Questions (Roll-Away Beds, Driving Vs. Bus)

Hi All! :wave:

We are booked at the Pop Century (for 9 Nights in April!!!) and we have two teenage daughters (who WILL NOT sleep in the same bed!) ... we have already requested a roll-away bed for our room. Have any of you TRIED these roll-away beds??? Are they bearable? We are driving down, so we CAN bring a COMFY Air Mattress with us!

Speaking of driving ... I know the buses can be a hassle (during busy times) has anyone ever driven themselves around the parks/resorts? Is the Parking (at the Parks) a hassle? Is it a much longer walk, than where the bus would drop you off? Is Parking (at the Parks) included with the Magic Your Way Package?

If your staying at a resort, then you should be able to park at the parks free. I would recommend taking your car if your going to be at a park during closing. We stayed at Pop Century and left Epcot at closing and it took almost 90 minutes to get on a bus.. When we left MGM at closing it took us a 10 mintue walk/tram to my truck to go back to Pop Century.

If you are just going to a park for the day time, take a bus, but if your going to be there at closing, expect long long long bus lines.

The pop century rooms are pretty small to fit in a ______ or air mattress. You will literaly be stepping on each other. We had 2 adults and a 2 yr old and felt cramped.

Pop is small for 9 nights, maybe consider getting two adjoining rooms. The beds are full size, not queens.

I have been down there with and without a car and I find it easier to drive to the parks. Especially if you are going to park hop it takes a lot less time to go from one park to another with your car. However, MK is one where it might be better to use the bus because it drops you off right by the gate and when you take the tram from the parking lot you still have to take either the monorail or ferry.

On the bus vs. Driving thing. Very frequently people will only think about the time that they are waiting for the bus and ignore the tram ride, the walk to the car etc.When you compare total travel time (from your room to the turnstiles) this is what I have found.

Bus will be quicker to MK
Bus will be slower to DTD
Travel times are about even to Epcot, MGM and AK.

Peak times will always increase your travel time regardless if you drive or take the bus.

Parking at the parks is free if you are staying on site make sure you keep the parking pass from the hotel nn your car dash. We always drive we have the worst luck with waiting a long time for the busses no matter which resort we stay at or what time of year it always just seems easier for us to drive. We do also hop from park to park during the day so it is also much easier to do when you are driving yourself. Just my opinion though.

Are the teens the same ______? If not, I can see the not sleeping together, but same ______, I'd tell them they may just want to bite the bullet. Why? with a ______ in that room, you will be very cramped trying to get around...

The busses...I don't know, I'd rather wait the time at the stop rather than walk from the parking lot/take the tram...in the end I think it's shorter to just ride the bus.

Disney doesn't have roll-away beds at any of the value resorts.
The only Disney resort that will provide them is Riverside.

Personally, if I were paying for a trip to Disney World for my two teenaged daughters ( I have 3 teenaged daughters so I can say this) and they absolutely refused to sleep in the same bed with one another, I would flip a coin to see which one doesn't get to go on the trip.
I bet that would change their attitude. <wink>

I dont believe this is true. I was at All Star Sports in Oct of 2005 and for the one night we had to have two full size beds in both rooms. As we arrived later they only had a king bed left so they gave us a roll away bed free of charge. The next morning we moved up to the Coronado Springs where all was well with the bed situation!!! The Official Scoop on Roll-A-Ways

The size and layout of the rooms at our four Value Resorts does not allow adequate space for a roll-away bed. Furthermore, Reedy Creek Fire Services strongly recommends against any additional bedding due to the reduction in fire access and egress. As a result, in general, roll-a-ways at the Value Resorts are not available. Any request for one unfortunately cannot be honored.

Roll-a-ways are available in VERY LIMITED numbers at some of our Moderate and Deluxe Resorts, however they cannot be guaranteed in advance by the Disney Reservation Center. Please note that the maximum occupancy does not increase with a roll-a-way, and the issue of a roll-a-way can only be approved at the Resort Management's discretion for unique situations (such as 2 teenagers of opposite gender will not share a double bed.) If approved at check-in, the cost of the roll-a-way is $15 per night (plus tax.)

Again, these roll-a-ways are available at select Moderate and Deluxe Resorts only.

Where in the world would you even put a roll away at Pop. The door already hits the bed when you open it. You would probally be better off sleeping in a drawer and calling it a murphey bed....LOL

If you walk with purpose, you are better off driving yourself to the parks including Magic Kingdom unless of course you are staying at a monorail resort. I remember one time during my CP, I needed my jacket and my family was visiting. I went by myself from MK, to Vista Way apartments off property, and back to MK at my rendezvous point in forty-five minutes. The gods were on my side.

I always drive and enjoy the fact that I'm not waiting to get on a bus. Generally I also walk to and from my car in lot.

Getting to Magic Kingdom on a bus I can see as being quicker as that bypasses the ferry and monorail, but then for many the monorail or ferry trip is part of the charm.

As for the room, as others have mentioned either look at two rooms, or a larger room at another resort or if budget does not allow that you can probably get something bigger off-site.

We got a roll away bed at AS Music in 2004

I agree with others that your car will save time to/from DTD. I would never take a car to MK the bus is much closer and you won't have to worry about trams and the monorail.

About the Roll-Away Bed ... I asked for it when I made the reservation (back in October) and they said "No Problem!" I am holding my Confirmation in my hand and it has "Roll-Away Bed" noted (quite a few times!) on it ... WHY, if they're not allowed to have them at the Value Resorts (Fire Code, etc.), would they say "No Problem!" & Note It Here?!?!? Ugh.

My daughters (Twins, 14) would MUCH PREFER to sleep on the floor, or even in the bathtub (no Roll-Away Bed or Air Mattress needed!) than sleep with their Sister! I guess it's an age thing? But, as long as they don't want MY BED, and it doesn't affect MY LIFE, I could care less!

I do apologize that you were mis-informed about the roll-a-way availability. Do keep in mind with approximately 1800 agents booking reservations, some of which may be newly hired, misquotes can and do happen. We at the Disney Reservation Center do need to know a large amount of information about each individual Resort and its policies. With 22 different Resort properties, sometimes the policies may get confused from one to another and the Cast Member may not always verified a policy with our information database before it is quoted.

The Resort Management will always have final say, and may override policy from time to time to provide the best Guest Service while still always providing proper Guest safety.

We are allowed to request roll-a-way beds at select Moderate and Deluxe Resorts, but note that it is only a request, and cannot be guaranteed (due to the very limited number of beds available.) Also note the roll-a-way will not change the maximum room occupancy allowed.

Per Resort Policies, only the following Resorts will allow an advance request for a roll-a-way bed:

Caribbean Beach Resort
Coronado Springs Resort

Beach Club Resort
Boardwalk Inn
Contemporary Resort
Grand Floridian Resort
Polynesian Resort
Yacht Club Resort

The fee is $15 per night paid at the resort if a roll-a-way is available. No added fee is charged at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.

Disney's Port Orleans Resorts do offer a limited number of rooms equipped with a child's size trundle bed. These rooms are all located in the Alligator Bayou section of Riverside. Due to this fact, roll-a-ways are not available at either Riverside or French Quarter.

Disney's Vacation Club Properties are already equipped with maximum allowed bedding in every Guest Villa.
