I think the "who goes to bed at 7?" a low blow. Disney parks, even in the off season never closes before 7....and even by chance they do, there's a TON more things to do! I hate universal for these commercials alone (not to mention the clientele that attends that park....makes it like my local Six Flags Great Adventure)
The funniest part about it is that most nights the Disney parks (except AK) are open much later than the US and IOA. Tonight for example MK closes at 10:00, Epcot at 9:00, and MGM at 8:30 all with a firework show at closing. While both IOA and US will be closing at:

Wait for the irony-

7:00. With no fireworks.

Makes you wonder what they were thinking when they made that commercial.

I do think these ads are just strange -- I don't see them being effective. I really don't think they are going to steal away the bread and butter repeat visitors from WDW -- nor do I think it would convince someone that doesn't enjoy a "theme park" vacation to go there.

That being said they aren't bad parks, they just aren't Disney. I've been to both of them once. I may go back in another six or seven years. IMO

When I saw this commercial, it just makes me hate Universal even more. And why did they had to use children for the commercial? I prefer to hug princesses than just walking around a park that doesn't cause any good impression on me as Disney parks make me feel. They know they don't have the spark that causes people to return as Disney parks have, and they just want to attract more people to them.
Think about this: if the commercials do their work, the annoying families with spoiled brats will be leaving Disney parks to be at Universal. This leaves a more pleasure experience for us who will continue going to Disney.
Besides, I loved my first time in Disney when I was 3, and I keep loving Disney at 34, and even more with my daughter, who is a Disney lover in training.

Shows you the intelligence their marketing department has... Shrek and Donkey are smarter...

Me and my family enjoy Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure....

While we do not visit those parks as frequently as we visit WDW, we still like them. Personally I've been bothered by people in the WDW crowd, more than by people in the Uni crowd....and while some differences are evident, most of the people visiting these parks in Orlando are on a family vacation.

Stop resisting the temptation...visit Universal Orlando. :D

Maybe you been bothered by people in Disney because there are actually people there.. You can walk through Universal without bumping elbows with someone cause no one goes.... And well, low attendance compared to high attendance, what does that say?? More people prefer Disney... Sorry, Universal stinks and you can take that to the bank.

For the record, I have no beef with Universal itself, or that people want to go there. My beef is with low-blow adverts like this.

Commercials like these really show that Disney has class and...well...Universal sometimes doesn't. A head-on negative assault against the competition is not a good idea in a business like this. It only leaves a bad taste in your customers' mouths. I'll echo others in saying that Universal should instead focus on what makes their parks good, rather than shouting about the inadequicies they perceive or want others to believe about Disney. It only makes them look like they're having a temper tantrum.

And just what would they focus on?? A ride that had more hype than action (Mummy)?? Rides that are 20 years too old and not interesting??? Oh yea, Shrek... They know they have nothing so they need to attack others. Pathetic commercials from a pathetic park...

Hmmm...perhaps I should re-phrase that...

Admittedly, I have been to Universal only once--many years ago and before IOA opened. I've not had the desire to return. Since I'll be in the area for about 6 months this year, I'll probably head to this "other park" and see what's up (I'm particularly interested in Spiderman).

Anway, I digress...the park still does get millions of visitors every year, so there must be something "good" about it that they can talk about in their ads. If not, perhaps they should focus on building something they truly can brag about.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again.
The commercials paint this picture...
Disney: Families who like having fun together.
Universal: Bratty kids who would rather be shot in the face than be seen with their little brother and their mommy.
 :brick:

I take it you've never been to DL or the MK then?

Yeah, certainly no one goes there, which is why attractions like Dueling Dragons and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man have had 75-120 minute waits over the past few weeks.

Look at me, I can freely move my arms because no one is here!

Who wouldnt want to hug one of the Princess's. I do everytime I take a picture with one of them. I was at Universal back in May and there was really no one there. We did both parks in one day and did everything that we wanted to do. It is really not Disney though. People there are rude, it was really stinky, and if a ride broke down no one knew because there was no one there to tell us. (I waited for the ET ride 3 different times.) However I do like the coasters that they have there. They are more extreme than Disney rides, but there is much less of a story behind them. I didnt like being there, either did she, but we will go back in the future once they open up another huge ride. I did find it funny that they have started the pin trading now too. There were only a few carts, that I remember, but it was such a rip off that I could only laugh. We have done both Universal parks now twice and if it didnt have the Hulk, Spiderman, and the Mummy it would be on par with Six Flags in Chicago. However, I know that a lot people compare the parks to Six Flags but, I am a Hulk fan so it gains some points. I also remember that every person that worked at Universal, get ready for this shocking bit, was ugly. Not oh you will grow out of it ugly, but like you just ran away from maw's farm after being locked up for 18 years with your brother ugly. I am sure that is an out of line comment but it is true. How can I enjoy a place with no smiles, rip offs of Disney, and no Snow White

These threads always make me laugh. I don't understand how people can't see how great Universal is because they are so blinded by love of Disney.

The truth is, there are many parents that have families that don't want the sappy magical vacation and would rather just have some great, thrilling rides in an equally wonderful environment. Not everyone wants to feel like a 5 year old again, so some people just aren't going to like Disney as much.

I personally have never been to Universal, and until recently have always wanted to visit, just to see some of the attractions (such as the mummy). But after that commercial, and low blow to Disney, there is NOT A CHANCE I would give that resort a penny. These ads drove me away from visiting Universal. I don't need to go somewhere that feels the need to slam the character and values of Disney. They way I see it, without Disney World, there would be no Universal.
