This is probably one of my least favorite fairytales. And I don't know how they could do it since it's about ______, but...

Kristin Chenowith (sp?) is amazing. So, it my be worth seeing, especially since she's a singer and I would love to see another classic Disney musical.

So, what do we know about this one? Is this being planned as a 2D project, or are they going to treat us with another CGI? Will it be a serious take, or a spoofy comedy thing?

It's going to be CGI made by Walt Disney Feature Animation.

Very little is known about the film, though they've already released some teaser promotional material.

It won't be a straight out spoof like the Shrek movies, but I'm guessing it'll be the fairytale with some light moments.

Interestingly enough, wasn't Rapunzel featured (quite a prominent role) in the latest Shrek movie? Dreamworks beating Disney to the punch?

Ah crap, that's a HUGE shame and a HUGE letdown about it being CGI. I guess Disney still doesn't understand that what makes Pixar so endearing to people was the story and character, and not the animation. Did Disney use the terrible HOME ON THE RANGE as a final measuring stick?

I thought I read somewhere that Disney will be going back to 2D (atleast their Walt Disney Animation unit)...and that the bulk of the CGI stuff will be handled by Pixar...

Rapunzel has been in the works for a while now so....

I'm pretty sure Rapunzel is still going to be CGI. Disney will do The Princess and the Frog in regular hand drawn 2-D animation.

I think Disney will have Pixar do CGI now, but Disney is probably, at least to my knowledge, still working on both Rapunzel and Bolt (previously titled American Dog) since it was already in the works for so long.

I thought I had heard that also. Disney killed the 2D and let all the artists go, then when Lassiter took control one of the first things he did was put it back. But if Rapunzel is still CGI, who knows? I just know it would be nice to see actual 2D again, aside from the bit in Enchanted.

Thanks for that info. :)

Am I the only one who wishes it were an actual take on the fairytale instead of some type of comedy?
Why don't they make fairytales like Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid anymore. It seems that everything nowadays needs to be comical or they won't mess with it.

I figure that's the case. And who knows, maybe Rapunzel will be Disney Animation's first TRUE CGI hit....

Nope. I loath Shrek and what it has done.

The film as stated is definitely going to be CGI, but I'm telling you that this will be the most beautiful CGI film you have ever seen. The artistic style of the film is based off of Jean-Honore Fragonard's "The Swing"(?)...haha...some art major I am, I can't even remember what the painting is called...oh well...anyhow, their is going to be a ton of detail that this film is cramming into some of the backgrounds.

If you are curious for pictures, feel free to google Disneys Rapunzel and then click images...or...

This is a movie that I cannot wait to see, originally it was supposed to be a Shrek-styled spoof of fairy tales...or a "fractured fairy tales" kinda cartoon (for those that remember that cartoon series). Over time though, the story has undergone many, many, many revisions and I'm not sure that anyone outside Disney knows what the story is gonna be about now.
