Rain soaked week update May 16-23

Well i dont do this much, but as i sit here in the Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village because it is yet again raining, story of this week, but anyway. Rain has been awesome this week, everyday except last saturday, and yesterday it didnt start until like seven.

Kidani village is awesome, not very much different from AKL, just for DVC members. Savannahs are nice, although i have not gotten to see much of the giraffes because of the rain i guess.

Crowds yesterday at Mk were pretty heavy, splash hit 80 minutes and big thunder hit 70. Kind of wish it would have rained yesterday earlier to scare people off, which has been the story of my week also. The rain has kept capacity down, except for those disney fans like me who make the best of it and stay in the parks, besides today because i was at AK, Safari and EE shut down because of lightning. Usually the last full day i have here i go to every park and ride the major attractions, cut short.

Back to the rain, its ridiculous, ive probably only seen one full day of sun this whole entire week. Its a constant rain cloud that seems to not go away, the rain does not stop either, it just keep going, steadliy, but heavy downpours at some times. But the positive as said before, people scatter our of the parks and its amazing to be at MK with really noone around at night. I felt as if i had the whole park to myself.

Some other tidbits
-Probably had the best safari of my life at AK, every animal was out in view, close to us, very active, maybe because of the cool weather?
-Crowds starting out at parks were pretty heavy, until rain hit, wait times then went down. Rode EE twice in a row, walk on basically. Same with the Safari
-Wishes was cancelled a night i was at MK, Fantasmic may have been also cancelled last night, not so sure, we didn't stay
-Toy story mania is still popular as ever, had a 100 min wait time, but fastpass prevails with me, cant get a score over 160,000 lol
-Disney florists and landscapers did a great job wit topiaries at the Flower and Garden Show. I loved all of them, took pictures in front of every one. Lion king is my fave.
-Being at AK and not having much to do really made me realize how much animal kingdom needs some more big rides. I was able to get into Ak at 10 and leave by 3 after doing Everest Twice, safari twice, Festival of the lion King, and dinosaur. Primeval Whirl shut down.
-Had my first experince at Star Wars weekend today. Not to bad, pretty cool ting disney does, even though i have never watched star wars.
-Also saw the new Disney UP characters, they are pretty sweet looking.
-Ate at whispering canyon for the first time last night and had the skillet(s), demolished two lol.
Pretty good food.

Can't really figure what else to say besides i never want to see rain ever again. It will be my luck, i leave here and go back to Ohio only to see more rain, and the temp here decides to change to 90 and sunny. Anyone coming over the next couple of days i hope you have an umbrella or buy ponchos!

Wish i could show you guys pictures, but i cant upload them, forgot my cord!
Cheers!

yes figment it was raining.

And welcome to florida, this is my at least tenth trip to disney, probably 15th to florida, and never have i faced rain like this, even in spring. And i have been here during hurricane season, been through one tropical storm, and this is about as bad as one.

Oh man. I really feel bad for you. I spent a few years in Florida and know how frustrating the rain can be when it's like this. Anyway, to coin a phrase,

A rainy day at WDW is still better than a sunny day anywhere else! :)

Thanks for the update!

I'm from Florida and rarely see rain like this! Yes, it rains a ton here but it usually comes in short spurts of violent thunderstorms, not a week long soaking. We had a conference at Coronado Springs this past week and it was rather annoying dealing with the rain! We went to the parks yesterday and I guess we got lucky: Splash only had a 25 minute late but I could definitely tell the crowds were out to make use of the one non-rainy day

Drats! I just typed a faily long reply on my experience here at Kidani too. Darn IE window cleared and I lost it all before saving. I don't have the patience to do it all again but here's a brief...

Lots of rain this week! Over 3" just today (Friday) with Tuesday also being a wash out. Rain has brought out some contstruction flaws - leaks in windows and ceiling around the lobby.

Rooms are really large (one bedroom). Two bathrooms is really nice. Parking garage has been wonderful this week of rainstorms ~ wish all the deluxe resorts had them. My room is near the lobby (library side), 5th floor, savanah view.

Bus service is good since Kidani is first stop for all theme park routes. Lots of people get on at Jambo! Bus service from AK not so much. Waited over 25 minutes for a bus from AK to AKL. I don't understand how the shortest route can take the longest?!?!?!

Check out is tomorrow. Hopefully there is no rain in Indiana cuz I have had enough!!

Happy that it finally stopped raining in the late afternoon. Was just really bad when I was at the Studios.
Also, if anyone saw a guy in an orange jacket with a Figment hat, that was me.

Just been watching the weather report and they are reporting the system out in the gulf that is causing all the rain here may become the first named tropical system of the year in the next 24 hours. It would seem hurricane season is already cranking up. I live in Davenport, less than 10 miles from WDW and the weather is worse than it was when hurricane Ike was passing through the gulf last year, between 1pm and 3pm whilst the storm was passing Kissimmee was issued with a tornado warning and AK and DHS had a advisory issued advising to get indoors due to strong thunderstorms and chance of tornado formation. Also NASA has had to delay the shuttle return because of the weather conditions here in Fla.

The only plus is that my brown lawn is finally starting to look green! lol.

Honestly, anyone who watched radar of the system passing over florida knows that the system demonstrated tropical cyclone/depression characteristics.... The NOAA/NHC has always been aprehensive to name a storm before the June 1st season start... a load of bull if you ask me..

MEanwhile, I'm flying to New Orleans on business this Tuesday, starting to re-think those plans right now :)

Stopped at the MK this morning prior to heading to the PIE airport. For the second day in a row, rain cut the 11:00 am Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It Street Party short. Just starts pouring about 2/3 of the way into it. Rain sure can put a damper on a street party!

Well, back home now so tomorrow the joys of the real world start again. Got to mow the lawn and clean out the gutters from the all the maple whirly-gigs that fell while I was vacationing at Kidani Village.
