Disney’s RANGER NATIONAL PARK: AN ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME

Intro and Tickets

You drive around aimlessly for hours. “What to do now? I’ve done both parks, I went to the pool, now what?” Well, why not take the adventure of a lifetime? Located past the parks, near the Anaheim Convention center is a grand wooden sign in the shape of a shield, outlined and type in green with a small carved picture of a mountain range and a moose exclaiming “Disney’s RANGER NATIONAL PARK”. You drive down a short driveway into a small clearing with a small parking lot and, basically, nature’s wonderland. The first thing you notice are GIANT trees (but not redwood-scale, of course!) covering the *cough showbuilding cough* forest. All around are greenery and trees and shrubs, seemingly “wildly” growing.
There’s a little wooden building that looks as if it couldn’t be any more than 3 or 4 rooms large, with a wooden door everyone seems to be going in to and a little window with a perky Disney Cast Member behind it. It’s completely overshadowed by the trees. Another thing that’s worth noting is an old, faded billboard outside on the left side of the building, exclaiming “Ranger National Park” and under it: “An Adventure Of A Lifetime!” There seem to be people exiting the *cough showbuilding cough* forest behind the building and giving your You drive up to the semi-spacious parking lot and feel that it’s made of gravel. When you step out, you realize that it’s not really gravel at all; it’s just a gravel look-and-feel alike, probably created by those Imagineers. You continue on to the tiny building, greeting the perky CM at the little ticket window. You rent a putter and a ball for $15, and then the kindly CM says to walk into the wooden door when the light turns green and to enjoy “an adventure of a lifetime!”. You sit at one of the benches near the door to admire the scenery when suddenly… “Ding!” The little light above the door turns from red to green and the door automatically opens. You start your adventure…

#1 Ranger Station

You enter the ranger station and immediately hear a voice say: “Hi. Welcome to Ranger National Park!” You realize the voice is coming from a T.V. screen, and it looks like an old video is playing of a young, plump Park Ranger. “Remember, this is not YOUR land to do whatever you fantasize willy nilly, NO! it’s a place all for the native flora and fauna. So on your trip, remember the 3 safety rules of the park: one, *ding!* REMEMBER YOUR SUPPLIES! That means pencils, balls, scorecards, bugspray, and anythin’ else. Two, *ding!* DON’T TAMPER WITH THE WILD! No feedin’ animals, no pickin’ flowers, nothin’! And especially NO SMOKIN’! Remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires. And three, *ding!* STAY ON THE TRAILS! We don’t need another episode with bears. Well, that’s it. I hope you have as much fun as I do every day on the job! See ya on the trails, and remember to have an adventure of a lifetime. Bye.” The logo for the park comes onto the screen, and it fuzzes out and promptly shuts off. The video you were just watching was on a very old television, mounted on a cabinet in the corner of the room. The whole room looks very well lived in, with a desk and a wobbly chair on the side, various chests and armoires, and a dog (a golden retriever) in the corner of the room. On the desk is a lot of papers and stuff, but most noticeably is a picture of a team of uniformed people all in the costume the CM outside was wearing. You can spot the person from the video in the picture, now much older. The little bed the dog’s sleeping on is inscribed with the name “Sparky”. Documents and equipment is strewn all around the room, and it looks very busy. There’s a little place of sanity on the floor, where a clear, straight line of green carpet goes into a hole. At the wall closest to the door (the right) is a little sign reading: “Log Entry #1: Hey, Rod Drake here. Welcome to the park. I assume that you came here for adventure. Well, you won’t find it here. I mean, look at this place! They keep us cooped up here all day. Anyway, I’ve been assigned to extend the trail to ‘unknown regions’. Whatever that means. So, are you comin’ along? P.S. Did you see that video of our “Troop Leader”? What a putz. He’s a lot older now, just look at that picture on the desk!” You put the ball straight down the carpet and into the hole. When you putt it in, the dog wakes up and starts barking. When he realizes the disturbance, he almost immediately goes back to sleep. You walk through the door out of the base camp and enter… a lost paradise.

#2 Mystic Trees

You walk out and find a beautiful glen with light peeking through the trees. Speeking of trees, there are a lot of them here. You find this sign on a “Survey Marker”: “These trees have been in the park for… like, ever now. We tried to chop them down (Yes, we did, the rangers!) to build out the station, but they just keep bouncing back! The myth is that native populations have enchanted the trees so they’d never be harmed. Well, natives or not, the trees will always have a place in the park!” The trick here is to bounce your ball off the trees and into the hole in a strategic manner. The last surprise is a little sapling sticking out right in front of your hole. Fortunately (if hit correctly), the ball will bounce off it and into the hole.

#3 Aww, what a Deer!

You continue walking until you see another marker. It says: “Guess what? One time, I saw a deer right in this very spot. Seems like they like these specific types of bushes and trees around here. Hopefully you find a hungry deer like I did!” Here, you’ll have to make a “blind shot” around the bend. When you turn the corner yourself, you’ll find a deer noshing on a bush! Remember that video, don’t tamper with the wild!

(Sorry, forgot to draw the "marker". It'd be in the little grassy area to the right of the picture.)

#4 Groundhog Day

“Ugh, groundhogs. They’re pesky little critters. Remember to watch your step around here. And get your ball into the right hole… who knows what’ll pop up!”

