Questions about Resort

I just want to ask the people on this forum what they think is the best for our trip, because most seems like experts.
Our tip is for my family,(17 poeple) (9 kids between 2-17). What resort would be the best for our family to stay at? All of the kids are very active. Thanks for any help you can give.:)

Well, judging by the amount of room you will need, you've got 2 very convenient possibilities:

Old Key West - Haven't stayed there yet. This September will be my first time, but I do know they have villas that cal sleep up to 12 people. So, space wise, that's a good bet.

For the kids - I think the best bet is the All Stars. Plus, you're going to need a bunch of rooms, and those are the cheapest hotels on property.

Good luck.

we wont be staying at All Stars. cause of a problem my aunt had a wile ago. not gettin into it. We stayed at Carribean Beach last year in Jamaica and that was good but everyone wants to try another hotel. We dont necessarily need to be in 1 room either. Like we had 5 at CBR, i just wanted to see which in the moderate section would be the best for us. Thanks

Hey NF and welcome to the boards. I have a ton of questions about the makeup of your party.
1) what are the ages of the adults if you dont mind? A bigger resort may not appeal to older people who may not want to walk as much
2) how many rooms did you want?
3) How much of a factor is cost?
4) any special needs/wants that may play into the choice of resort? ( Dining options, arcades, recreation available, etc)
Any other thoughts or a "wishlist" may help. I have stayed in 3 oiut of the 4 Value level resorts and all 4 of the Moderates so I have a good viewpoint for those resorts. Hope I can help!! Belle

1.)Adult ages- (33-51) 7 of them (71-74) 2 of them
2.)We had 5 and that would be minimum. 6 would be better but 5 is ok
3.)We can afford all of the moderates at 5 or 6 rooms
4.)Pools are a must (arcade/playground are plusses but not required) Footcourt is also a must.

:animwink: Thanks

Hi NFEAGLE5...and WELCOME!!!

I'm right down the road a bit from you, neighbor!

17 is quite a good size group to travel with, but you guys will have a terriffic Magical Gathering at WDW!!!

Not sure how adventurous the party is, but I bet the kids would LOVE the Fort Wilderness Cabins! Have you looked into those? Lots of people forget about those, but they are nice because they can sleep up to 8 people or so per cabin if needed, and are a pretty good bargain! A couple of the kids may want to even put up a tent and take turns camping out!!

Transportation is great to the MK by boat or to anywhere else by the FW busses. The nice part is, if some of your party does not want to go to the parks, there is PLENTY of stuff to do at FW and the Wilderness Lodge for the day! Fort Wilderness is also the home of the most affordable family buffet and saloon in WDW!

Anywhere else, you would need at least 5 rooms and that adds up fast! Suites are an option at the Deluxe Resorts, but they too cost a bit more!

HAVE FUN! Let us know what you decide!

If you can look into home away from home, that might be great, a grand villa and a one bedroom or a couple studios might fit you well. However if you aren't DVC this can cost a bit. (you can rent points for around 10$ a point.) You can stay at Beach Club Villas, Wilderness lodge and or Boardwalk along with the forementioned OKW (a great idea for a big group.) There also is the soon to be open SSR. Then your group will have washer and dryers, DVD or VCRs, large rooms to hang out in and full kictens. It really makes groups at WDW really nice.

A Grand villa at OKW during dream season (not the most expesnise, but not value) will cost 439 a week, and 45 points each addtions no weekend night. a stuido sleeps (one room) and is 10 points a weeknight and 24 for Fri and sat (the price doubles or more on weekends. 20 for a one bedroom (also sleeps 4 but has 2 rooms, a kicten and washer and dryer.)
BCV, VLW and BW cost sligtly more points, not every one has grand villas.

www.disboards has a place under DVC where you can rent points from members. Beware, doing this will make you want to join DVC.

Mod choices. We have stayed at all the mod s and like POR the very best (AKA Dixie Landings.) It has a great food court, good thememing, nice pool and lots of fun. It is my 1st choice for a mod resort. We like it tons better then CB. CSR also is very nice, great pool, good kiddy area, very beutiful. The food court is not as friendly and convenent.

