Are we, adults, really arguing about the CHILDREN in Disney world? Disney world was made for FAMILIES, which include CHILDREN and all of their paraphenalia. That said, I agree about those rental strollers. They are huge, ugly, offer no real features of convenience, and are a beast to push. I bring my own. I have 4 kids, 3 of which were under the age of 3 at the same time at one point. I brought a double tandem (front and back) stroller to the parks once. Learned that that was a PITA. I brought a side by side stroller once. Learned that that was a PITA. In the end, I had two single strollers that weren't huge bohemiths (sp). I also agree about age. I had a 6yr old that's hypoglycemic and fatigues easily with sugar lows. I stopped bringing a stroller for her this past year. Now, if she's a bit tired, she stands on the back of her brother's chair. Six is my max for a stroller at theme parks. I HATE jogging strollers at parks! They are HUGE and don't turn easily. I don't understand why anyone would use a jogging stroller for anything other than JOGGING.

Huh? Don't know where your CHILDREN comment came from. STROLLERS are not CHILDREN unless one is suffering from Alice in Wonderland syndrome.

The stroller phenomena can be blamed on parents pushing their little pampered princes and princesses over the age of 4 in strollers. I even saw someone who said they had a stroller to carry all their crap! Thanks so much. But honestly, 10 year olds in a stroller? Really? I'm so SICK of the argument, "But they get tired!" Uh....DUH! They are SUPPOSED to be tired, it's DISNEY! Old enough to walk? No stroller necessary. When they get tired you take a break and sit, get a drink, whatever. I speak from experience. I'm not a childless person spouting off, we started taking the kids when my youngest was four. And guess what? No stroller! Ever! And guess what else? No tantrums, no crying or whining - ((GASP!)) he had a ball then and every trip since (he's 13 now). And please remember your precious darling is not my precious darling, I have my own, thank you.

Is it because it is easier to push a stroller with child at any age than to carry or walk with child? Plus all the gear needed? Don't have children. Just asking.

There seems a lot of generalising going on here, on both sides.

For my part- DH and I took our DS for his first trip last December, when he was 2.5 years old. We hired a stroller from a company that wasn't Disney, because Disney strollers are massively overpriced and a lot less comfortable. Both DH and I pushed the stroller on the trip. Neither of us ran into anyone. Neither of us abandoned it anywhere to get in anyone's way. We both learned how to fold it up & open it out properly before we hit the parks on the first day so we weren't messing about & not knowing what we were doing and causing big lines for the bus, for example, and inconveniencing people. I don't think the strollers themselves are the problem- just that some people who use them, are very thoughtless. The same can be said for others though- scooters, line jumpers, indecisive people ordering a meal at a CS place causing long lines, people who use flash photography on dark rides, people who try & take your space on the kerb when you've been camped out for an hour for the perfect parade spot.....the list is endless. Unfortunately, people can be so hung up on having the 'perfect Disney vacation', that they go around with a sense of entitlement and are oblivious to others around them. This is just something we all have to put up with unfortunately, but in the same way I wouldn't tarnish everyone who uses a scooter, for example, with the same brush, it's unfair to do the same to parents with strollers.

Oh, and on the age old subject of when to take a child up WDW for the first time- my 2.5 year old had the time of his life. Even now, 3 months later, he still talks frequently about the trip and certain things he remembers. He does have an exceptional memory though but for him, it was the right age. Everyone is different and every child is different. Once again, another time not to generalise- it's entirely dependant on the child and family.

Our our 4 yo and 2 yo in Nov. All our gear fit in one backpack. Few diapers and wipes for 2 yo and a change of clothes for each kids. Snacks and a couple bottles of water. Once they eat normal food you don't need too much. 2 yo needed the stroller but it was mostly for in park naps. When he was awake he wanted to walk like a big boy. 4 yo didn't really need to ride. We spent a few mornings in park stroller less and it was really nice.

I don't really have an issue with strollers. I have been to WDW 30 times in the last 18 years and have never been hit or run over by a stroller. Maybe I just pay attention to my surroundings and avoid them IDK. We used a stroller when our kids were small. We took our own once and rented from Disney(this was when they were cheaper). A cast member told me they raised the price so much because people where letting their 10 and 12 year old ride in them and they are way to heavy and broke the wheels. Raising the price was a type of discouragement but of course it hurt those who used them properly. I do have an issue with people blocking pathways and doorways with strollers or ECVs or their bodies. I am also of the mind that healthy children older then 5 do not need to be in a stroller. We would have our kids sit down on benches and rest every couple of hours and they were able to go a week walking all day without issues. Just take it slow and take breaks.

