I see that Disney will be releasing a code for when my trip will, how do I use it and should I use it? Will it reduce what I am paying? Never tried to apply a code. Please help me undertand this.

Yes, use any code that applies to you (unless you just like to spend money that you don't have to). Be aware that there are some restrictions on most codes. When you call to book your room tell the reservationist that you have a code. There are a limited number of rooms at certain resorts that the code will be applicable. It helps if you can be flexible with resort choice and days.

Yes, use the code. It can save you hundreds of dollars. Go to themouseforless .com and check there for discount codes. I am looking for one for my sister that should be out soon. :)

Mousesavers.com is another website that posts discount codes. They can be for the general public, AP holders only, Disney Visa cardholdlers only, FL residents only, etc. It will state in the post who the code will work for. If the code applies to you, call Disney CRO and ask them to apply it to your reservation. If the date you want and the resort you want are available at the discounted rate, you are all set. If not, you may have to change your date and/or resort to get the discount. Also there are individual-specific codes, which are received through snail mail or email. (I've yet to get one of these :( ) These can only be used by the person they were sent to.
Hope this helps!

Well, here's how it works.

When Disney feels that its overall occupancy rate is down, it will offer a sale. But this sale isn't a total sale all across the board, it's selective.

Whether or note a discount code is offered depends on the target occupancy rate that Disney sets; it sets a different target rate for each type/level of room at each resort. Before the sale starts, if the target rate has already been achieved, then that code can't be used for that type of room at that resort. If the target rate has not yet been achieved, then the code can be used.

If you have an existing full-price reservation and a code comes out, you can check to see if you can use that code. There is absolutely no guarantee that you can use that code. And having that pre-existing reservation gives you absolutely no advantage in being able to use the code or not. In other words, making a reservation specifically in hopes that a code will be announced (and if you would cancel the reservation if no code is announced) makes no sense, since having that reservation doesn't put you in any sort of line ahead of anyone else without an existing reservation.