Have a magical vacation. What time of year are you planning on going? Also condiser a few people getting AP and they reserve the rooms, this may save you hundreds of dollars, (up to 40% per room) but the codes don't come out until a few months before, so you might need to reserve the rooms, then update the ressies when the codes come out. Also if any of the members from your group is from FLA there are speical discounts for them too (both on tickets and rooms.)

thanks. We plan to go possibly in Sept. and definately next May. We are planning to go for 10 days on both trips and will probably spend 7 days in parks and the other 3 in Disney Village or at the resort. Everyone out of the 17 love the parks. We were looking into Riverside but i know with how "active" these kids are that one pool isnt enough for everyone in the hotel. When we were at CBR the pool (Jamaica) was right outside our rooms and the kids loved every minute of it. Especially the fact that it was only them and an old couple that went to the pool. We plan to go up Sept. 8-17 and in May probably the area of 20ish-30ish cause one of the kids has exams. otherwise we will be up there both times.

Wow - Disney Village - Haven't heard that in a while.

Just a word of friendly advice. I LOVE the Disney Marketplace, and go there as much as I can while I'm there. However, I wouldn't plan on spending 3 entire days there. You might find yourself shopping in the same stores a few times over.

Wheeew - Good idea!

I've actually talked to people that have never been, and they out entire days into their itinerary for DownTown Disney.

I wish I could talk my girlfriend into going for 10 days. As it is, I had difficulty talking her into 8 nights. Well, we'll be there for 9 days, so I guess it's ok.

When our family travels to WDW, there's generally about 20 to 25 of us. We've been staying at the Floridian- each individual family has their own room (no suites involved on this one). It seems to work for us- everyone seems to enjoy themselves. The kids have the pools and the arcade, it's a convenient ride to MK, but it is a bit expensive. I would prefer to try other resorts, but the general consensus of the rest of the family appears to be otherwise. I would really like to try some of the villas at Boardwalk, but try to convince all those other family members!! Oh well... guess we're stuck at the GF. ha ha :)

You know, POR is actually 2 resorts, either of which would be really good for your large group for these reasons:

1. Great swimming pools with water slides and

2. Good restaurants.

I've stayed in what is now PO Riverside, back when it was Dixie Landings. My kids loved it.

If I may respond to some suggestions of others, I would say be wary of the Ft. Wilderness Cabins, unless you are really wanting to get away from the feel of being "at Disney" when you get to your room. Those cabins are so secluded and away from everything, that you feel like you are 100 miles away from that Blue Castle and Silver Golf Ball. Plus, only one bathroom to a cabin that sleeps 6 can spell trouble, and I'm told the swimming pools are just very plain. Also, I've stayed at Old Key West and I liked it, but there is no slide (yet) at its pool.

My recommendation would be to try and book the monorail resorts - either the Polynesian or the Contemporary, especially. Young kids are going to prefer the Magic Kingdom, and you will always be a short monorail ride away from a nap or a splash in the pool. I know the Poly has some rooms that can accomodate up to six people.

You can even try the Coronado Springs Resort, because they're pool is awesome. Its themed to a Mayan Temple and is great. Parents can enjoy the pool bar, while the kids can enjoy the pool and slide. I enjoyed it way too much when I stayed their as a guest. And it aint all that far from the foodcourt either.

PORS AKA Dixie Landings, has one large pool at Old Man Island, and a number of "quiet" pools (no life gard on duty) spred out around the resort. POFQ only has one pool. It sounds like if you want a mod PORS is a good choice for you. If you plan on doing 7 days in the park get a AP for the room discounts, that can really help you, you might even be able to stay at Y&BC for an afordable price and the pool is the very best on prop (AKL would be another good choice.) For the amount of rooms you need you might need 2 or 3 adults getting AP and they will need them or need to be present at check in. 3 days just haning at the resort, shoping, putt putt golf or other outings should be fine, you can't beat relaxing times. If you have cars you can go off prop, if not you should be fine.

Make sure you hit at least one water park if the weather is nice.

Hey!!!

You said that you ve stayed in the Caribbean Beach and may stay in a moderate resort-so why not try Port Orleans Riverside?
Travel agents say it is the "deluxe of the moderate resorts", and is near to Downtown Disney. There is a boat which takes guests there (so your older kids can get there). Rates are reasonable, too.The pool is kid-friendly.

Hope thats helpful!
