Hello all!

First, I hope I posted this in the right place. If not, I am very sorry.

My name is hans and I am taking my bride-to-be to disneyworld for our honeymoon in January. This is my first trip to the greatest place on earth and had a couple of questions.

Some tips i have read tell you to take a backpack to keep things such as autograph book, pens, ponchos, etc....

My question is: Do they let you on the rides with these, or do they have a cubby hole for you to store them in until the ride is over? I ask because I will be keeping a very expensive camera in either a backpack or fannypack.

Next, for anyone who has stayed a Port Orleans Riverside:

What is the best building to stay in? Which section do you prefer?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Me and my GF always bring a backpack with us, unless we're just doing a small trip to a park(Like a few hours or so) There are no cubby holes for them, but there is usually more than enough room to hold them on the rides. As for Port Orleans, never been there.

Have a Fun Trip!

No cubbies for backpacks. You MUST keep them with you on the rides. Most people do not have problems with this--you can usually put them on the floor of the ride car and loop the straps around your ankles.

No first-hand experience with POR, but Deb's website, http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm has a map and photos.

Hope that helps!

Congratulations on your wedding and your great choice for honeymoon destination.

You can easily take a backpack with you on pretty much every ride.

For a slow dark ride, just put it next to you or on the floor.

For any fast moving ride or roller coaster, I usually put my feet through the straps to keep it down.

For Soarin'... you can just keep it on the ground and it will be right where you left it when you come back down. :)

I've never gone in with a backpack, but I do have a camera bag that holds all the extras. Never had a problem taking it on the rides.

If you can fit your bits and pieces into a bum bag, use that instead of lugging a backpack around.

looks like the backpack question has been taken care of so I will give my suggestion for POR. My hubby and I love this hotel. We always request the Alligator Bayou building number 14 or 18 because these are close to the main building.

I usually end up with a small backpack and a fannypack  Hey, we end up with a lot of stuff for the kids..... But, we have never had a problem with them on the rides. Mission Space has a little cubby thing if I remember correctly on the ride itself (?). The rest you can put in your lap, next to you, the floor etc.

I cannot stress enough to loop the straps around your ankle. We were on a ride (not Disney) and my purse just about flew off (with camera etc in it!). I am more than grateful that my 8 yr old had fast reflexes and caught it with his foot (he was next to me) or it would have been bye-bye- purse. Boy, did he get a reward for that one! :sohappy:

Wow, That was superfast! Thank you for your assistance.

We have a very small amusement park here in arkansas and they don't allow bags on rides.

I will most likely buy a waist bag for our trip now that I know I can take them on the rides.

I still haven't decided whether to ask for alligator bayou or one of the manors. But if I decide the bayou i will request building 14 or 18.

The times that I do carry a bag, I usually take a messenger bag so it's a bit more comfortable after a few house and a bit smaler when carrying it onto rides/shows.

Congratulations on your wedding! One recommendation that I have (if you are both up to it) is to purchase the bride and groom Mickey ears. Cast Members will go out of their way to recognize your special occasion if they see you wearing them. Also, be sure to mention that you are on your honeymoon to cast members at your resort and at any restaraunts. They will often go out of their way to make sure that it's a memorable trip. Congratulations, again!

Oh, and there are a very few attractions that don't have space on them for backpacks. Rock 'N Rollercoaster comes to mind. You'll need to get a locker to put your backpack in if you want to ride it, or leave the pack with a non-riding member of your party. I think there are a few other attractions like this, but most others have ample space in the ride vehicle for items, and some include cubbies or net bags for items (like Mission: Space and Dinosaur).

I always carry a backpack with me, and I always carry it on the rides. You just have to hold onto it. It's not a big deal, in fact, on most of the rides you can set it on the seat between you and the person your riding with. I've never had a close call, or almost lost it, so you should be fine!

I've never stayed at POR!

Hope you enjoy your first trip to the Happiest Place on Earth, and Welcome to WDWMagic!

I actually prefer being able to take my belongings on the ride, as opposed to having the cubby hole. Can you imagine how much stuff must get stolen with those cubby holes?

Congratulations and welcome!

I've stayed at POR many times. I prefer the mansions section. We usually stay in Oak Manor or Partierre Place. These are both just a short walk and a bridge from the food court and Ol' Man Island. Be sure to see Bob Jackson the piano player one nite while you are there also, he is very entertaining.

I totally agree with the ears, just make sure to bring bobby pins for your "wife" as there is no clip or pins on the hat. A friend of mine that worked at Disney got us ours and left them at the front desk for us, since we were out with family. After we got married on the Sunrise Terrace of WL we put the hats on and walked around the lobby. So many congrats and little girls were cute and said look mommy they just got married with Mickey and Minnie ears. We wore the ears for the first few days of our honeymoon, got special photo opportunities with characters in the lobby, in the parks and always got either the first place in line or if we were going to be the cut off, we were allowed on without having to wait for the next ride. After a few days (3 days) though we decided against the hats (the top hat is made short (front to back) and long on the sides, so my hubby was getting a bump on his forehead from it) we got bride and groom pins and wore them around, they were recognized as well and we got special treatment as well with them. Be ready to say thank you about a million times as well. When we checked into the WL the night before the wedding we were to have a courtyard view at the discounted price since it was part of the wedding package. We said we were getting married there tomorrow and got upgrades to 7th floor concierge with a MK view. (Room is about $455 a night, normally) When we were flying home in the airport was a couple with the ears on as well, easier to wear than pack we found out later. We lived in WA State though so decided to ship our gift basket and the ears home with some other items.

Have a great time, be sure to update us once you get home. You guys will love it. Disney is truly a place for the young and young at heart.

You'll be fine in your hotel, as it's all really up to personal preference when picking out a themed building...

I've never had a problem with anything on a WDW ride. Just remember to keep it out of harms way on water rides, and if it's going upside down, you better have something that connects it to you.

I would recommend the pack if possible. Its a lot easier to carry and you will spend less time trying to figure out what you're going to do with it than a full blown backpack since you can carry it hands free :) As mentioned before, the dark rides present no problem as you can simply put them by your feet or even in a lot of cases hold them or leave the pack right where it is. The motion simulator rides such as Body Wars, Star Tours, Dinosaur, Test Track and Mission: Space have cargo nets under your seat for storage as does Space Mountain. However, other rides such as Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tower of Terror and Rock'n Rollercoaster do not, so a locker would be best if you don't want to risk bringing them on the ride with you.

As for Port Orleans Riverside (or Dixie Landings for most of us on here), my family has stayed there every trip for the past 10 times. Let me tell you that you can't go wrong with staying in one of the manors. We usually stay in Magnolia Bend. Being on your honeymoon, the manors at nightime are VERY romantic. Be sure to check out Bob Jackson at the River Roost near the main check-in lobby. And while most people eat breakfast at the food court, I recommend going to Boatwright's Dining Hall at least once. Their Banana Stuffed French Toast and Sweet Potato Pancakes are unbelieveable!!!

Congrats on your marriage and i'm sure you'll have fun no matter what you do:sohappy:

Definitely have breakfast at Boatwrights, the banana stuffed french toast is soooo goood and even though I'm not big on sweet potatoes, those pancakes were excellent, they come with a honey nut butter.
