RCT Problems...need help!

I have Loopy Landscapes and the original RCT. Both worked fine, then, I got a new computer, cleaned out my old machine and went to re-install it into my new computer. For some reason, I can't get Loopy Landscapes to work and when I go to use the original basic game, it works fine...BUT...I cannot LOAD a SAVED game (even a game that I have JUST started). I get kicked out of the game and an "Exception Tracker Error" pops up. The computer that it was originally installed onto was running Windows '98 and the new computer is running Windows 2000. Would this be the problem and if so, can it be fixed, and if so...how do I fix it?

(Is it worth it or should I just wait for RCT2? But, I'm an addict to the game :) )

WOW...really??? Because I also tried to run it on my laptop (which is XP and it said the same thing...I thought that it was just an incompatible game)...Could it be my CD??? It can't be because BOTH CD's do it. Does the resolution have to be at a certain setting maybe??? I run autoCad and my resolution is very large.

I had the same problem but I fixed it. E-Mail Infogames and they'll send you a link to their website and you have to get a patch to make it work.

See if there's a patch on the RCT page. I can't remember if I got one or not.

I had the same problem when I got my new computer. Go to www.rollercoastertycoon.com There's a patch that you can download. Then you have to uninstall RCT and reinstall it. You have to first reinstall the first two versions. It should work once you get them all installed again.

There is another option for those unwilling to get the patch...

Simply find your saved game...hold down shift and right click on it...select "open with"...find your RCT.ext in your program files\hasbro interactive\ rollercoaster tycoon directory..and rpess ok...

it will open ;)

Tricking it? You mean like with the Drexler patch? ;) The game was never so fun before I came across that little guy! :D

Drexlers patch rocks..he does this to ALL sawyer made games..i thought he was a god when he did that hack for Transport tycoon that allowed for longer trains....im begining to think he is Chris Sawyer himself..hmmm...

...also..trainers for RCT are my best friend...especially the dragons IOA...

What are these "trainers?"

and where can you get them?

Well, they are called "trainers" but they really don't teach or train you how to do anything. They unlock features of the game. For instance, you can freeze your money at $5 million so that you can build whatever you want. You can flatten all land with a single mouse click or own all land on the screen including what you can't buy in the actual game - like the area in front of the main gate. They can give you access to all rides at once and allow auto-win of scenarios so that you can access them all. To be honest, after I first found out about the trainers with the original game, I stoped playing it the way it comes in the box altogether. I've played neither Corkscrew or Loopy Landscapes the way you are supposed to ever... Before you use one of these nifty trainers, you'll need the Drexler patch which is made by a guy named Joseph Drexler (or Chris Sawer if you go by Now's theory ;) ) if you do a search on Google for Drexler, you shouldn't have any trouble finding it. What it does is remove the safeties built into the game that keeps you from using the trainers. The game was programmed with certain safeguards to keep the trainers from working and with the release of official patches and expansion packs, Hasbro has gotten tighter with fighting it (probably from the number of tech support calls that they've gotten from people using trainers which you aren't actually supposed to do). With LL for instance, it checks every time you open a saved file to see if all the trees are gone or if the land is totally flat or if areas are higher than they would normally be allowed to go or if all rides and scenery are available and so on. If one of these little safeguards trip, you get this message about some funky problem with a driver which is actually a lie. The program is actually saying it caught you... The drexler patch undoes all of this. What Now said about it maybe being made by Sawyer isn't all that far fetched since he has nothing to do with tech support or customer service or the crappy official website that gets updated once a year and has said for nearly three years that the ride exchange will be back soon... The Drexler patch should always be installed after you have installed all the official patches. Make sure you look at the version description of the patch when you download it so that you get the one that works with the version you have. After it installs, do a search on Google for RCT or Roller Coaster Tycoon. You'll find a ton of sites almost all of which will have trainers of some type. There are a few out there. The techno trainer used to be the best but they haven't kept up with newer versions of the game (like the patch, the trainers have to work with the version you have). Different trainers can do different things. Now mentioned the dragons IOA trainer, it is one of the most complete offering a lot of options. I've had some luck with the Snowbound trainer as well... I have a few others but I can't think of their names off the top of my head... Actually, if you don't want to bother with looking for it all, you can PM me your email address and I'll send everything I have (including the drexler patch) for the latest version of the U.S. release to you. Either way, once you have a trainer, RCT becomes a totally different game! :D

I think everyone will agree that RCT without a trainer is just no fun anymore...i just like to open up a megapark..clear everything out..and build a coaster. No money problems...land problems..etc....

My theory about drexler comes from years of observation...the drexler patches come out like 3 weeks at MOST after the game is officially released...and a mere day or so after every patch comes out. The guy doesnt patch anything but chris sawyer games....ever since he got sub-licensed from microprose (hasbro interactive)....hmmmm

Keep in mind that some trainers wont work on 2k....the only one that was EFFECTIVE for me on 2k was Dragons IOA....and i feel that the fact its an "in game" trainer (meaning you dont have to alt-tab out of it) is an in-vaulable asset.

...oh..and the term "trainer" gets tossed around way too much..in reality..they should be called "cheaters"..since thats what 99% of em do for all games.
