Read an interesting Eisner quote today. From Forbes 11.13.02:

"during the course of questioning by mediator Ken Auletta of The New Yorker magazine, Eisner praised several Disney properties, particularly the flagship Disney brand and sports cable channel ESPN. He called them "differentiated products" and said that when he looked into the future he could see them "20 to 25 years down the road."

Wow. That sort of made me sit up straight. Eisner only sees these brands existing 20-25 years?...greaaaaat.

Can you imagine how they would close down WDW? Like, how would that look like...all run down and stuff? I think that would be crazy that possibly in our lifetimes WDW would be no more.

p.s. also found out Eisner has taken in about a billion dollars over the last twenty years, 740 million in just a five year span (96-01).
Wow...loyalties huh! Or is that royalties!

O.k. what would you do with a billion? I'd create my own theme park that's what I do...I'd re-invest back into the parks...like WDW....spend at least 500 million in total improvements everywhere...just make it a shangri-la...oh well...

What is Eisner doing with all that money? Rainy day slush fund?

AUGH!!!!!!! There is not a font large enough to voice my frustration with the selective interpretation of that quote!
Can anybody find the rest of that interview, and/or offer a different perspective (I can, I just don't feel like it now... )

While I am not in the habit of defending Mike, I really don't think he meant that the way you've interpreted it. I took it to mean he could see those brands lasting quite a while. You know, not ONLY 25 years, but AT LEAST 25 years.

I'm not in the habit of defending Mr. Eisner, but lets cut some slack. In business talk, more than 10 years is a lifetime, so 25 is an eternity. Most products have a long lifetime of 5 years...so in business speak he is talking forever.

And this is the problem with some of the people posting on these boards...they don't realize to treat Disney as a business is to destroy the business of Disney.

Then why doesn't he say forever...

And, I've never heard a lifetime considered 10 years, even in a business.

And Disney... We've been around more then 75 years, and we're not going to stop creating. As long as there is Imagination left in the world, Disney will continue to exist, and exist well at that. Unfortunately, Mr. Eisner got on Journey into YOUR Imagination... but the attraction was broken, and wiped out Eisner's Imagination. Hey, Disney! Wanna save a few bucks? Build an empty warehouse and put a "Tram" through it. Call it Journey into Eisner's Imagination. lol.

obviously he's spending it on lessons in fortune telling and psychic readings...."when he looked into the future"...so i guess that would explain his crappy management over the years.

Mike ehh, on first name terms with "Mike", one of his island trained evil henchmen I bet

 It's part of the Disney culture that everyone goes by their first names. Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet that it irks Mike to be put on the same level as an hourly, even if it's only in that one respect. So I call him by his first name.

Interestingly, I've met Greg Emmer and Lee Cockerell, both of whom introduced themselves by their first name only (Actually, with Greg it was "Hello, I'm Greg. I'm the vice president of this park":) ), but on meeting Paul Pressler, he intorduced himself as "Paul Pressler". Kinda shows you who subscribes to which way of thinking.
