Quick housekeeping question

I haven't been a WDW resort in a couple of years- has housekeeping changed to bed making and towel replacement only? My sink/mirrors/vanity isn't wiped up, ironing board and iron aren't put away, paper cups aren't thrown out. I am making it sound like I left the suite looking like some frat boys trashed it, but I am talking about a child's handprint on a mirror, iron & board out (we left early & in a hurry), and a coffee cup on a dresser. Housekeeping made the beds but that's it- didn't file up sofa bed or put the cushions away eater than I had. I even cleaned and tidied the room a bunch, thinking they needed to be able to maneuver around our things to clean and ..... Nope, no cleaning. No toiletry replacement either. Strictly bed making and fresh towels. Is this the new norm?

We had issues with Mousekeeping last week. We struggled to get daily housekeeping and when my husband asked about it at the front desk, he was treated to a healthy dose of condescension from a callow "manager." We were staying at BWV in a 1 br villa booked through a travel agent (KK). (I am absolutely not blaming KK, I am just trying to point out I was paying cash OOP for this room, we're not DVC and not renting DVC points.) This "manager" assumed we were DVC and when my husband told him we were not DVC, he incorrectly assumed we were renting points. He was incredibly smug and condescending. He never looked at our actual reservation. We were paying a daily rate. We mentioned our trash was overflowing and he told us there were places to throw out garbage. Fine. but A) there were no garbage bags and B) would you tell someone on the INN side of Boardwalk to take out their trash? We have paid cash for DVC on five previous trips and we have never had this problem.

I understand this might make me sound like a miserable cow to some people, but this was our reality. There was a gross smear on the fridge and the patio doors were nasty. It was just a big let down, because I love Boardwalk.

In my 56 days staying on site,I've only had to phone once for no fresh towels,or soap/shampoo..5 mins later a young man knocked on our door with new towels and enough soap & shampoo to keep us going for the entire trip.;)

That's too bad about your housekeeping experiences. I've had then not throw away cups before but they had water in them so maybe they thought we still wanted to use them. You should call and complain politely they should clean smudges off mirrors and the basics.

Just wondering how they resolved this for you? Did you get the housekeeping? Maybe you should report the manager for his attitude, that is a poor way to treat a guest.

I totally agree - complain to the front desk. There is totally no excuse for not cleaning the room. One time we had stayed at POR for a weekend, and on the last morning we had a fairly early flight out, so I went to make coffee in the room. To my disgust, the coffee maker had not been cleaned (and we hadn't used it all weekend), so it must have been that way all weekend. I was so grossed out - my husband called the front desk, and the manager apologized profusely, and comped us breakfast in the food court.

We did get housekeeping for the last two days, but this was just part of a larger problem with front desk during our stay. My husband called yesterday afternoon and they are supposed to call back today. We just want to give feedback, we are not looking for compensation. The front desk was the black mark of our vacation, everything else was great. We had some fabulous meals, my husband enjoyed his rounds of golf, and while he was playing golf; my son and I spent time together. My son is almost 12, so I know these mom/son times are fleeting. :)

I'm glad you were still able to have a good time!

When I stayed al All-Star Sports a couple months ago I had the same Mousekeeper each day. She would knock at 830am each day and ask if I wanted the room cleaned or not cleaned. If I didn't then I had to signed her clipboard next to my room number saying I declined. She already had a few signatures on it. I would just swap out used towels. She said it helps them to clean more rooms per shift that need them. I figured they must of been short on help that trip because they have never asked me that before.

I have never had mousekeeping give me a choice to clean or not. A few years I was embarrassed about DS's side of the room being extra messy, ( during those combative teen years) and I'd be sure to leave a bigger mousekeepers tip and a thankyou note for the extra work. We have had those notices that they dont change sheets and towels as often to conserve on water.

During our stays we always take a Couple days off from parks and just relax on those days we do not use the mousekeeping service, when she is in the room next to us I will bring out what towels that need to be exchanged, empty our trash and ask for anything else we may need, I have never had to sign anything but have had mousekeeping supervisor call the room and ask if we wanted the room cleaned or are we going to skip the day. There was one time we took the day, but headed DTD for a while and left the room for mousekeeping to do. When we return our room had not been done. I called mousekeeping and they sent someone right out to do it. They do not change the beds every day just make them. If I want the sheets changed I will remove them from the bed and place them in the tub along with dirty towels, and yes I'm one of those people that like to have a clean towel every day. Over the years of going to Disney I have noticed the decline in the care of the rooms. How dirty the rooms really are. I ALWAYS bring disinfecting wipes and clean our room when we get there and always, give the knobs a wipe when we get back to the room. You never know if mousekeeping use the same rag on the sink knobs or doors that was used on the toilet.

If you are in the room (and do not use the "Do Not Disturb" sign) and do not want your room serviced, they now will ask you to sign to verify they didn't just skip your room. That's why we put the sign out. No early morning knocking. They will check on their final rounds (4 pm) and if it is still on your door they are "supposed" to leave a bag with fresh everything on your door handle.

You and your husband must be way more patient than I am. If the manager had told me that there were places to throw out the trash, with an attitude to boot, I'd probably be dumping my can behind the front desk every time it filled up.

When we stayed at the WL last year Mouse keeping wasn't great, it was never hovered, I spilt some sugar on the floor and it remained there for 4 days till I wiped it up myself. Our bar of soap wasn't changed and most days it sat in the soap bowl full of water and soap scum. But we didn't complain so that's our bad. For the price of a deluxe you should get a better service, as you should at any resort.

Also when we stayed at the Poly in 2010 it was dusty and has cobwebs, nope didn't complain then either!

One Little Spark...
DCL put WDW mousekeeing to shame...

SHAME!

The past two years, I've been very disappointed with the state of both Mousekeeping and General Maintenance at Disney Hotels.

A silly, but obvious example, was when I stayed at POFQ this past trip, and the missing on my lower dresser drawer stayed un-replaced the whole trip, even after I called the front desk and informed them of it.

That may sound petty, and frankly, it is, but when you consider the rack rate of the room, I could have at least been given an excuse as to why it was missing a ...

And I've traveled a lot in my life (from choice hotels in NYC to hourly rent hotels, I am not spoiled, and I can tell the difference)...the past two years, I've had better service at Econolodges.

I don't even bother to tip my Mousekeepers anymore, as they don't offer me anything in return...whereas with DCL I made sure our guy got quite a bit of unreported Cash.

I work at a hotel so this is a great subject for me. Alot of it depends on the individual housekeeper, there are ways to cut corners that you would never know, others are so good at it that they can get there whole day done. It is a very hard job, however since I do work at a hotel I can be very picky and usually check "under" things before I unpack. We had a very slight issue last trip that resolved itself and I made sure to mention the good job they were doing before we left. Much of a housekeepers day has to do with the individual manager and how he is managing his staff and there workload. I better stop I could go on and on!

I think my husband wanted to do what you propose! He saw he was getting nowhere and my husband likes to take the high road. (Because when you go to complain, you're not remembered as the person who lost it and got abusive.) He thanked the guy for his time and walked away. Amazingly, we started getting housekeeping after that, but it still sucked. How do you not check to see if guests need toilet paper?

Even though we had issues with the front desk all week, everyone we encountered was polite and pleasant, except this guy--which only made his poor attitude all the more salient.

When the BW manager called my husband Saturday, he wanted this guy's name and my husband was only happy to oblige.
