Question about upgrading tickets to AP

Looking for a little help here.

We have 8 day park hopper tickets as part of the free dining package and have decided to upgrade to AP when we are there.

We did this in 2015 and got full credit for what we would have paid for a 10 day park hopper so we only owed like 140 a ticket, I believe.

Do they still give you full credit to upgrade? And also- I was going to add memory maker to this trip before we go, but if I upgrade to AP when we get there- would we get it for this trip?
Seems stupid to pay for it if we do.

And also, we were told to do it the day before last trip or we would lose free dining, the CM that turned tix into APs for us told us that was not true that we could have done it day 1. Can anyone confirm that? I will wait until we get there of course, and ask at check in.

I know you will get access to Memory Maker/Photopass instantly when upgrading to an AP. Happened with me in April.

Only thing I'm unsure of is if it will affect the Free Dining Promo. I would call and double check.

We are thinking of doing the same, I would love to know what they tell you, although I was doing the math the other day and I think it will be like $300 to upgrade form our 10 day park hopper to the AP

The APs were lower when we upgraded in 2015, they had not done the tiers yet. I get there Sept. 2nd and will post how it went. I am not going to preorder the memory maker- not paying for it will cut the price of upgrading the tickets a good bit. It did not affect our free dining at all in 2015 so hopefully that will be the same this year.

Just wanted to let you know that we did it day one, it did not effect dining and we immediately had memory maker. It was 700 and some change for both of us. We had 8 day park hoppers.

Thank you for this! We are thinking of doing this in Dec., we'll have 10 day PH w/ free dining, but may book a few more days at the end of our trip. If we do this, it's way cheaper to upgrade the first part of our trip to annual pass than to buy another 3 day ticket. Was wondering if it was possible just today - and then I ran across your post! Where did you go to upgrade? Sounds like it was pretty painless for you, but I've read that when upgrading you should do the math ahead of time to make sure you don't get overcharged, as apparently some CM's get a little confused calculating the difference. Also, were you able to get any of the discounts associated with the AP during your trip? Sorry for all the Q's, and thank you so much in advance!

We went to the ticket booth at DHS. They scanned our bands, took off the difference automatically. The final number was a bit higher than I had figured but I had been looking at Gold price not Platinum. And yes, we got the AP discount immediately. They give you a AP card you are supposed to show along with your ID. It saved us a great deal. Have a great trip.
