Raglan Rd: Bland or not?

Hi there,

I'm going July 8 with BF and 4 kids from 11-15, I was thinking about dong ADR's for Raglan Rd for our first night, but aside form the challenge of predicting what we'll be in the mood for 129 days from now, I need to know if the food is overly bland. If it's not, then I'll shoot for it. I suggested it to BF last night (I'm getting the feeling that he just wants Disney to hurry up and get here at this point so I stop talking about it!) but he said he'd always felt Irish and other UK food was bland.
We're only going to do one or two restaurants while there so I want them not to suck.
Based on everything I've heard it SEEMS like it'd be a fun place to check out.

I'm from San Diego, and preference is Baja Mexican (can have flavor, but nowhere near as spicy as New Mexico-Mex). The BF tends towards Asian food. I enjoy Texas BBQ, but for me BBQ is just too much sometimes. He's not a fan of meat and potato dishes (maybe he's only had bland ones).

Honestly, truly authentic UK/Irish food might seem bland to someone who's used to Mexican/Asian cuisine. I don't think Raglan Road is strictly authentic, and I've never eaten there myself, so it probably comes down to "is it something you really want to try". Have fun narrowing down your choices!

Yes
"Asian" food ... thats not a typical food style. If you mean a particular genre of spicy Chinese like Schezwan as opposed to Cantonese understandable but its also very different than Pho , Indian curry (very wide variations there), mutton from the 'stans, Turkish, and Arabic traditions.

Ragland Road is wonderful. Beefy Murray is my favorite, a a curry pie with spinach, mushroom, potatoes, and apple chutney.

I wouldn't call it bland. Certainly depends what you order, but the flavours are a little more delicate then strong spices and chillies etc.

It's one of my favourite restaurants on property too, it certainly comparable to a good pub standard in Britain or Ireland, unfortunately some aspects come across a little commercialised and mass produced - but less so than 95% of the other restaurants on-property.

I just went there with my family on vacation in February based on two separate recommendations from family members, one whom is a cast member at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was one of the best dinners we had all week. My boys had the sirloin steak which they loved, and I had a seafood medley(stew?) which was awesome. My family said the chicken wings were the best they've ever had, and the bread pudding out of this world. The entertainment was fun, the irish step dancers perform in each part of the restaurant, and the gift shop had a great selection of clothes and souvenirs. You won't be disappointed. Prime time café is bland. Raglan Road is not.

i don't think it's bland. it's americanized nouveau irish food. i thought everything was appropriately seasoned and very tasty. especially the tomato gin soup. and i don't like tomato soup lol.

It look's like the kids might be out voting me in favor of The Kitchen Sink for dinner on day 1.
But Raglan Rd is for sure on my "date night" short list.

I will also say that the order of garlic parmesan fries with truffle oil that we got to snack on at the bar was *the* best food item we ate our entire trip last year...

We tried Raglan on a whim two trips ago and loved it. UK food isn't very spicy at all and the atmosphere, music and crowd at the place is great. It's become my favorite place to eat at WDW outside of the very pricy Boma and Artist Point. Shepherds Pie= yum!

I agree. You definitely can't break tradition of Beaches and Cream the first night and the excitement of the yellow lights when the kitchen sink comes out to your table. It's a great way to start vacation! In addition to the kitchen sink and No Way Jose sundae, the pastrami sandwiches and burgers are great there too. Then, go for Raglan Road another night.

I think it really depends on what you order. My husbands steak was salty but not flavorful at all plus it was fatty/greasy just not good in our opinion. I had the guiness beef stew and my daughter had the shepherd's pie and both were good.

Just in case you haven't seen this-

It is a FANTASTIC experience - food and show! As I mentioned in a trip report, there was a Disney entertainment exec at the table next to us. He said he was there for fun, not work, and brought his parents. That says something!
The dancers brought some young Downs Syndrome audience members on stage, who did a wonderful job dancing and having a blast!
Not a dry eye in the house, including mine!
It will always be on the top of our list!
