Quick GMR Question

It uses a system like at the Universe of Energy - the cars are led along receiving a signal from a wire embedded in the ground. The computer reads it and it tells the car which way to go.

Steering is under the control of the puck system, however, speed, start, and stop functions are the driver's responsibility.

Yep - the GMR is a less complex version of the UoE. Same ideas it a lot of places, but not totally automatic.

Actually, the parking functions are automatic. While starting, speed and any unplanned mid-course stops are controlled by the CM, the cars park themselves at all of the hold points (Load/Unload, hijack scenes, Annubis, Munchkinland and finale theater). The CM just leaves it in drive until the car slows down and stops itself in the proper spot, then shifts it into park. This is because the cars recharge while they're at most (if not all) of the stop points, and the charge plates on the car need to be properly lined up with the charge plates in the floor. (You can tell when the cars are charging by the low hum and slight vibration felt through the benches, though I think this is only noticable in the front half of the front car of each train)

Oh, and there can definitely be accidents with the GMR vehicles. I've heard of one CM who clipped the rear of the tram in front of them as they both pulled from the finale theater back into unload. The front tram wasn't going fast enough leaving the theater, and the other came around the corner at the proper speed and the CM didn't realize it until it was too late.

I've often wondered why the monorails don't have a parking system like GMR does. Let the monorail drivers have most of the control of the trains, but allow the trains to park themselves in the stations (with proper overrides as necessary)

We were on GMR back in December and during the gangster scene, our driver put us in park while the scene was going on, the ganster got on and tried to get us going and we didn't move at all. He tried everything to move and nothing was working. He turned something and it broke off and he was tryingto stay in character and had us laughing so hard, we were stuck fora good 15-20 mins. CM's were coming out of buildings and everything to try and help us. We finally got moving and were able to finish the ride and right before you hit the unloading zone, you could see 2 maintenance men standing in the dark waiting for us to unload. It was a moment we will never forget.
