Rafiki's Planet Watch Needs More

I Love the slow Train ride over to Rafiki's PLanet Watch.:)

When I get off the train...I walk down the path...then I get to the main building...and...and...That's it !

There's a little bit of stuff to view...a few hand's on exhibits, a Petting zoo full of baby goats, and a tiny little outdoor gift shop.

Is it just ME, or does anyone else think they should add more stuff to this area?

Maybe even a full service Restaurant with a Conservation theme, or a Reptile house.

I seem to get in and out of Rafiki's Planet Watch in 20 to 30 minutes. :hammer:

Am I just being whiney or does anyone else agree?

Any thoughts on this?

Well, on the last trip we skipped the train and Planet Watch, so yea... I agree.

When they're performing an operation it's absolutely brilliant, but the rest just isn't worth the time it takes to get out there.

I agree, I was recently thinking about that. What could Rafiki's Planet Watch get as an addition that would fit with the theme and would not make the train too crowded? A Restaurant has got to be the answer!!!! That would be perfect to put a Restaurant there. AK needs another one, and it would be soo cool to take the train to it!!!!

Yes, I had thought of that once, but forgot until you mentioned it, a Restaurant is good. I heard that the Legend of the Lion King was going to move out thereonce too, so I will say a good stage show could be good too.

The only problem with putting a show there, is the crowds. The trains would get packed and people would have to wait a long time just to get to the land. If they were going to do something that brings more people to the area, then they are also going to have to find an alternate way to get to the area.

Hmmm, see I didn't see a show as a problem for the train, but maybe it would be... I figured enough people are out at Conservation Station already to fill a small show. Of course it can't be something like Fantasmic. However, I agree even now, that an alternate route is needed.

But just think if it was something like Festival of the Lion King. That show sees close to 1,400 people per performance. It would cause chaos to get over there to see the show.

Yes, I agree, that show wouldn't work, maybe something on the lines of Pocahontas and her forest friends.

How else could you stay in theme and get people out there?

They could always create something new.

To transport people you mean?

If this was in reference to the show, I don't mean move that show, just add a show of that caliber.

Misunderstanding then...I thought you meant move Pocahontas.

It wouldn't necessarily have to be a stage show.

A nice family sit-down or counter restauraunt would be nice.

Or a bigger gift shop with plush endangered species animals.

Maybe pony rides for the kids....no wait...someone would complain about the cruelty to animals...bad idea.

How about an ice cream parlor?...but don't put it too close to the petting zoo..the smell is pretty bad there.

How about a building with a HUGE model Railroad display? Kids as well as adults would enjoy that. (As long as it's air-conditioned)

It doesn't have to be something spectacular...we just need a couple of more reasons to want to go to the Planet Watch than a petting zoo.

I always though that Disney should have a building in each park full of ice machines...so guests could fill their mugs and coolers for free. I would go to Rafiki's Planet Watch just for THAT.
:D

I agree! It would be great to have another attraction out that way. I wouldn't be too concerned with moving people, as that is one of the things Disney does best!

An idea I thought of a couple trips back was a building similar to the BIODOME in Montreal. Its fits the AK theme perfectly.

It is essentially an indoor "4-season" exhibit, showing how different animals adapt to different climates and locales. They actually have an icy "winter" quadrant, a very desert-like "summer" quad, etc.....

It would be great to have an indoor winter habitat representing the "Polar animals" like penguins and polar bears right in the middle of the African plains! HAHA!

It could also double as a tropical rainforest exhibit.

Just a thought. Has anyone ever been to Montreal and know what I'm talking about?

Just a bit of history:

Back when Beastly Kingdom was going to happen there were rumors of Lion King moving to Africa and Pocahontas moving to Conservation Station.

Both these moves would have been good, in my opinion. Give you something else to do in Africa and a reason to take the train.

I love the idea of a BioDome, BRER STITCH!

Frankly, I'd be happy if they just doubled or tripled the size of the petting zoo area and added a few more different types of animals. The kids were all psyched to go there, and then it turned out to be significantly smaller than our local park district petting zoo. Also, it didn't have anything to make me think it was a "Disney" attraction, in that it wasn't any better than what I can see at home. Needs work.

I do like the rest of the Conservation Station area, and we were lucky enough when we went to see a show with a sloth, which was both educational and entertaining.

I think someone already mentioned this, but if there were another way there than just the train i think it would be more successful.

I mean, how long would it really take to walk that? 10 mins? People dont want to wait on a train if they could walk it quicker.
