Question for WDW Cast Members

Hi all!

I was wondering if the cast members at WDW could answer this question for me...

My husband and I love all things Disney and especially love WDW! We often talk about retiring there, and working in the parks. (We are late 20's/early 30's so this would be a long long way off, but we like to dream...) Anyway, my question is...

Does working in the parks kill the magic for you in any way?

Thanks for your input!

Good Question, I have wondered this myself... on top of that, do people at Disney Parks ever get a jerk to work for like in most other jobs (not that I have one atm, but I have in the past), or is everyone overall happy and pleasant?

Makes the magic stronger!

I can only speak for myself, but working at Disney only made me love it even more. I mean you notice a few more imperfections that you probably would not notice if you didn't work there, but just imagine being able to see the happiness that is brought to people everyday. That in itself is worth every minute of being working there.

I wouldn't say it kills the magic but it does change it. The first time I saw Mickey in the utilidors and SHE was carrying her head under her arm, I was a little alarmed.

Same with me, only it was King Louie, and she was dragging his arms behind her...

Anyways, I only worked there for about 2 months, and I haven't returned since, but it was one of the best periods of my life, and whenever I saw the characters at the park working or as a Guest (since I could get in for free, I did that A LOT! :D ) it was always different than seeing them downstairs. I was always kidding around with them and stuff. Again, I only worked there for about 2 months, so maybe there wasn't enough time to "kill the magic". But there were CMs who treated it like any other job and there were (senior) CMs who spoke about their job (which consisted of working with trash) like they were talking about the Holy Book. So I guess it depends if you believe in the magic, or better yet, it's all about "faith, trust and pixie dust".

I would like to remind you all that this is a family forum, open to all ages and some things don´t really need to be pointed out.

Keep the magic alive please.

Thanks. ;)

but then again, I can drag my hands behind me too.. it's just a bit weird for me to do so

I don't know if it "kills the magic" but it does seem to take a lot more patience than I could ever have.
My wife works over at Disneyland and has for the past 2 1/2 years... does she have her days of venting? Yes, but I think my venting is a lot more frequent than her's and I'm in an office all day. I think it does take a certain personality to be able to maintain the magic for an entire shift everyday... unfortunately most people are just working at some places to collect a paycheck and really don't care about bringing a bit of magic to someone's day. Trust me, I came across plenty of those recently on my trip to WDW... they seemed to judge this book by it's purple hair and bullring... little did they know that I'm just like any other guest going through the parks, just a little more modified ;)

Do we really think that there are kids old enough to read who don't know that they are characters? Those who can't read, maybe so, but for everyone else, I mean ... come on, that's just silly, why would they be in a thread titled Question for WDW Cast Members either if they are that little?

I can name at least 3 people in this thread who aren't current CM's

Right, I am saying at the age they can read their autograph books they should know about the Characters already, it's pretty darn obvious (less so with face characters though - - I'll give you them).

That also don't know the truth?

On a side... I'm a wanna be CM... but in here I don't think it matters if we discuss some things like this, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm trying to be careful even now.

sorry if I like to protect character integrity. I guess some CM's just aren't as overzealous as me in keeping the magic in check

Well of course KITT is real. :animwink:

...and I would never alter reality in WDW or even showing pictures or videos to anyone. But for us... I just thought we could discuss hush hush things in more secluded sections. And don't get me wrong... there is a real Mickey, there is a real Santa for that matter. The fact that they were created means they exist, in essence they will always be real and the only true ones because they are.

My five year old niece (just had her first trip to WDW) said that the characters were "people in costumes who can give you a hug".

And her face lit up like magic everytime she saw one!
