Rare Characters Extravaganza

The Disney Parks Blog has three photos and a link to a 2 minute video today from the Opening Ceremonies Parade at Walt Disney World.

The black and white photos (because apparently the world was in black and white in 1971, although I don't remember it that way) depict such rare Winnie the Pooh characters as Kanga and a Heffalump and there is an owl walking with the Pooh characters but I am not certain whether that is Owl. It probably is.

You can also see a couple of cats from Aristocats in the same photo - Scat Cat and one of his band - definitely not the three kittens or O'Malley.

Check it out at this link, here: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/bl...d-opening-parade-for-magic-kingdom-park-1971/

In another photo on that same link, you can see Gus mouse from Cinderella in the background. I always enjoy seeing photos of characters who once walked around in the parks but who you don't see much (or at all!) anymore.

Cool! Hey, I didn't realize Scat Cat was a character from The Aristocats! Now I know why Scat Cat's Club has that name - thanks!

And is that Gepetto in the parade? Neat!

This is awesome! I wonder what ever became of some of the really old costumes. They should bust them out once in a while. DD2 would love to see tick tock croc (she thinks he is funny) - I see him behind Hook there.

And oh my gosh, Kronk & Kuzco? Those are my dream rare characters to see out and about!

Funny this post should appear. I have a photo album with just character photos in and have been disappointed in recent years by the lack of (what I call not the normal) characters you see out and about.
I have pictures of dwarfs, Quasimodo, frier tuck, the evil queen to name a few. Why can't more of them come out? It would make things even more magical on trips to the parks

@MKCP 1985 Cool photos! Although it was 1971 and they couldn't afford a color camera? Back when Disneyland opened in '55 I could excuse it but it's 1971. Surely color cameras were more common by then :/
@Cmdr_Crimson Oh my god! you're right. I'm so annoyed now. Why don't those characters appear more?
I can't believe there's a March Hare and he doesn't appear with The Hatter more often T_T
The Sultan also surprises me. I recall someone a while back asking if he ever did meet and greets. We have our answer. And I noticed a just as rare character in that picture. The guy from Atlantis with the dynamite. I think his name was Vinny.
the little boy and his donkey from Three Caballeros REALLY surprises me. Never knew they even thought to have them in the parks
I can't remember. Does their story take place in South America or Mexico? Because if it's Mexico then there's a certain pavilion in Epcot he'd be perfect for. Providing anyone actually remembers him by now >>
I recall my last trip in June, the character selection was very bare. I assumed it was because of the really hot and rather sudden rainy weather of that week.

I really like that eeyore, too. Lovely heffalump and Woozle (looks a bit skinny, lol) I wish they'd roll them into the parks every now and then. Preferably when I'm there.

Do you live in Orlando?

I once saw Kuzko as a lama in font of the sorcerers hat at MGM studios. One of my favorite character sightings. Now I lost the picture