Here’s where it gets tricky; you have to hit the ball in between the holes in the ground (not easy) and then find the right hole to putt into! Many of the blackened holes in the ground have little devices underneath so the ball pops up when you putt it in. At the end of the course are 3 holes: 2 pop-ups, and a real one. The real one has a little surprise: you putt it in and, behind a rock formation, a groundhog pops up and shakes it’s fist at you! Looks like he’s got a little “Gopher” in him…

BTW, hi! It's me, the creator of the course. Hope you're liking it so far. The updates will be formatted as follows: There will be a short journal entry from Rod Drake, the explorer "going along with you" through signage, and then a course description. Lastly, there will be a quick sketch of the hole so you get an idea for it's layout. And if I forget to draw the trees, please don't hurt me. Thanks for viewing!!

Yes
So, here I am, posting in this quaint thread, and not just because you told me to do so. On to the comments.

Everything looks wonderful. It's a shame Disney would/has never done this before, considering this should be one of their new additions to any of the resort. Very good job at describing the tactics of putting well at each hole. And also good job with the pictures, they make eveything a lot easier to picture.

YAY! A comment! Because I told you to!

Anyway, thanks. I can't wait to get to a specific hole: that's the turning point! And the pictures are kinda stinky. Just to get a feel for the course, right? Anyway, new update in a couple of seconds! (I'm bored.)

#5 Why’d it have to be…

“SNAKES!!! I hate ‘em. But they’re part of the park too, so I guess they’re okay. They’re not poisonous or anything, just… scary!”

You cautiously hit the ball through the wooded passage taking care to hit it hard enough so you can clear the wavy course (HINT! The hole’s not where you think…). You walk by and, tripping a sensor, you get scared by a sudden rattling!! Did you step on a snake’s tail? Well, the rustling bushes seem to suggest that. You finish up the hole cautiously and move on…

P.S. Final hole of the night. Need sleep, have a long day tomorrow. I'll be sure to get to hole #9 by Wednesday...

#6 Luck?

“Wow. What a majestic piece of history. This is our pride and joy here, as we pride ourselves deeply in our heritage. The totem pole is said to represent good luck and fortune for all who pass by. I sure hope it imparts some luck onto us!”

The totem pole is most likely the most technically difficult holes. It consists of 4 faces: the main, large one on the top, One in the middle with a goofy-looking expression, and 2 on the bottom, facing either side. When you putt into the pole (it’s rather easy, there’s a dip in the course), the totem comes to life! The top one blinks, his eyebrows move, and his rather large mouth says something like “A visitor? Hmm, what fortune shall it be?”

The 2 on the side could start bickering, saying “Make ‘em start again!” “No, hole in one!” “Are you kidding?” “No way!” “I say start over!” The middle one chimes in a slow, Eeyore-like voice: “Why not send it to the sides…” The top one says “Great idea!” A chime rings and one of the 2 side faces spit out the ball. It goes “Puuh! Disgusting!”, while the other says “Hah Hah!”

Another possible outcome: One side face says “I dunno… that visitor looks kinda shifty…” “Yeah! Send it back to start!” “Yeah!” The middle one says “Why not…”, and the top one says “Sorry!” as a chime rings and your ball comes rolling out of a tube by the starting point!

Another possible outcome: One side face says “I like this one. Hole in one please??” “Please please please please?” The middle one says “I like the visitor too…” The top one concludes with “Alright! But just this once, okay??” The side ones exclaim “YAY!” as a chime rings. You see that the ball goes right into the hole on the other side!

You continue to play until you get a “fortune” that allows you to move on. There are about 25 different pre-recorded fortunes, most of them being “out the side”

#7 Star Spangled Bird

“So far I’ve seen a deer, some groundhogs, snakes, and now THIS!! What a beauty. I love birds, one of my favorite animals (besides wolfs! I love those.) And look! She’s even made a nest!! One of my favorite things about this job.”

The eagle and her nest can be found overhead, just above the hole. One of this hole’s tricks is that it has a little jump from one side of the hole to the other. So, if you want your ball to “fly”, try to get it a good, fast start so it can cross the gap.

#8 Crossing

“There was a MOOSE CROOSING deep in the woods, there was a MOOSE CROSSING right where I stood! Thank goodness moose don’t usually cross here. He took forever to get out of the path!”

Your ball goes through a curvy path, and up an “anthill”. When you put your ball into the hole, you hear the moose, but just can’t quite see it… Well, you’ll need an eagle eye for this one (the eagle from the previous hole sometimes turns it’s head and looks right at it!), as he’s behind a “wall” of greenery. If you peer through, you’ll be able to see the moose’s head in all it’s glory!

#9 Uncharted…

“Well, here we are… uncharted territory… Hey, what’s that footprint doing past the gate? And there’s another! And another! Hmm… probably those crazy kids. Nowadays, kids never listen to the laws. I should know… I’m one of ‘em! Anyways, up there’s our last tower in the park. I imagine you could see anything up there. Oh well, we better trudge on. I can’t imagine what we’ll find up ahead, can you? I better not be getting’ cold feet…”

This hole is pretty easy. Putt your way through the legs of the tower and into the hole.
