Quick Service Dining

First of all I wanted to thank everyone who has answered my questions so far, you are really helping me with my upcoming trip in September!

I selected the free dining plan option for my trip, and I understand the table service and snack option, but not sure I fully understand the Quick Service part.

Could some of you please give me some actual examples of what you use this option for? I have dinner planned for all 7 nights, so I assume I would use the QS meals for breakfast and lunch. So if you have suggestions on where you like to eat and what you do to maxamize the plan I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance.

Basically QS is where you would get a 'fast food' type meal, burgers, fries, chicken fingers, etc. It wouldn't be a place where they have appetizers, entrees, desserts i.e.(Le Cellier, Biergarten, Ohana)

"Quick Service" has often been referred to as "Counter Service", which is actually a better description. Anywhere you go to a cafeteria-style counter to get your food. Table Service is where a server takes your order at your table and delivers.

Examples: Resort food courts, Park restaurants like Pecos Bill's or Cosmic Ray's...

And if you're wondering "just how much/what kind of food can I get", here are a few real-life examples of what you could get with one Counter Service credit (i.e. this is what I ordered on past trips using a CS credit):

Lunch at Cosmic Rays: bacon double cheeseburger w. fries, large soda, brownie

Breakfast at Pop Century: Waffle platter w. bacon & sausage, coffee, juice

Lunch at Pizzafari: Pepperoni pizza, large soda, apple pie

Dinner at Cosmic Rays: 1/2 chicken & BBQ rib combo, large soda, brownie

Dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express in DD: BBQ chicken pizza, soda (refillable), cookie

And a few tips:
-If you don't want a dessert with your meal, get a bottle of water as your "dessert" and keep it for later.
-At breakfast, they will often let you substitute a dessert item instead of the juice. We were able to get a waffle, croissant and coffee.

I use my quick service meals for lunch.
MK: I love Columbia Harbor House
Epcot: I love the desserts at Sunshine Seasons
AK: I always eat at Pizzafari since it is air conditioned

You will get a meal and dessert there. I get a bottle of water for my drink. I sometimes carry a ziploc bag or buy the desserts that come in plastic cases. That way I can eat them later.

Re: Maximizing meals

There are two ways one could view this: maxing quanities (stretching) or maxing quality.

Cosmic Rays in MK and Flame Tree BBQ in AK both offer a large plate big enough to share (see previous post). My wife and I have done this. Most people on this plan, when they return say somehting like: "I ate so much, it was more than I could eat." Most do not go hungry splitting these large plates. I hear that Sunshine seasons in Epcot has a deal that is big enough to share too.

Wolfgang Express in Downtown Disney gives you both quality and quanity for your meal credit. It is a popular choice. Seating is limited on the westside though.

I have found that breakfasts are generally less expensive out of pocket than lunch at QSR. However, as someone said, you can get both a juice and another drink at breakfast. I did this and got a Dragon Fruit VitaminWater to go. This kept me from using snack credits on drinks all week, which meant more "free" ice cream!

Although not a meal value maximizer, the Fish and Chips in the UK are also very popular, and for good reason. They are great. Con: the dessert is a shortning bread cookie. It is ok, its best quality being its portalbility.

I don't know where you are staying, but the food court at your resort can be hit or miss. When I was on the plans, I stayed at AKL and Pop. Both of these have good food courts. The fried shrimp platter was good.

There is a site called allears, in addition to this site, that has a good listing of the QSR's and their menus.