I'm not a parent myself so I can't exactly offer much insight. All I know is that my parents absolutely never even considered the thought the idea of taking me and my siblings out of school for vacation. They knew we would unlikely be able to catch the makeup work and/or we would forget plus they strongly valued education. But I do think that the reasons behind what seems to appear a large array of stroller presence in the parks is an accumulation of many factors. Some have pointed out how expensive and/or uncomfortable the Disney strollers are, some have pointed out how there is too much lenient/bad parenting of their children, some have criticized parents for not giving enough rest time to the children, etc but I do think there are several factors many of us are forgetting: I believe schools and travel industry in general have put families in a lose lose situation and they are a contributing factor to stroller "epidemic" so to speak.

With school districts and if applicable, entire states having restrictive rules and ramifications about taking children out of school, parents are now inclined, if not, forced to take their children to Disney at a much younger age. I understand not every single school district has such repressive matters but there are places where one can be sent to jail for missing too much school. Because of this, families don't have many options. It's either the super crowded times of the holidays and summer months, which offers advantages to no one and costs a significant amount of money, spring break times or 3-4 day weekends, which can be easily taken away because of snow days and such or...not going at all. Which means parents pretty much have one option: Taking their children when they are much younger. Because of all that, parents are so pressured to do everything in WDW and have the "rush" mentality to do everything and that doesn't work. Everyone will be tired, worn out and exhausted and the Florida heat only makes the problems worse. This is why so many guidebooks suggest that families with young children should take an afternoon break to cool off and relax away from the parks. They are not equipped to handle long periods of time under the hot and humid weather that is the state of Florida.

The travel industry offers the most cheapest prices during off-peak times but unfortunately, it always clashes with school schedules so most parents lose out. If they are crazy enough to pay the ridiculous prices during the summer and holiday months, they are only asking for trouble. Of course, there are a lot of counterarguments that can be made how a vacation incorporates learning and education and teaches children things that will not experience in a regular classroom. Bottom line, we can blame so many factors but I think we need to consider and fault the situation(s) that is/are causing this stroller widespread presence in the parks and not the physical strollers themselves. Just my two cents.

Then you should reread the beginning where it was being discussed that under certain ages was too young and whatnot. I only suffer from the syndrome of reading before mocking.

Hmmm....all under 3? Free admission, it goes away way to fast! They say God gives you only what you can handle, He must have known I couldn't handle that stroller.

Fortunately we have have a quote and reply button to use, it helps the rest of us figure out who you are disagreeing with. :)

This is EXACTLY why I tell my friends with kids to NOT bring their kids to WDW until they're old enough to walk on their own w/o a stroller.

I never said that. But...when my friends ask me "what is the best age to take my kids to Disney" - i tell them when they're old enough to walk without needing a stroller.
Because I responded to somebody who "tells" people what the appropriate age is to bring kids to Disney World?
She was talking about discussions with her friends, as mentioned in both quotes. You may give your friends different advice. What does it matter what she tells hers?

"We are the people, your parents warned you about" -Jimmy Buffett

We are stroller people- actually headed into transition away- but for now stroller people. A week from Sunday we arive around noon and will MK with a back pack and DS9, DD6. When we do our rope drop to close day on Wednesday- small stroller with a cooler in the bottom and our "stuff" bag hung over the back. YES my 9 year old son will ride in it 3 times late in the day and YES I will run you over if you are not paying attention.

last september i noticed an increase in strollers. however, i have never been hit by one....

i did take a hit to my ankle by a wheelchair, though. hit hard too and fell to the ground. surprisingly it wasn't another guest.. it was my dad, pushing my mom in the wheelchair. he must not have paid attention and WHAM! hit me right on my ankle and down i went...

i can laugh at it now, but at the time it sure did hurt... other than that, i have never been hit by a stroller, ecv, etc... guess i've been lucky in that regard.

..."YES my 9 year old son will ride in it 3 times late in the day and YES I will run you over if you are not paying attention.

I truly hope you meant, "YES I will run over you if I am not paying attention," and not that the crowds are expected to part like the Red Sea simply because you have a stroller and they have to rely on their pathetic human legs to get around. Or that your entire post was meant to be humorous hyperbole... :D
