up, but they never are. It appears that they changed that for the Netflix series. But the book series is disappointing.

Now I'm moving on to the Emily Henry book because I need something more fun.

I read one of her books (something vacation) and wasn’t too impressed. I have been thinking of giving her another go since so many people enjoy her books. Would this be a good one to read or another?
“People We Meet on Vacation” was her first, and ranks pretty low on my list. I’d recommend either “Funny Story” (last year’s release) or “Great Big Beautiful Life.”
